226  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: No longer in love but still have sorta-romantic wants? on: 2006 January 17, 18:33:05
Even romance sims suddenly decide they want to tie the knot during dates.

Funny, my Romance Sims don't want to get married on dates - they still have it listed as fears.  I don't think I'd even make them get married if they were all not afraid of it, as I don't like to make my Sims cheat on each other.  Now, if only they didn't fall in love with each other all over the place  Roll Eyes, it'd be a lot easier to play them how they are intended.

I had a Fortune Sim (one of my favorite Sims right now) who kept spinning the want to get engaged to his girlfriend after having his first kiss with her at Uni. After graduating he spun the want to get married to her, have a wedding party, and also get married to a rich Sim, while fearing being left at the altar. After they were married he rolled up the want for a baby. Needless to say, he got all his wishes Tongue

I've NEVER seen that before in hundreds of Sims, not even Family Sims - the closest I've ever gotten is one particular Family Sim who wanted to get engaged to a lover who was already married. All the rest were generic marriage wants, except on dates - I've come to expect them to want to get married on a date if they're already in love :\
227  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: 8 playable Sims, 1 Dorm on: 2006 January 17, 17:03:01
I just finished the freshman year on "normal" with my dorm of twelve (well, now thirteen *cough* that risky woohoo really IS - one try?!). Anyway, considering I haven't played the normal way since Uni came out, it's surprisingly fun. Just by letting them go to class and having them study/do papers only when they want to, which isn't ever in the case of the three Romance Sims, they've managed to achieve grades running from C to A+, which I love because otherwise everyone gets a 4.0, and as a college dropout I can say I -wish- it was that easy! They only have one class!

Otherwise, I've just been letting them go nuts with the socializing... almost all the previous relationships between them have been broken up now, and the Romance Sims especially have been causing some havoc. I have no idea what made one of them furious at another on the first day, too, since they have no romance involvement at all. I'll probably speed it up near the end, but for right now I'm enjoying it.
228  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: 8 playable Sims, 1 Dorm on: 2006 January 16, 22:37:13
I just stuck twelve of them in a dorm last night... I usually send them by age a chunk at a time but I had fun with the last batch and didn't put them through on total speed to let them get to know each other, so I'll probably do that for a while until I get tired of it. Then it's complete the necessary skills, random grade, "finals in two hours", and out they go! *grin*
229  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Major imbalance of boys vs girls being born on: 2006 January 14, 21:24:33
Yeah, the female definitely has to be the playable character. Though I've gotten around this (to make it even) and used the mind-control mirror to have the female visitor selectable while woohooing, so that there's an equal chance... I have risky woohoo going but I don't know if it still applies when the female is the visitor.

But as for the original topic... lots of people seem to have these runs of one sex or the other, apparently because the Maxis randomizer doesn't randomize completely randomly. Mine's done that several times, though not quite to that extent. The SimPeing sex-change seems to work quite nicely, though.
230  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Crumplebottom Fix on: 2006 January 14, 18:19:28
A friend of mine has had Sims produce children by Santa and Mrs. Crumplebottom in-game using I think the autonomous bed. No word yet on how they turn out Tongue

Anyway, awesome as usual, heh. It always bugged me how I'd be having a male Sim sponge-bathing downtown in the male-only bathroom and she'd burst in to lecture them. Reminds me of how in Sims1 I'd have a hotel downtown and she'd take a bath and proceed to wander around naked thenceforth in a medium-skinned male body, clutching her purse primly in front of her...

232  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maxis wants pregnant sims to waste away? on: 2006 January 14, 17:52:26
I suppose I could, but I liked the idea of potential miscarriages, I just thought the reaction was out of proportion to how they usually react to things like death and relationship breakups.  I think the furious state is a bit OTT with the length of time it lasts too.

Heh, same with me - I like the possibility but the reaction, while appropriate, seems kinda disproportionate when you consider how the death of a beloved parent or child merits for some an aspiration hit and, oh, a day of crying randomly in between the usual jokes and chatting and smustling? I had a Sim in permaplat who I tested the miscarriage on (she was stuck with a pregnant body, and a real pregnancy sorted that out, but since she'd just had twins I didn't really want her to have any more kids.) She wouldn't use skill-building items for two or three days and kept waking up with nightmares... hmm, actually if the reaction to deaths was more like that, I'd personally like it too, heh. More realistic.

I'm keeping it in, though, since it creates a challenge, and the chance for more random things (especially bad things) occuring appeals to me. Tongue Another Sim had two close calls, and it definitely made me pay more attention to what was going on there instead of coasting through the time waiting to see what the kid came out looking like.
233  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A Hack request if this is possible? on: 2006 January 14, 17:38:11
The Romance mod squelches the screaming slapping fits when a sim interacts with their rightful spouse. As for the flirt thing, there's only one "jealousy enabled" bit, and attempting to change that would require an extensive overhaul of the entire jealousy thing.

