326  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Borked fences on: 2008 September 15, 02:17:57
Known bork -- been discussed extensively in the AL Borkedness thread a few down from here.

Heh, it's pretty necessary when doing a dorm in the main 'hood. First bill my students got was $1250+.
Use "moveobjects on" to delete the mailbox on dorm lots.  Dorm lots aren't supposed to get bills, but you have to remove the mailbox manually after changing your lot type to a dorm on a user-created lot.  Maxis dorm lots already come sans mailbox.

Um, no, just no. Maxis dorms come with mailboxes, and dorms get bills.  Not sure what Maxis dorm's you've ever played, but if your dormies don't pay their bills, they get things repossed.

I see your first creature looks similar in nature to mine.

Yea, The Horatio (innocuous name for a deadly killer Smiley) kinda ended up looking like alligators on two legs -- not sure if I did that intentionally, but there you go.

I'm redownloading now, in case I got a corrupted copy the first time -- the torrents are running much faster, so it shouldn't take me a week to get it this time.
329  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Lest we forget: SPORE on: 2008 September 14, 14:38:08
I had tons of graphical glitches too, but I updated my graphics drivers and all the problems went away, so I guess that was what caused it. *Shrug* Never had the tribal leader issues though.

Yea, I just saw that ATI has new drivers up, so I'm downloading them now.  My bunch was in early Civ stage when it crashed Friday night, but when I went back in to play them last night, they were back in the middle of Tribal.  And I *know* I saved when they completed tribal before going to Civ, and then saved again right after their first city formed, but the game completely ignored those saves.  So I just said the hell with it, and deleted their planet (that'll show 'em Smiley).  Did get a pic of the tribal leader floating in space first, though.

FYI, there's an article in today's Washington Post about the controversy and user reactions over EAxis' DRM. He mentioned that someone has already made a creature called "Ea's DRM Policy" that has its head stuck firmly up its ass.  You can find it quite easily over on the Spore site, and in case it disappears, here's the .png for your viewing and game-adding-to pleasure:

330  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: complete re-install in progress - Uni thinks it's up to date. Is it? on: 2008 September 14, 14:10:01
Depends on when you acquired Uni -- after a while, the patched version does become the release version once the old CDs are sold out and EAxis makes new ones.

The real question is "Can you use the no-cd AND activate online without having securom installed?"

Yes, because you'll be activating a legitimate serial number if you buy it.
332  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Hack Descriptions on: 2008 September 13, 22:51:49
What about descriptions for hacks in the Test folder.  Are they to be found anywhere at all?

No, because they're still in testing, and if you don't know what they do you shouldn't be using them. Smiley
333  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Lest we forget: SPORE on: 2008 September 13, 14:24:17
I don't know if I got a bad copy, but I've had nothing but problems -- graphic glitches, random crashes, even had my tribal leader constantly lock up and not be able to even feed himself.  Once I couldn't find him, and when I clicked on his avatar he was floating in space above the planet. Tongue

That said, I'm not so much impressed with Sprore.  I was never a fan of SimCities, and while I used to play Age of Empires, I'm over that phase Smiley.  I may give Spore just enough of a try to see if the space stage really does salvage it, but so far, I'm more likely to just delete it from my disk...
334  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes on: 2008 September 13, 14:09:57
Bork; discussed in the AL bork thread in 'Oops! You Broke It!' -- fix there, so I won't repeat it. Smiley
335  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Lest we forget: SPORE on: 2008 September 12, 23:15:57
Just wanted to let everyone know.  According to this online article (don't know how reliable this information is) if you are using a no-cd crack you can install Spore as many times as you want.  This suggests that a crack bypasses the 3 install limitation.

Umm, simple reading here will indicate that using the no-cd.exe means just that, and also means you don't get SecuROM on your system. This is not news.  Tongue
336  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Empty and Cleaned-up Templates. [UPDATED] on: 2008 September 12, 23:02:51
Correct on both counts (AFAIK).
337  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: A few of Argon's private hacks [Updated 8-4-2008] on: 2008 September 12, 22:51:41
Are you sure it wasn't "argon_archfix.package"? That one fixes 2 of the templates to show up on all ages (was only on adult/young adult).

Otherwise I think it might be the test package I made to demonstrate how to add new archetypes, if that's the case it's a set made from my self sim and it isn't needed unless you want random Argon-looking townies (unless you replace the meshes with something else of course).  Tongue That was more of an "oh look this is cool!" hack because someone asked how to do it and no one else had done it before.

