Perhaps I got the idea from you?  Cheesy I've only gone though the black hair, but I am most pleased with the results, despite the hard work!

And, Kala, I've found that it's easy to sort the files using the Clean Installer since you can quickly look through the texture files with each hair and see what color is really in there, not to mention being able to sort all your downloads by type really quickly...
277  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Clothes All? More Chance Cards? on: 2005 December 31, 18:03:05
When you have as many sims as I have, it helps if they wear the same outfit for a while, as then I can tell who's walking by a lot without having to mess about checking!  And I can't be bothered with all the fuss about changing clothes, so I mainly buy wardrobes for show and use the clothing tool at each age transition.

I pretty much do the same thing - it's causing me some confusion, too, because I have a few kids who look just like their parents and siblings (though not clones, just a big resemblance), so the clothes really help me keep them apart. One of them just turned to elder, and I keep confusing her with her long-dead mother! It's also why I have so many different hairstyles; I don't like repeating them if I don't have to within a generation or so. In addition, I have a color theme for each family depending on the house they were born in, so I actually wish I could "un-buy" transition clothes that are the wrong color so I don't have to scroll past them...
278  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Neighborhood Slowdown on: 2005 December 31, 17:34:51
I timed the game load from the start of the splash screen; I had no inhabited lots in the bin, and between timing tests I added no custom content, nor did I make any other changes.  I finished timing when the main neighbourhood screen loaded, and instead of 8 minutes the game loaded in 4.  I also timed the load several times before and after, and the load times were pretty consistent.

I can't see a good reason for this, either. Huh I did it before installing NL, so perhaps now leaving houses in the bin would make no difference.

I noticed after NL that the Maxis lots were back in the lot bin, too. I don't have too many downloaded lots, and I used up the ones Maxis provided with the game pre-NL, and so my lot bin was empty. Much to my surprise after loading NL, not only were there new Maxis houses with driveways in the bin, but also all the old ones that my Sims had been living in since March! Not sure if I want to duplicate some of them... maybe I'll use them as a base for remodeling, since I get quite annoyed with building new houses. My Sims live in very extended family groups because I don't like having to redecorate new houses for offshoots and those silly young newlywed couples Tongue

I've had that exact thing happen a good many times too, so I will be trying that also. Move Sims into a new house (or out of their old one and back in) and they show up frozen with spinning wants... A pain to visit the house first, yes, but I prefer it to trying to fix all those empty want slots! It happens with the kids too, so I don't think it's totally to do with the extra slots...
280  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: DatGen Help on: 2005 December 31, 07:54:55
I would actually suggest not using HairToner to do it... I used DatGen happily enough for quite some time to categorize my hair, but it was very buggy and it didn't always work properly, and would crash on certain files and refuse to categorize them. Eventually after I encountered a bug where the scalps of my custom skin tones were replaced by hair textures, and I couldn't export any skins from Bodyshop without random hair textures showing up (and couldn't import after removing those), I just gave it up. Now that the program has been abandoned, I wouldn't recommend using it...

I've been going through and categorizing my hair files by hand using SimPe. It's quite easy once you find where everything goes; it's just taken me forever to do because I have put the filename in the text strings so I can see which one is which and remove duplicate/non-recolored toddler/child/teen etc. hair also. This thread here is very helpful:

Having a ton of Sims and wanting to get most of them out of the parents' houses when they're old enough, I tend to end up doing the "college on speed" also. It just took soooo long otherwise, I didn't even want them to meet the dormies, etc, so I put five Sims through normally and gave that up. I basically just let them fulfill all their skilling as needed, then used the adjuster to give them all As and then immediately send them to finals *grin* Using Inge's plant to keep up energy and occasionally letting them eat together, I generally breeze them through it and go on with things. My latest batch, I may let them go a bit slower because few of them had relationships beforehand and so I'm interested to see how they might interact with each other.

This reminds me though, I know that some people in the interests of keeping things synched played the students' family house four days to account for the "four days" in college, but then I read that that just makes the age gap between parents/siblings and student larger, because they don't actually age four days while doing their four "years" in college? Is this true?

