276  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Question on: 2009 July 06, 20:28:42
To the best of my knowledge, the EA patch doesn't conflict with AwesomeMod. However a corrupted patch can possibly FUBAR your game with or without AwesomeMod.

I was under the impression that the current AwesomeMod build requires the patch. Or am I wrong?
277  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Social Worker stealing kid for no reason on: 2009 July 06, 05:42:00
Okay, since you didn't mention this in your post: does this problem occur without any other hacks or downloads in your game? Because that's the first thing you want to check before posting here.

Edited because I left out a word.

So, because I posted something and responded to something someone wrote concerning my post I'm suddenly a lurker?

I think you've misunderstood what was being said. At MATY, you want to be a lurker for as long as possible before you actually post anything. This way you get a feel for the environment and people. If you were a lurker, you would be more aware of, say, what "L&P" stands for. The more you lurk, the less likely you are to do or say something that will get you poked.

Ugh. How many stupid posts like this have been made recently? Unless you have unlimited time, skills, and most importantly funds, go away. All of the modders you named actually have jobs and, you know, lives.

Well, with the possible exception of Pescado, but we can't ask all of the talented modders out there to start holing up in bunkers, now can we?
280  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Sims 3 Expansion In My Head on: 2009 July 03, 03:07:06
There are supernatural entities in the game; they're called ghosts.

True, but the ghosts in TS3 are essentially just transparent sims. Heck, they can even have babies that age. If Stephanie Meyer wrote a book about ghosts, these are the ones you would get.
281  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Sims 3 Expansion In My Head on: 2009 July 01, 22:42:02
I wouldn't be surprised if they kill off all supernatural stuff in TS3, period. At least the TS2 base game had aliens.
282  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Rummaging in front of the neighbors -- why don't they care? on: 2009 June 30, 17:44:03
The only time I had a sim get caught while rummaging through their neighbor's trash, the neighbor did react but it took a while. She came out and watched for a bit, went back inside, then came back out again and just watched some more. I finally got the pop-up that so-and-so was "being inappropriate" and might have to leave. That was as far as I got, since my sim then got the information they wanted out of the trash and left.
283  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Installing "anything" has gotten weird on: 2009 June 28, 22:18:12
I actually got this prior to installing the patch, and astonishingly enough it went away after the patch. I have no idea what caused it or what fixed it. (I'm skeptical that EA actually managed to fix very much.) JFade's 3Viewer is a nice little tool, though, I'd recommend just switching to that.
284  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Where can I find a No-CD Crack? on: 2009 June 28, 04:54:42
I just wasn't able to discern it from the mass of things in there that so many people have uploaded.

AwesomeMod is a single download with its own section.
285  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch released. on: 2009 June 27, 15:41:31
You can find all the registry entries in

/Users/<your account>/Library/Preferences/The Sims 3 Preferences/system.reg

Open it with any text editor. There are many other .reg files, but I don't know what exactly they are for.

Okay, here we go:

[Software\\Sims\\The Sims 3] 1246083534
"Country"="US"
"DisplayName"="The Sims 3"
"Install Dir"="C:\\Program Files\\EA Play\\The Sims 3"
"Locale"="en-US"
"SKU"=dword:00000001
"Telemetry"=dword:00000001

Of course, this is after it's been patched, so I'm not sure if anything in it would change from that or not. My SKU seems to be set at 1 also, though I did notice that "Telemetry" is set to 1 on my system where yours said 0. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what that means.
286  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Donwload not included, so not for Pudding Factory: New Hair CC by Peggy on: 2009 June 27, 06:50:57
Heh, maybe just she decided to make it a beta version after all the complaints about crashing. Something alone the lines of, "Oh, you mean this screws up everyone's game? Well, it's just a test version, guys!"

Anyway, isn't this something she would have noticed if she tried it in her own game? Or is it just lower-end computers that are having problems?
287  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch released. on: 2009 June 27, 06:43:32
All right. After much trepidation I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet, and can confirm that I was able to successfully patch the arrr'd Razor version on a mac, using the link provided by Marhis. However, I did previously install the launcher update, so I'm not sure if that affected it or not. (For some reason, prior to this the game refused to load until the launcher was updated, even when not running directly from it.)

I also installed the latest version of AwesomeMod, with no glaringly obvious problems yet. There were no error messages when installing the patch, and (knock on wood) no crashes when loading the game, though I only tried it once. I didn't have much time to test out gameplay, but there is now a more noticeable difference between speeds 2 and 3.