Actually, I have both the 'arch' and the 'archfix' package.  Guess I can dump the 'arch' one then. Smiley
338  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 12, 22:41:21
1) take out non-awesome stuff
2) make sure all awesome stuff is updated for AL
3) try game and see if problem remains.
4) if yes, remove everything
5) if no, start putting back other stuff 1/2 at a time, play game, see if problem exists -- repeat as needed, until you track down the problem child.
339  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Apartment Doors and doors in general staying open!! on: 2008 September 12, 22:34:59
Yea, doorjamfix works nice for the lights, but I've just discovered that if there's something else by the doors (i.e., the ductwork from AL), then the doors stay permanently open as well.
340  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Enabling Build/Buy In Apartments on: 2008 September 12, 17:49:03
I don't think you can permanently set them in userstartup.cheat; you can, however, alias them so it's easy to turn them on and off as needed.  Here's how I have it:

#------------------------------------------------------------------
# New Cheat Aliases - AL
#------------------------------------------------------------------

alias ab  "boolProp aptBaseLotSpecificToolsDisabled false" "apartment build on" "apartment build on"
alias ab- "boolProp aptBaseLotSpecificToolsDisabled true" "apartment build off" "apartment build off"

alias ax  "boolProp aptSubLotSpecificToolsDisabled false" "apt external build on" "apt external build on"
alias ax- "boolProp aptSubLotSpecificToolsDisabled true" "apt external build off" "apt external build off"
#------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah, thanks Emma!  I had it in the wrong place -- now I can put it in its proper place and not worry about it.
342  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Lest we forget: SPORE on: 2008 September 11, 22:01:13
Yaaaaa! Come home to find my download finally done!  Now I can find out what the hell this game is all about. Smiley
343  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: A few of Argon's private hacks [Updated 8-4-2008] on: 2008 September 11, 21:51:04
Risking the scary man to ask -- Argon, I found a hack in my downloads called 'argon arch'.  I have no idea what it is, where I got it, or if it's even needed anymore.  What is it?
344  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Apartment Life: Obligatory Hate/Love Topic on: 2008 September 11, 21:46:11
I've never seen anyone bang pots and pans -- is it an autonomous thing, or can they be directed to do it?
345  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Testers Wanted - Realistic Sickness on: 2008 September 11, 17:57:45
Does this work with Apartments?

Unknown -- I don't think anyone has run it through hackdiff to find out.  Baring a definitive statement one way or the other, it's better to be safe and not use it in AL.
346  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: AL -- Pets not installed... but wants me to adopt! on: 2008 September 11, 14:31:06
No, that's normal -- the bowl empties as the parrot eats, and it costs more to refill.  The bug is that even though the parrot is eating, its hunger isn't getting filled properly, so after a period of time it dies of starvation even though it's eating. TJ has never obsoleted his fix for that, so I'd have to say that bug is still there.
347  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My sim's wife is a sekrit furry! on: 2008 September 11, 14:25:02
Yep, my playable streaker wandered outdoors in a snowstorm in her birthday suit and after she became a frozen block a satellite fell on her.  Imagine that!
Really? I thought satellites only fell on cloud/stargazing sims. How can a sim stare at the sky while frozen?
Pretty cool, though, if it really happened that way.

I suspect the satellite was 'encouraged' to fall. Smiley
348  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: AL -- Pets not installed... but wants me to adopt! on: 2008 September 11, 02:48:15
Actually, I believe TwoJeffs said over in his forum that the parrot code was used for the toy dogs.  You need to get his 'Caged Pet Fixes' hack to keep the toy dog from starving to death even though it's constantly eating (the same bug the parrots still have).
349  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 10, 18:21:18
As for the free money, where can I sign up?  Grin  But seriously, the only thing I noticed is that one time a new CAS Sim family had a $30k handout instead of $20k....

Also not a bork -- additional family members get an extra 5k each in AL when you create a family in CAS.
350  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: MASSIVE SECURITY HAZARD in Spore! on: 2008 September 10, 16:15:17
My daughter installed BV from the disc she purchased legally.  The game refused to run while the disc was in her drive, it kept telling her she needed to insert the disc.

That's exactly what happened to me, and why I first got a no-cd.exe. Took a bit to get SecurROM off my system, but I learned my lesson. In my case, it was a 2-year old mid-line Dell machine.
