201  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question about vampires on: 2007 July 10, 17:14:03
I've heard that vampires don't die of old age, so do they age at all? Will a Sim vamped as a teen remain a teen, or keep aging normally but not actually die of old age? Do vamps turn elder at all? Can elders be vamped? IIRC, children can't be vamped.

These questions may be behind the times, but I'm considering playing vamps for the first time. I've experimented with them in the past in old neighborhoods (sans awesome hacks), but haven't really played them since they appeared somewhat boring when I first messed with them. I remember having a vamp with a new baby and having problems caring for it during the day. I just can't remember whether she was vamped before, during, or after pregnancy.

Vamps are fertile but zombies aren't. Is that correct?
202  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sims Keep Stealing my Dog's Food! on: 2007 July 10, 06:58:03
It does not appear that any obvious method exists in-game to feed animals people-food. I may consider implementing this as a macro-feature to automatically whip a plate out of inventory and drop it in front of the dog.

This would be fantastic! Right now my Sims only fill pet bowls if they are on power idle, which I rarely use. Clicking on the macro box to feed pets would be so much easier than trying to click on those tiny bowls. I'd probably train them all on people food just to avoid trying to find the pet bowls.

With the toddlers eating pet food, I've had some toddlers vomit and others not. Since I don't have a lot of pets in the game, I haven't had enough tests to figure out whether it is from overeating or whether it is from personality type. I'll put some food in the pet-less houses just for the tots and try to see if I can find a common denominator. I does up their hunger, and unless they have the throw-up fear, it is harmless to the toddlers as far as I can tell. I've also had some toddlers never touch a pet bowl, even when it is in the house available to them. I'll try to see if there is something those tots have in common too.
203  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Sims Keep Stealing my Dog's Food! on: 2007 July 05, 09:17:09
I needed a junk yard dog. So I got an aggressive, dirty dog from the pound. I placed her house outside near the mailbox to chase the walk-bys. I taught her to be filthy and hostile (it didn't take much training for that). I figured to complete the picture, I would train the dog to eat table scraps instead of dog food. No problem. She won't even touch food placed in a dog bowl.

Every time I make a meal for the family, I place one of the plates outside near the doghouse so that she can eat. But Sims keep stealing her food. There will be plates of fresh food on the table, with the serving platter on the counter, yet visitors insist on taking the food from the dog. They even took it from the dog when it was trying to eat it!

Not only is this disgusting, because neat as well as slovenly Sims do it, but I keep getting warnings about my dog starving even though I have started placing several plates on the ground for her.

I know that I can reteach her to eat pet food, but this kind of defeats the whole purpose. I know I can refuse visitors, but I enjoy watching them run around the lot trying to avoid the dog.

Is the whole 'Pets eat Sim food' an entire waste of time? I already have no desire to train another pet like this because I have to go into buy mode each time just to place the plate on the ground. I noticed that cats will get on the counter to eat Sim food, but so far the dog just eats out of the trash can or eats the flowers if it can't get to Sim food.

Am I missing something obvious in the feeding of my pet or is this another one of those great Maxis ideas that is impossible to implement because of poor planning? Is there a way to feed this dog without going into buy mode each time? And is there a way to keep Sims from stealing her food?

I've been using 'noDropServingPlatter' by Squinge which forces Sims to place the serving platter on the counter instead of the floor if you cancel the 'serve' action before it is completed. I could remove that, but then Sims would drop the serving platter on the floor instead of an individual plate, which again doesn't seem to help the situation much.

Has anyone found a successful way of feeding dogs that are trained on Sim food?
204  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I hate birds. And Inventories. on: 2007 July 04, 17:40:47
I'm also still experiencing the bed problem; I moved a family recently and once I'd placed the furniture from inventory, at least one of the beds started causing constant error messages.  When I popped out of the game to look at the logs, it was the same Test Interaction - Is Bed Being Jumped On? that has previously caused me problems.  I'm not sure if it was all of the beds or not; once I realized what the problem was I immediately replaced them all.

I have the same intermittent problem with 'Test Interaction - Is Bed Being Jumped On?', but I have never had the beds in my inventory, nor can I find a way to get the error to be consistent.

If you're brave...

http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=228385  it's called the inventory transfer vase... i've got it, just haven't had a chance to use it yet....

I use it all the time. It hasn't caused any problems at all and works as advertised.
206  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Kewian's entry on: 2007 July 04, 00:05:05
I've been using macro>garden.

These are my first gardening experiences and your detailed explanation helped me to understand. Some stuff was being done because the gardener has less than a gold badge. The overwatering was occuring mostly when 'harvest' was available on the plant, but I hadn't harvested yet because I was hoping to raise its health somehow first. I didn't know whether to harvest as soon as it is available, or try to improve the situation (if possible). No one has harvested with macro>garden so I assume that is left for us to do manually (unless harvesting is restricted to those with better badges).

207  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Kewian's entry on: 2007 July 03, 18:30:58
Your placement of sprinklers in the greenhouse looks like it was performed by your retarded kid, as there's maybe 50% more sprinklers than is needed to achieve full coverage, yet simultaneously fails to achieve complete coverage of the garden plots.

Could you explain to us retarded kids how to place sprinklers correctly? I notice that when I go to place the sprinkler, it will use up a certain number of squares, depending on its size. But the water doesn't appear to actually hit all the squares. So are we supposed to go by the placement grid, or where the water appears to hit?

Also, I never see the sprinkler water after the sprinklers are placed. It only shows up when I am in buy or build mode. Is that normal? I wonder because I notice that my Sims seem to water the plants that are covered by sprinklers as much as the ones that don't have a sprinkler. (I've been doing some of both to observe the differnces). And what does it mean when a plant appears to be dripping? At first I thought it meant overwatering, but I've seen Sims continue to water these plants as much as the non-dripping ones.

