3401  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Creating a Custom Name List on: 2007 June 11, 15:50:32
Can't you just save it as its own file (entitled, of course, Live.package) and put it into Downloads which will override any other lists already in existence?

I want it to work for the Maxis neighborhoods, and I think it won't do that when placed in Downloads.
Hmm. I thought it would override for the Maxis crap-hoods. Jordi doesn't mention there being any difference between new names in customs and in defaults, and there really isn't a reason for there to be a difference.
Quote from: Jordi, from the MTS2 posting
Existing townies and NPCs should not be affected, but any new townies or NPCs should now get better names.
I could be bothered to test this in Riverblossom, as I've no desire to play that neighborhood again past jerking over the Corsillo kids (Ramiswami spawn) eventually.
3402  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: If I were to kill all the townies... on: 2007 June 11, 15:13:32
My Riverblossom has four Goopies. They live in a commune. Perhaps I should have Sim Emma come and join them in a love tri-uh-pentagon.

The neighborhood I actually play (Urban Paradise/Downtown Craziness/University Land) is 100% custom, so no Goopiness.
3403  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Creating a Custom Name List on: 2007 June 10, 23:15:36
I just edited live.package (from the downloads folder, courtesy of Jordi) in SimPE. I like most of the names, just needed some U, Z, W, and V's added so that I could complete my Alphabet challenge some time down the line. Adding lines to or changing the entries seems to work, if you are just wanting a few changes. I've already seen a townie spawned with a new name I needed.
3404  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Never-ending flower delivery and some other random crap on: 2007 June 10, 23:05:19
The new shiny is currently being tested by the Fat Gwilly One and will probably be stamped for public release later today.

Excellent! Now we need an "object in use", ABORT, ABORT! hack.

I second that motion. A computer in use hack would be most appreciated. And the 'turn off' computer while it's in use is also frustrating. Both are pet peeves of mine.
Turn on/turn off the stereo loops drive me nuts, too. It's bad enough that I have to listen to that salsa channel 24/7, but do the simmies have to make it skip so much?
3405  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: "Cat" Sims & "Dog" Sims? on: 2007 June 10, 03:36:43
I feel you on the Legacy thing. I never got beyond Gen 5 before and now that I'm doing Alphabet/Apoc/my own spin, I'm finally on Gen 9. If it's not satisfying your play style or "needs", modify it or ditch it.

As for the puppy/kitten thing, I've definitely noticed that fortune sims tend towards those wants and that they prefer one or the other. Kids seem to be a bit more scatterbrained. Hardcoded? Not sure.
3406  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: The Compressorizer! Mass DBPF Compressing Program on: 2007 June 09, 18:53:30
I had wanted something that would let me see what it was and delete the file if need be. This did half, and I couldn't see the real file name to cull them. I still use it for the intended purpose of collection creating, though.
3407  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: The Compressorizer! Mass DBPF Compressing Program on: 2007 June 09, 04:45:42
Thanks. New version reads the files fine, the program just didn't do what I wanted it to. Still useful, though.
3408  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Jun "More Awful Than You": Stupidass Houses! on: 2007 June 09, 04:00:31
There's nothing more fun than messing with "boolProp constrainFloorElevation false" ....unless it's doing it in multicolor.
3409  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: The Compressorizer! Mass DBPF Compressing Program on: 2007 June 09, 01:27:51
Slight issue, may have been mentioned before. The Collection Creator doesn't play nice with this. In fact, when opening folders in CC, I get nothing or one gobbly-gooked named file. Ick. I really need to clean my recolors and decorative objects, too. Any short-term suggestions?
3410  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wall Boundaries on: 2007 June 09, 00:18:10
Holy crap, you've done some DePaul buildings. I have to show my buddies those. I went there for three years. I'm a northsider through-and-through (well, not originally, I'm from Indiana, but I bounce around the northeastern 'hoods).
3411  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wall Boundaries on: 2007 June 08, 20:24:21
Nope, you can't put 2nd-story floor tiles on the last two squares to the edge, even with moveObjects on. Another stinky thing as sometimes I like overhangs on my mod buildings.

And again, I want a piece of this Chi hood, or at least some pics. I keep wanting to build houses just like those in my neighborhood but get sidetracked. When I'm finished with this extended Apocalypse thing, I think there will be zoning laws that only allow lots of the 1x2, 1x3, and 2x1 variety. Maybe the occasional 2x2 for those pesky historic houses like along the Inner Drive and around Old Town/Streeterville and some mid-rises.
3412  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to force a burglary? on: 2007 June 08, 20:17:24
Ignore the wierd one.

I'm concerned with why you are getting these "$Private String:0" options. I've never seen this before. Do you have any non-MATY hacks installed? Specifically ones that might borkify the mailbox?
3413  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: L&P: Bug Deadpool on: 2007 June 08, 16:39:42
1. Babies and toddlers are not allowed to go on vacation, by design. However, when a sim calls to invite another household on vacation with them, the ankle-biters show up and are not interactable. Since no social worker can come to vacation lots, the buggers die. Could be good, could be bad. Could be a new way for the Oversoul to enforce population control.

2. Increased chance of food poisoning on vacation lots = more dead simmies.

3. The firepit has a small chance of igniting sims by design. However, they bork the probability and pretty much every sim that comes within five squares of it ignites.