Ahh... so with the romancemod, you can no longer make an extramarital lover jealous by doing romantic interactions with a sims correct fiance(e) or spouse? Was that always a feature? I don't remember from before NL, and I barely had a chance to really play long term with it (I never really had any married couples with extramarital affairs to test it out).

Ste

I believe that was always a feature - and normally it's just what I'm looking for, heh! But in this particular case I don't want the wife to be unfaithful and I want the 'other man' to get jealous since it would be realistic... taking it out briefly and letting the Traditional Maxis Jealousy swoop down will do it. *grin* After the rampant cheating I had going on in the early days of my game, I've swung back to letting them date whoever before marriage but most of them staying faithful afterward ('cept Romance Sims of course - and the two I had married have already ruined it with autonomous uncontrolled stuff downtown). I don't want her to randomly be making out with Former Lover Boy since he won't get jealous over her being married now!
234  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Squiggly Lines of Doom!! on: 2006 January 13, 23:17:36
Swiftgold, I wish, oh how I wish, you'd been around when I had my problems with poor Liz!  That's what caused her to jump!  Now, if I can find a back-up from BEFORE i swapped her with and unsatisfactory clone of herself, maybe I can get her working again!!!!!

Hope you can find one... I've had to do some clone swapping myself, once when my Sim changed her (Maxis) skin from S1 to S3 randomly and I couldn't fix it. Tried to play on but it just wasn't her, so I made up the clone, heh. Now I have a way to actually fix that kinda thing, but I don't have any old backups anymore. Guess that's life!  :\
235  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Squiggly Lines of Doom!! on: 2006 January 13, 23:02:29
I wouldn't touch any tokens myself, heh, after accidentally deleting half an attraction marker which made my Sim jump and be unable to use the toilet/shower. Fixed by removing the other half, but I generally leave that stuff.

I've gone through the memories many times but I just saw this squiggly bubble, but when my Sim was looking out the window... I wonder what it was about then, since they usually just "see" random objects outside...
236  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: HACK REQUEST: more want variety for teens and uni students on: 2006 January 13, 22:50:07
The "wanting everyone else to tag their freelader asses along" effect is clamped down a bit by some of the anti-obsession hacks, but the actual Go To College want itself defies any attempt to cap it. Thus the "limping along on 3 want slots" effect persists. College is effectively the new teen, since the teen stage is now so badly crippled that you just end it quickly. Which is just as well, since it's extremel overlong otherwise.

I'm very glad for the anti-obsession hacks... too bad the go to college one won't be squished. It would make so much more sense if it came up during the middle of the teen age period! They made it hugely long anyway, so at least they could 'let' us play as teens for a while before throwing the college want at us. I usually turn the testingcheats on and shift-click fulfil the go to college want anyway, because, yeah. It rolls up the moment they're teens, the other two slots usually end up being sneak out with Sim and go out with Same Sim and then probably something else I don't want to fulfil. So, yeah. Since they're usually gonna go anyway, they get the points for going early and I don't have to deal with the want.
237  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OK, I'll try it here: TV Commercials on: 2006 January 12, 22:35:28
I wondered the same thing! I miss those commercials! I thought installing Uni was what messed it up, but if it's still like that in the unpatched original...

I'd love to have them back again, but it is strange how they just disappeared.
238  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: NOW what did I do wrong? on: 2006 January 12, 21:25:49
Might want to try deleting the thumbnails? Then the game ought to regnerate them properly. When I was having my 'hair textures replacing the scalp skin' problem, I'd regnerated thumbnails and it was showing the 'bald' skin in the preview with the hair texture screwup. So, it regnerates it from what exists...
239  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Categorizing all my downloaded hair... Any advice on how to keep my sanity? on: 2006 January 12, 21:10:41
This thread explained it for me, and so far I've had no problems whatsoever categorizing away:

I also agree that engagement/marriage/etc. shouldn't necessarily unset hearts, since getting engaged/married to someone doesn't necessarily mean that you fall out of love with someone else. And at least that leaves the game open up to affairs and such for story purposes and "romance" sims. But at least, if you use the "Break Up" option, you are officially declaring in a sense, that you are no longer in "love" with that sim. Too bad there isn't an adult version of "Go Steady," so that sims could actually define "monogamous" adult relationsihps, and also have an option to "Break Up" as well. I suppose instead, adults that are not married/engaged, but in love/crush, can have the "Break Up" option just unset the hearts, at least from the side of the breakupper and not necessarily on the breakuppee.

