I've been running into this problem as well. However, deleting the caches and thumbnails, and removing/replacing the Packages folder seems to make it work again temporarily, although it sometimes takes multiple tries. I'm also running the game on Leopard, and never encountered this until the 1.3 patch. It doesn't appear to be triggered by anything specific, since the downloads will work one day and then stop working the next.

Can't be an issue with the no-cd crack since I only use AM.
Strangely enough, I finally got the game to bypass the launcher without issue. Since random voodoo sometimes seems to prove effective on this game, I cleared all the caches, deleted the thumbnails, and even tried removing and replacing the Packages folder. The mysterious freeze disappeared entirely, and I didn't notice any unusual graphics glitches during the few minutes of test gameplay. Prior to this, I tried it about three different times and couldn't get it to work so I have no idea why any of this would have helped, but apparently something did.

Unfortunately, I couldn't even get far enough to check out the graphics when I tried this out. The loading screen keeps freezing on me. I wandered away from the computer for awhile to give it some time, but it sat with the green loading bar frozen and none of the words flashing across the bottom for probably 3-4 minutes. I finally switched out the old .plist for the edited one to see if it was something with my game, but that one loaded up in no time. This was with the most recent patch, 1.4.
I'd love to find a way to get around the damn launcher, though. Ugh.

If your a member of MTS just use your MTS sign in to log into Sexy Sims 2.
This doesn't necessarily work, though. In order for your MTS account to work there, you need to have been a member back when the adults downloads section branched off into SS2 (that was what, three years ago? More? I can't remember). Otherwise I'm fairly certain you have to open a second account.

Well, I think I've officially fucked my game up with this patch. Are any other mac users having success with this thing? I tried uninstalling/reinstalling, but the freezing and lag is still unbearable, and on top of that the most expensive desk is one giant black mess. I tried reinstalling and not updating to the patch, but the game won't run without the first mac patch, which apparently has been rolled into this most recent one since I can't find it anywhere else.
I'd really like to smack whatever idiot(s) at EA did this.

Whatever else the damn patch does it also caused the mac to kernel panic, crash and need a reboot.
I've not experienced any crashing on my macbook (yet), but what is your gameplay like? After installing the patch onto my mac, the game lags and freezes like crazy, even with all the settings changed to low. It now freezes for 2-3 seconds everytime I scroll or zoom, and I'm wondering if it has something to do with the supposed "fix" for the shadows listed in the description.

Just a side note-- in addition to getting a laptop cooler, download smcFanControl if you haven't already. I use it on my macbook, and it helps you control the temperature and fan speed of your mac.
I have a Dell 1720 laptop running Windows Vista and from what I can see, SMC Fan Control is only for MAC's. I have downloaded another program and am trying it. It is called Speed Fan. We'll see how that works. Thanks for the information! AFAIK, SMC is a mac-only application-- I was responding to OpiumGirl since she referenced her macbook. However, it's very handy, so if there is a windows-equivalent it's definitely a good idea to give it a shot.

Cool, what have you done to curb the heat problems? I'm just curious. I don't own a laptop for gaming, just a MacBook for doing everyday stuff so I rarely push it enough to overheat it. Just interested in what steps you took to cool it down since it seemed to "resolve" your issue to the best of your knowledge.

I have no idea WTF she is even talking about, but this part was pretty amusing to me:
Fifthly, PeggyZone reserves the rights to take any actions that we think necessary and appropriate to the extent permitted by law in response to insult, libel and attack committed by anyone.
What exactly is she planning to do, sue the internet?

You might not consider it spyware, but users who have tried it may not agree. I had read Pescado's threat at MATY and decided to run my Panda Security before and after I installed the tool, besides I took away my internet connection to prevent the program from homming phone. Panda found nothing before installation of the tool, however, as soon as it was installed - two suspicious files aka spyware appeared in the scan.
Regardless of what it's called, a program that needlessly requires to be connected to the internet and installs dubious files onto my system is too close to the "spyware" definition for me.

I like the way they try to dress annoyances and bugs up as features. It gives Sims interesting jobs, moves them around based on relationships (or randomly sometimes to stir things up), make them gain weight or become thinner. Personally, I like the fact that they use the word "sometimes" to mean "almost all the time". When I was just using a vanilla game, there usually did not appear to be any rhyme or reason to the way my sims moved around, or who they moved in with.

So I'm still confused. What is this spyware attempting to do?
From the GOS thread: -On installation the program adds itself to the startup registry without asking permission. This means by default it will try to launch every time Windows does. (I didn't screencap this 'alert') -When launching the program, the "Attempts to communicate with the internet" alert popped up. This is so the program can show you the latest subscriber downloads available on TSR, as well as offer you 30% off a subscription. This connection between the workshop and TSR is always open, the program launches with Windows if you remember.Screencap of tool full of ads: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj211/ShanOw0/tsrtool.jpg- When using the various 'features' or saving a file using the tool, the program library injection alert popped up. Does anybody know if they're using spyware in their downloads as well? Edited because I can't fucking type. *smacks forehead*

From what I've read, TS3 has made the most money yet out of the Sims franchise. So really, if they're going to make billions of dollars from a half-formed product, why would EA want to spend more time and money making something better? For all the people that recognize the flaws and glitches in the game, there are more people out there willing to thrown down $50 to play it for a few weeks and then forget about it.

AFAIK, the only way to get the first patch is to allow the launcher to connect the internet and click "check for updates". I tried this using the razor version and have not yet (knock on wood) encountered any problems. I believe you need this patch in order to install the later patch, since I was able to install the second patch without any problems.

Currently playing both. TS3 is only playable thanks to the AwesomeMod, and the CC for TS2 far exceeds that available for TS3. Not to mention that my Sims look so much better. I'm sure that, with time, I will end up returning to TS2 completely.