And the only reason I myself still use Danny's DMA's is b/c his teleporter thingamagigs have proven very handy. The yellow one is good for changing pregnant sims into their actual clothes, as opposed to those atrocious maternity outfits the game likes to force on us. So far, this is the only tool that's allowed me to do this. The red one is good for changing townie outfits, as post-NL, it's been impossible to change clothes for townies. So as less-awesome as it is, until some more awesome hacker comes along to address these two issues *hint, hint* Wink, I have to do w/ the DMA stuff.

I only have the yellow one and an old copy at that, but I like the caller ID function in particular. That way I can send whoever it's for to the phone if I want them to answer it and avoid everyone dropping everything to rush and answer, then wait for so and so to pick it up, etc... The teleport is good in a pinch too, as is the clothes-changing. I used it to get around the limit on party invites to just teleport in whoever I wanted and then change everyone to formal...
283  Ye Olde Simmes 2 Archives: Dead Creators / Ye Olde Syberspunke Archives / Re: Apologize Fix for Backasswardsness on: 2005 December 28, 22:38:03
That sounds like a welcome addition (correction) to our game.

Any chance apologizing could be made to influence the state of furiousness, as in accelerating the furious state decay or something like that.  That would make a lot of sense that apologizing has an impact on how furious someone is.  At least it does to me Smiley

I was always under the impression that it did do that. I was messing with the furious state while I had a problem with a Sim; I'd accidentally removed his furious token in his memories and he was being jumpy, so I set him as furious with her again using testingcheats. I had him apologize to the one he was furious with several times to attempt to get rid of it faster, and he did end up going from -100/-100 to around 50/20 in quite a short time.

However, I have noticed that some furiousness goes away quicker than others. (One Sim that was part of a romancemod-less threesome after NL "caught" her two lovers with each other, but the furious went away faster with one than with the other), so it's possible that setting it with testingcheats was the "lightly furious" anyway, and so apologizing didn't actually help that much.
284  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Brandi Broke's Third Child?? on: 2005 December 28, 18:36:27
If my reinstall hadn't nuked all my photos (...sigh...) I would have a picture of poor little Valecia... I had made her parents in CAS early on when the game first came out, and since the thumbnail portraits didn't change then, I never noticed that her dad had a normal nose from the front, but it was pretty much completely flat from the side.

I noticed she seemed to have no nose at all in profile when I redid her hair with the mirror as a toddler... hmm, maybe it'll grow out when she gets older. Oooh, it didn't. It was really high, and completely flat - sort of an alien or orc nose, though I don't have any aliens in my game, heh. She had a little brother by then, and he'd gotten his mother's nose, and he looked fine as a kid, but after I'd installed Uni his nose and mouth somehow appeared closer together.

I'd killed the kid and given her a nosejob and was going to avoid letting her have kids, but by now I'm reconsidering. I want more than pretty Sims! So I had her resurrect her brother after she went through college and made it part of a storyline. I kinda wish I could get her old nose back now, but oh well, maybe I'll give her kids anyway. They already live in the "poor little stone cottage in the woods", now there can be noseless creepy Sims running around there too! *horror movie music*
285  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My plumbob is missing on: 2005 December 28, 18:09:09
That is a known issue with the pre-Nightlife Inseminator. I had the same problem after installing Nightlife. I had a toddler trapped in an hourglass, and one of my sims had a houseplant sticking out of his neck. It was freaky deaky, but I noticed that the objects were all coincidentally the same objects spawned from the Insem.

I know, I know...less awesome hack...yadda yadda yadda...

Hmmm. I've only had this happen twice now, and I definitely have a NL version of InSim, unless an older one snuck in somehow... not too likely, but possible, I'll check on that. One of the houses it happened in has been really buggy anyway, ever since I used a hack that called the clothing debug options and then deleted the clothing rack. I'll probably just end up nuking that house and refurnishing it, since it's one of the Maxis prebuilt ones and those have since reappeared in the house bins after NL.