Ste

With InTeen, there is - in fact I think unless you have the flavor pak installed you have to have your adult Sims go steady too before you can propose-engagement. You can also break up at any time, but I think it's only if you've had them go steady/get engaged/married first... not sure.
241  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Recategorising hair with SimPE on: 2006 January 12, 18:02:51
It's working!  I'm so excited.  LOL.  What a dweeb I am.  Anyway, my next question is, if the name doesn't say what color it is, and the picture that pops up in clean installer is indecipherable, how can you tell which color it will show in the game?  For instance, I have some backwards hats.  The hats are different colors, but so is the hair that peeks under the hat.  But in cleaninstaller, the hair under the hat looks gray.  I know it's not gray, but I don't know how to tell what it really is.  Also, sometimes the pic in clean installer looks blonde, but the color name says red.  Is the picture always the right color in clean installer?
C

You can click next on the preview in CI to see all the texture files in the package. When I was sorting my collection I put all the ones that weren't all one color plus elder in a seperate folder. Oftentimes, especially when there's a new mesh that's only for adult, the child/teen hair won't be recolored to even match the adult hair, so you'll find all sorts of colors in there and even with the name in the file it's not exactly trustable. I have quite a few filenames in my red hair folder that say blonde or brown...
242  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Remember that Sims2 preview disc? on: 2006 January 12, 17:52:33
Well, the romance mod won't change the reactions of any but Romance sims!  It's just unfortunate the way the game is designed that it's usually the innocent party that suffers!

Ahh, this was pre-romance-mod-update, though, heh. I'm tempted to see what happens if I do the same thing again with some different Sims, though. Maybe non-related this time, since relatives tend to get furious on someone else's behalf now. Except when they're furious at them. *grin*
243  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Remember that Sims2 preview disc? on: 2006 January 12, 17:37:26
But it still leaves a lot to chance and the Romance Sim's particular star-sign/personality!  Pisces and Aries still get incredibly jealous, Leos usually just cheer!

Heh, both the nephew and uncle are Knowledge Sims. The Romance Sim's only role was to be whistled at while walking by... and now the uncle hates her! Stupid Sims.
244  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A Hack request if this is possible? on: 2006 January 12, 17:31:45
The romance mod as found in the director's cut is updated for NL - thankfully! However, I really agree with this - something is preventing one of my Sims' old loves from getting jealous when she kisses her husband in front of him, and since she's Family and he's Popularity and not Romance or anything, that's something that should happen. Guess I have to try to remember to take the mods out briefly...
245  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Categorizing all my downloaded hair... Any advice on how to keep my sanity? on: 2006 January 12, 17:22:19
It takes some extra work, but I've found this to be very useful, as suggested in another thread. In SimPe paste the name of the package into the 'Text List' section of the package itself; it usually has the recolorer's name in it. If there isn't a text list you can create a string - and it's useful in that if there isn't a text list section in the package at all, the package likely isn't even working in-game anyway. It's pretty easy when you just copy-paste the file name from the Open dialog in SimPe, when you go to open the file.

When you do this, you can then mouseover the hair in Bodyshop or CAS and see exactly what file it is, so when you switch between the ages you can see that it's blonde for the kids' hair and then suddenly jumps to black in the custom mesh, etc...

(Thanks to whoever suggested this in a previous thread)
246  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Remember that Sims2 preview disc? on: 2006 January 12, 17:17:10
Not only that, but it's odd that any Romance sim who "cheats" - ie they only have to wolf whistle another sim - and they get the "Had an Affair with" memory!  Well, I think having an affair involves a little more than wishful thinking!  How old are the people who write this program - 13? when "Have a date with" means they spend two minutes dancing together at the school disco?

I had a teen downtown wolf whistle at a Romance Sim just to set his preference and was thusly "caught cheating" by his uncle, who had a crush on her. -100/-100 and he wanted to see his nephew's ghost over a whistle - and he's a Sim who's woohooed every Romance Sim I have! I fixed the memories, but left the relationship bad and explained it as rivalry between two heirs to the Neighborhood Tyrant's dynasty (which they are). I was so glad when the romancemod was updated for NL...
247  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Recategorising hair with SimPE on: 2006 January 12, 16:57:38
Oops I've read the tutorial and I haven't been doing it the way it's shown.  I've only been deleting the textures and the property set reference.  It seemed to work in any case, as the Maxis hairstyle was gone for the ages I didn't want but I wonder if that will cause a problem.

That's what I did, and it seems to work okay for me. It appears to mess up things if you're trying to clone and recolor those hairstyles, but since I'm not, I'm fine with it.
248  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Remember that Sims2 preview disc? on: 2006 January 11, 22:42:47
Gah, I haven't seen the fear of getting caught cheating either. And, especially in the early days of my 'hood, they sure should have! >< Perhaps I'll roll this up now that I have some generations of Sims with more extreme/varied personalities than the ones I started out with in CAS...
249  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Score Extra Date Points with Sims' Favorite Foods on: 2006 January 11, 21:04:14
Heh, yeah. I used to have some custom food but I took it out for some reason after NL... so I'm pretty sick of their options and like to give them the new stuff in restauraunts, even if they don't 'want' it.
250  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Downtown v. hood on: 2006 January 11, 20:36:13
Well, the random calls you get for outings and the like always want you to go downtown, but I suppose you can also pick regular community lots when you choose where to go (I never do because mine are the boring comm. lots stolen from Pleasantview - I hate making comm. lots) so it probably doesn't matter there.