<snip>

In the Mac side I found this as the corresponding entry in the registry:

Quote
[Software\\Sims\\The Sims 3] 1246040350
"Country"="IT"
"DisplayName"="The Sims 3"
"Install Dir"="C:\\Program Files\\EA Play\\The Sims 3"
"Locale"="en-US"
"SKU"=dword:00000001
"Telemetry"=dword:00000000

SKU is apparently set to 1, though, I don't know what this means :/.

I'm willing to check mine to see if there are any differences, but am not sure where to look on a mac.
288  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Donwload not included, so not for Pudding Factory: New Hair CC by Peggy on: 2009 June 26, 20:13:40
I'm not sure whether or not it's Peggy's fault (since the game seems prone to crashes anyway), but the answer so far seems to be overwhelmingly yes, it will crash your game.

I read over at GOS that Aikea Guinea actually tried this out before Peggy and was successful, but chose not to release the hair because like this one, it replaced an EAxis hairstyle. I'm wondering if she (he?) had the same crashing problems. If she didn't, it's possible Peggy just messed something up.
289  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Launcher doesn't work....Halp? on: 2009 June 18, 01:57:34
Yeah, I'm having the same problem here (except I didn't waste my money on the game), but I don't know what program to use either. I tried opening it with the 3viewer, but it didn't really do anything...

You have to open the program first, then open the file you want to install from inside the program. The big button with a 3 on it is the install button. The first time you open it, you have to configure it to your installation, but it'll choose the default installation first.

I use it because it's the only program I've found so far that works on macs, and because the launcher recently started having problems installing things (after weeks of working fine). I'm wondering if installing Riverview screwed it up, though, since that was the only new addition to the game prior to the screwiness.
290  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: IMPORTANT DESIGN POLL on: 2009 June 18, 00:21:33
I'm on a laptop, so I don't have a scrollwheel.  I sometimes use my mouse, but the scrollwheel has been acting up lately (it will scroll, but clicking and holding it does nothing).  For scrolling, I can use the side of the pad, and for clicking and holding the scrollwheel, Sims 3 allows me to hold down both the right and the left mouse buttons.  That doesn't work in all games, though.  So basically, I have the capabilities to use a scrollwheel, but in different forms.  I hope that wouldn't be a problem.

If Awesomemod does end up needing a scrollwheel, give us a little advance notice, so that us strangeos can take care of our system.

As long as your laptop is capable of scrolling, it doesn't sound like it's a problem. See below.

I'm a bit of a freak and use a tablet for everything(this one) it does have a touch ring on it that I use to zoom in and out so I have the functionality without an actual mouse with a wheel.
Then you do, in fact, have a scrolly wheel, regardless of its physical form.
291  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Objects I miss on: 2009 June 15, 21:26:57
Actually, I believe that even the stuff packs were a better deal than the store, if you can believe that. Estimates for everything in the store are somewhere around the $275 range, from what I've read here and at GOS. The stuff packs were about $20 each where I live, and you got 1-2 object sets and a handful of clothes. Even though the store has more stuff, it's definitely NOT almost $300 worth of stuff.

Fake edit: Here we go! Google is my friend.
292  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Objects I miss on: 2009 June 13, 20:20:48
***Thou do not have the right to complain about what has not been present in The Sims 2 base game***

Says who?  TS2 base was 5 years ago, and for many players, many, many dollars ago.  Where's this rule that says we have to accept being given as little as possible in the base game just so they can milk more money out of releasing the same recycled EPs?  How about they start giving us more value in the base game and concentrating on actually delivering new, interesting content for the game they've promised would be such a remarkable evolution from TS2?  I don't feel like spending 20-30 bucks on an EP just to get the same exact shit we got in Nightlife or University, etc.

Actually, I kind of wonder this too. I remember somewhere in another thread, I was complaining about missing the shiftable paintings option from TS2 (which I still do, btw!), to which someone replied that we didn't get that until AL. This seems like incredibly odd reasoning to me-- if we had to wait for the objects or features in TS2, shouldn't they be available sooner in TS3? We already waited 4+ years for it the first time.
293  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Stupid Person needs assistance with Very Easy Video Card question on: 2009 June 13, 00:22:30
Given that I had the same card before updating to a GeForce 7600 (my rig can't handle much more), I can speak from experience. For the base game alone, it might be ok. If you want to play with one or even more expansion packs, the game starts choking, the odd visual artifacts appear.