The second one is a little more confusing, but it was a house I stole from my Uni lot and moved to my neighborhood so I wouldn't be surprised if that had something to do with it, too.
286  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Requests? on: 2005 December 27, 19:38:27
I've never seen that want either, even though I have a same-sex married Family Sim, ex-dormie. I also haven't seen that fear of cheating want yet, strangely enough! My Sims seem pretty boring Tongue Before dates I only had one ever want to marry a specific Sim, and she couldn't since he was already married, har. After dates it'll spin up pretty predictably if they're in love on a date and not Romance Sims or something (then they'll spin up the fear), sigh.
287  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Graphics question on: 2005 December 27, 18:38:42
Perhaps it has something to do with the graphics settings of the person who made the custom things? I guess if it was me I'd just go with whichever setting shows the majority of the skins the best way. I played for a long while on really low settings before upgrading my video card so I'm just glad to be able to see cinematics now and see the Sims with fingers and not paws, so I'm not quite sure if that's what the problem is, but it seems like it to me...
288  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My plumbob is missing on: 2005 December 27, 18:29:37
The next time the plumbob goes missing, look closely at the Sim - I've had two lots now where the plumbob goes missing and I've found it's changed shape - on one, to the Grim Reaper's hourglass, on the other the little stool the kids spawn to stand on - and it's seated inside their chests! I've been able to force an error, delete the Sims, and go back into the lot, which fixes it. I'm not sure why it even happens, but...
289  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: agecons.pkg editing? on: 2005 December 27, 18:13:11
And it's still possible to do the 10 kids thing. I think they're assuming that you use elixir of life, but with a 10% chance of twins, on average a pregnancy will result in 1.1 kids. The maximum number of pregnancies a sim can have is 9, if they're pregnant basically constantly and don't use the elixir. So the average number of kids such a sim will have is 9.9, so a given sim has a decent chance of making the 10 kids goal. If you're insane and obsessed.

Much easier for a cheating Family Sim male to achieve this want, that's for sure. *grin* I am kind of regretting letting my favorite first-gen CAS Sim do it, though. Now with generation three half the neighborhood is cousins and I had to kill off a bunch of them after giving him the twenty grandchildren he wanted and the want, which I'd had locked for ages, didn't even fulfill. He died soon after that... *innocent whistle*
290  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Requests? on: 2005 December 27, 03:43:22
On the subject of thought bubbles, I've seen a number of my sims (who are already in committed 3-bolt relationships) with thought bubbles + hearts of sims they've never even met.  Or who are adults and thinking this about teens (I have no hacks that allow romantic relationships between teens and older age groups).  I'm wondering if they're thinking of gossip they've heard about someone else who is attracted to the stranger sim.  I really should check the memories in SimPE next time I see it happening to see if it is about someone else's memory, or whether it's their own.

Could the adoption thought bubbles be referring to a memory they've picked up from other sims in conversation?

I'm not sure about the adoption bubbles because I get them all the time with Family Sims and I've never had anyone adopt ever, but I think it's possible you're getting the gossip with the teens, if you don't have any hacks. I've heard of some Sims getting the lovey bubbles about themselves after someone who was attracted to them gossiped about it, so that may be it. It gets kind of odd, I know that. I've also had a Sim who gets furious with his own picture in the bubble...

I haven't been having too much trouble with kid wants either, except for the full plate of wants to encourage all the different traits (niice, I'm sure gonna let you encourage the poor kid to be sloppy and lazy). It's better than those damn wants to buy shrubs, and only certain personalities seem to get the kid obsession quite so badly.

My current want annoyance is actually with the Woohoo in Bed want rolling up constantly on the part of non-Romance Sims. As part of neighborhood birth control (twin control, grrrr) I usually don't have my Sims Woohoo unless they roll up the want for it, and then they have to beat the Risky Woohoo. Anyway, I have a Knowledge-Popularity couple who rolls up this want every day. I fill it for them - they roll it up again. And again, and again. Maybe now that they're elders it'll slack off...

Same with a house containing two brothers, Family and Popularity. The Family Sim rolls up tons of skill-building Wants, and he's unemployed, and then for variety - Woohoo! May as well change him to Knowledge, damn Sim, but then he'd be less likely to ever want those Family-related things, and he's not indicating which of the five Sims he has two bolts for is his favorite, so- *grumbles incoherently*
292  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Ethiopian Challenge! Because E-Mail Was Too Easy! on: 2005 December 24, 18:45:33
What I've noticed, is that if I don't send my sims teens to college, they get the 'completed freshman year' memory even though they didn't go to college. I never thought much of it though.