3415  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wall Boundaries on: 2007 June 07, 18:34:54
Fences can go to the boundary, though. Often I'll add a fence around in my more populated areas to make the homes look back-to-back.

Zazazu, you should definitely get to reading them. They are really long, and take forever to read [I'm a fast reader, and it still took me a month to get through the series, excluding the Hobbit],  but they're some of the best books I've ever laid eyes on. If you've seen the movies, then when you read Return of the King you'll prolly get a little pissed at the movies. At least, I did. The director left out the end of the book, although it was probably from time constraints. I doubt that most major fans would have minded a longer movie anyway...  Grin *points to self*
Well, since you have a pic of Harry's bum as your avatar, I'm assuming you've both seen the HP movies and read the books. Those movies do the same thing with me. Piss me off, but I still love them. They change so many things. Some of them are due to time constraints, but some are just silly....like the source of the gillyweed. Showing the true source would have kept more continuity between the movies. But no.

I picked up Fellowship a couple years ago...I was 22, I think. Got to page 30, couldn't take it. I'll try again in a year or so. Beautifully described world, I just get antsy.
3417  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Big Ball of Fire Visible from Space on: 2007 June 05, 03:13:39
Package all lots you like (after temporarily moving the residents to the bin, of course). Then back those up separately.

since the neighborhood won't load, I think it would be rather difficult to package any of the lots  Roll Eyes
It would be a challenge. The advice was for the future. He's screwed for now, as far as I know.
3418  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do you put your own music into the game? on: 2007 June 05, 03:08:35
My current family plays the salsa channel. ALL THE TIME. It's the only cd they could find after the neighborhood went kablooey. The salsa channel is now the soundtrack to my dreams, and I find myself humming it at work. Between having to listen to that for three generations at this point and being thoroughly sick of the big families caused by no birth control and ACR, I'm thinking Medical and Music have got to be next. Gah.
3419  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: O_O That satellite just sat on my KID! on: 2007 June 05, 03:02:35
I've killed them by hail and by lightning, but those were Rodney's Death Creator deaths due to that family going against the oversoul's wishes. I've done drowning, but it's difficult to set up so that the social worker doesn't take them first. Generally, I let them get to teen before killing them off. Lately no one gets killed since the neighborhood is in rebuilding mode, and due to the fact that medicine hasn't gotten back to the point where birth control is possible and I have ACR, well....four kids 1st gen post-apoc and three so far 2nd gen. Back-to-back.
3420  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Big Ball of Fire Visible from Space on: 2007 June 05, 00:18:38
Package all lots you like (after temporarily moving the residents to the bin, of course). Then back those up separately. I learned the hard way after my uploaded copy of a community lot went bonkers and I didn't have the original neighborhood I'd made it in anymore. Now I save all my lots, with the exception of the phone booth and the cheese wedges, because they are not ones I'd use in other 'hoods and they took all of 5 seconds to build.
3421  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Request, nay Demand! for a new FAQ on: 2007 June 05, 00:13:16
While a large downloads folder by itself won't cause any bugs, it will cause your game to slow down if it's lager than half the RAM available on your system.
Whoa, whoa whoa! This is news to me. How is it that several people here have folders upwards of 13GB (side product of the Compressorizer thread is the inherent folder envy) and still run the game, then? I know they can't have 26 GB of RAM. I have 2 gigs, folder is now around 1.8 again because all compressing and purging did was make me feel free to get more stuff, options all maxed, and my game runs quickly and smoothly, except for a bit of slowdown during snow.
3422  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do you put your own music into the game? on: 2007 June 04, 23:58:13
Similar gripe...the Maxis music still hasn't gotten under my skin, but I hate having music in buy/build mode, since I build a lot of lots. Or just toggle in & out. I've tried unchecking every song in the options panel for buy/build mode tunes, but the dratted thing still plays stuff. Anyway to make this stick, or should I just find a "blank" mp3 and activate it while deactivating everything else?

I have noticed that only clicking one song does keep only that song playing. It just seems that the game doesn't want you in silence.
3423  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Just got OFB, now community lots won't load! on: 2007 June 04, 17:38:13
Hm, I'd suspect the objects, like he said. OFB did something somewhere that borked up my custom content at the time. Specifically, these plastic flowers I had from Windkeeper would hang the lot load screen. I could place them just fine in build mode and play to my heart's content, but reloading the lot was a neverending experience. On one memorable lot, I had about 40 of the things to go through and delete in debug mode.
3424  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help, one of my sims isn't aging on: 2007 June 04, 17:21:15
...or don't touch anyone you don't see on your screen/can't naturally flirt with. IIRC, you can't flirt with the Social Worker or the Repo Man. I know you can't with Grimmie, Crumplebum, hulas, drivers.
3425  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Jun "More Awful Than You": Stupidass Houses! on: 2007 June 04, 16:23:40
Still, I've never gone above 4 stories, but I'm building "Chicago" right now. You might just see the Sears Tower and that has to be larger than the neighborhood deco buildings. (Maybe, I probably don't have the patience.) So if you see it and you KNOW you can't run it, then bypass the lot or use it as deco.
I'd like a piece of that, when you're done, since that's where I'm at. If you are in a sharing mood.