Not to mention that, if you do decide to add even one expansion pack, you'll probably want to add some memory too. I'm not sure how well 512 mb of RAM would run the base game+ EP(s).
294  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Adoption/Social Service on: 2009 June 12, 23:57:16
From what I have seen, kids that are taken get put into other households. I had twins taken by the social worker and found one living with a neighbor just down the street, I found the other one living in a house near the beach.

Does this happen with Story Progression off as well?
295  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: The Launcher And You: Why You Should Hate It on: 2009 June 12, 17:09:19
Hmm. I'm not sure why, but the end of my user. reg doesn't have the Securom line. It looks like this:

[Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Multimedia\\MIDIMap] 1122403520
"AutoScheme"=dword:00000000
"CurrentInstrument"="#0"
"UseScheme"=dword:00000000

As far as I could tell, the Application Data folder was empty as well. However, I haven't been able to circumvent the launcher yet, so I'm not sure if something nefarious is just being very sneaky.
296  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: The Launcher And You: Why You Should Hate It on: 2009 June 12, 16:24:07
Note about the Mac: in the retail version there's apparently no way to avoid the launcher.
The binaries which launch the game have changed in the final release. In the Reloaded version there were three of them: cider, cider_noui and Sims3-Launcher; in the retail version the *Launcher one is missing.
If, in Reloaded, I launch cider from the terminal, it loads TS3.exe directly; if I do the same in retail, it loads the launcher. Cider_noui, despite its name, seems to not have any difference in the way it operates.

On a side note, in Mac there isn't a specific download manager anywhere, and I suspect it's rolled in the Launcher itself - if you don't apply the official patch the Launcher it is not able to download and install anything, so apparently they included this feature in the patch.

I don't know at the present moment how to manage this crap. I tried renaming TS3.exe in Sims3 launcher etc, but it doesn't seem to work.

Damn. Does Mac version of the launcher involve Securom, then? I haven't been able to get around the launcher yet, either.
297  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The whole thing is becoming a big pain in the $%% on: 2009 June 10, 16:59:10
Over at RYG and Prism we've tested the game for any trace of DRM. This is our statement on the issues:

-Gamers are able to install Riverview via the EADM and then remove the EADM and continue playing with that neighborhood.

So the launcher and the EADM are the same thing, or no? I had assumed they were two different things, but this almost sounds like they are the same. I've used the launcher to install the Riverview available here in the store thread, and I'm trying to figure out if I may have inadvertently installed Securom on my mac. Unfortunately, since there's no registry I'm not able to check for it that way.
298  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The whole thing is becoming a big pain in the $%% on: 2009 June 10, 04:16:38
I know, the anti-sucurom people go bananas, but I've never used my DVD player in this computer to do anything except for to install two games. I don't download and burn cds or dvds or anything of the sort. If I did, I'm sure I'd be as bananas about it as y'all are...in fact, maybe moreso.

Just as a word of warning, Securom doesn't just screw with the burning aspect of your drive, it can screw with the reading aspect of your drive(s) as well. My friend went through two different CD/DVD drives before she finally agreed to let me take Securom off of her computer. She hasn't had any problems since we got it taken off.

Do with that what you will, I suppose.
299  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Motive bars outdated and restrictive? on: 2009 June 08, 19:01:08
I use a combination of ignoring the needs bars and cheating.  Maybe I'm just averse to change, but the moodlets seem pretty "meh" to me. I like the wants/fears set up in TS2, it seems truer to life. Plus, it makes it easier to have Sims sink into a deep depression.
300  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Heartbreaker LTW question on: 2009 June 05, 21:29:09
By the way, I have to say I absolutely LOVE that there is an interaction for "romantic interest" called "Let's just be friends."  It doesn't even have a huge negative effect on the relationship (after all, you aren't even going steady!).  In the Sims 2, falling out of love with somebody was irritatingly difficult.  People got jealous over the stupidest crap, and the only way to stop them from getting jealous was to get rid of the love, which was usually only possible by doing something to make them jealous =P  Basically, falling in love ruined relationships in Sims 2.  It was very hard to go back to being friends.

How did you get this option to pop up? I've got a Sim who's recently married and I'd like to kill off her "romantic interest" relationship with her coworker, but have never seen this come up.