I think it's a bug - there's a 'Never Went to College' memory but I too get the 'Completed Freshman Year' when I grew up a teen without the obligatory 'college on speed' sojourn Tongue Fixed it in SimPe but, yeah. Bug to begin with.
293  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Multiple Want Locking... on: 2005 December 24, 17:14:35
I had a Sim turn up with extra want locks after I moved her in downtown via someone else asking her to move in with them. She also had the bug that had her bring along millions of Simoleons when she moved in. I discovered it when I was changing the locks on her wants, she has at least four now. Wish I could get rid of those, too! Why should she have an advantage? *grin*
294  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Headmaster just doesn't want to have fun anymore! on: 2005 December 23, 08:28:54
I've had success with just having someone greet him, immediately take him on the tour while the high-cooking Sim of the house is making dinner, call him to dinner, and then find whichever Sim will give him plusses when they schmooze. The headmaster never gets a chance to do anything else and I haven't had a Sim rejected for private school yet other than thanks to things like saving beforehand forcing an insta-reject. I just bring him into whichever rooms have the highest environment score... little bathrooms can get up there with a painting on the wall... and that's about it.
295  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The nicest thing I just found out today (gee I feel stupid) on: 2005 December 22, 18:22:52
there is a bug that occurs sometimes when the sim is on a different story, and the camera will go to that spot but you still have change stories to the one he/she is actually on.

Spent flipping ages trying to work out what stories you were on about.  Then I realised you meant STOREYS, as in floors/levels.  Do you tell stories about stories, then?  Would you write a book entitled "The Story of the First Story"?  Now don't tell me that ain't confusing, because it is.  However, "The Story of the First Storey", now that not only makes more sense, it also looks a lot better.  Anyone going to argue this one?!  How about the ghost of Noah Webster?  I'd take him on any time.  I just hope the ghost of Shakespeare has found him and dealt with him.

Heh, I think that's just one of those differences between UK and US English. I've always spelled it 'story' but I can see where you're coming from on the confusion...
296  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Can't find neighbor error on: 2005 December 22, 16:11:17
The Sim in question did have an attraction token without one of those 'was attracted to so-and-so' icons afterward (usually has the art career lifetime want icon next to it - but you didn't make those available as lifetime wants, Maxis??). I imagine he was attracted to one of the townies I nuked and I just removed the marker, not the token. I'll edit the post if it doesn't work for some reason, but J.M.'s probably right about the cause, as usual! *grin* Many thanks!
297  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: No Puddle Rage on: 2005 December 22, 08:39:06
How'd you get your sims to clean up a puddle on the grass? I thought they weren't supposed to do that.

I've been able to get them to by using the Macrotastics 'clean' right after they make the puddle. I have the hack that lets male Sims use the bushes whenever they like, and sometimes in poor houses with overloaded single bathrooms it's very useful, but the resulting puddles are annoying. The macro works nicely to make them clean it up, since you can't click on it directly.

299  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Can't find neighbor error on: 2005 December 20, 23:11:31
It sounds like the problem I had with several sims in one of my hoods, I tried cloning replacements, but as fast as I replaced on faulty sim, another one got the bug.  So I cloned the entire hood and put all of them into a custom hood and then started again.

One thing does occur to me, though - has the sim your sim is furious with still got the original furious token?

They may still have the furious reverse - I'm not sure, this is a Romance Sim who's achieved the permaplat from WooHoo with 20 Sims so she has a lot of furious going on *grin* Even with the Romance Mod test in, an elder she must have WooHooed with when she was a teenager and never since (and she's almost an elder herself, now) stormed in and beat the crap out of the Sim she'd just finished WooHooing. So... yeah. I wouldn't be sure which furious token it is, unless I can get everyone un-furious with her. (Time for a lot of apologizing/butt-kissing...)
300  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Can't find neighbor error on: 2005 December 20, 22:14:12
Well, drat. Heh. I suppose if all else fails I can replace him from a backup or something, but I don't know if that will affect the other Sims he used to be furious with. They seem okay. At any rate the furiousness is over now as I played him several days and sent him to college, but the jumping continues. I try to Power Idle him and the icon wouldn't stay in his queue at all...