208  Ye Olde Simmes 2 Archives: Dead Creators / Ye Olde Syberspunke Archives / Re: Testers Wanted: Teen Enabled Adult Wants and Woohoo Wants (Updated 7/1/2007) on: 2007 July 02, 20:27:02
I don't really want to stunt their autonomy, I just wish they'd be less cheaty when I have them already coupled.  But they're all determined to be slutty sluts! lol. Cheesy

The latest test version of ACR with the plugin 'Maxis Cheating Fix' has helped keep the coupled Sims behaving as they should. Sims still have a chance of cheating, based on outgoingness and aspiration Example; a married, family Sim cheats less than an outgoing Romance Sim who is merely going steady.

And those of us who have been using ACR with Inteen were told the teen/adult attraction fix was included in Inteen and it works perfectly in my game. I'd still like to add autonomous proposals to the mix, but IIRC, it didn't play nice with something else I had. I need to reread that thread again.
209  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is it possible to mod the daylight times? on: 2007 July 02, 20:19:58
I have the modified Gunmod's version from MTS2. The hour long sunrises and sunsets stopped working with Seasons. I think someone posted about it over there.

The sunrises and sunsets still work, but some of the other lighting was overwritten by the new ambiance of Seasons, which is fine since fall does have different lighting than a summer day.
210  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Fitness Surprise on: 2007 July 01, 21:52:34
I had a toddler turn into a child and immediately start playing tag with dad. Meanwhile, I'm busy with mom giving the headmaster tour. Suddenly, I hear the familiar 'boing' that a Sim gets when they go from regular to fit. I quickly paused the game. The child was still in the playing tag pose, but dad was standing there showing off his new muscles.  I checked, and sure enough he just crossed over into the fit category.

It immediately ended the game of tag, and he got a skill bar, half filled, stuck above his head until he did another skilling activity, which corrected the situation.

First, I didn't know that Sims gained fitness during a game of tag. Second, I'm unsure about the skill bar. I don't remember seeing it over his head when I saw them playing tag, but I wasn't paying close attention either. The skill bar that was stuck was the body skill bar, which was half full because he didn't gain a body point yet, just went up in fitness level.

Sorry if this is old news to everyone else. It caught me by surprise. Is there anything else that adds to fitness such as playing catch, snowball fights, etc.?
211  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Fire Mod v2 on: 2007 July 01, 21:38:52
InSim has the option to extinguish all fires on the lot. While many may use this feature to cheat, I find it useful to get rid of invisible fires that are causing the game to lag.
212  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / That Kid Ain't Right (Error Log) on: 2007 July 01, 19:39:32
I have a child that hasn't been right from the moment she turned toddler. Whenever I have her selected AND I mouse over her, it throws an error about missing neighbor for data access.

Hood Setup:

Empty Templates. No Townies or Dormies created in hood. I made Four Grand Vamps. NPCs are generated as needed. No one has ever been deleted, nor has any Sims died.

First Generation from Uni CAS. All these Sims are now adults in the main hood and the child is from the first generation of Sims that are born in-game. I'm not having problems with any Sim except Sarah and there are about 25 born in-game Sims at this point.

I haven't made any changes in SimPe either. I looked at her in SimPe though, and I didn't see anything that was obviously incorrect.

I have attached an error log. This particular error is thrown by Monique's computer but removing the computer from the house doesn't stop the problem. Also, the error isn't being thrown on any other Sims and I have this computer in every house. I don't think the problem is the computer, but rather the fact that it checks for someone that doesn't exist.

I posted the error log for Monique a week or two ago and have received no answer.

I went to a comm lot last night and started getting errors. Some on getting in the hot tub, others on getting out. One Sim tried unsuccessfully to get in 3 different times, then I got an error complaining that an animation was requested 3 times. Well, yeah, the animation was requested but was never successful.

Odd thing is that for the first couple of Sim hours the hot tub was working fine. One couple even woohoo'd in it autonomously (ACR).  After the errors started, none of the Sims could enter the hot tub autonomously although I could direct them to enter it and it would be ok.
214  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Tutorial: Clean custom neighbourhoods + townie creation (updated for Seasons) on: 2007 June 30, 05:27:23
The way it should work:

Nodormieregen prevents the game from spawning dormies.
Nossrespawn prevents the game from arbitrarily spawning SS members.

Since you need to have one SS member at least for the SS to function, nossrespawn will attempt to turn one existing dormie into an SS member. If no dormies exist, one will be spawned.

I have a clean hood, and that isn't exactly what happened in my case. I didn't create any non playable characters other than four Grand Vamps. NPCs were created by the game as they were needed.

I started my playables in an empty Uni hood and placed an SS lot.  I kept a careful watch on each character that was created and only Profs and a dorm cook were created when I moved my first Sims into a dorm.

Afterwards it dawned on me that there was really no reason for the SS lot if I didn't have any SS members. So I attempted to create some with the townie tree (I think. It might have been mailbox if tree didn't have the option). But I could only get it to create one and not any more so I left the lot without saving, deciding I was actually happier without dormies anyway. I figure that if I ever want to use the lot, I'll assign a few playables to the SS status via TJ's college adjuster and work from there.

216  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Third Seasons Patch is out.... on: 2007 June 28, 18:11:01
I play with free will on. I was concerned when one active toddler did nothing except bop to the stereo her entire toddler-hood. When she was a teen she qualified for the dancing scholarship. This was back before we had skillinate>dancing and I was still unfamiliar with what scholarships were available.

So now I keep a stereo in the playroom. It keeps them awake so don't put it where they sleep. I even downloaded a stereo meshed to look like a baby mobile so it doesn't look out of place.

Something else I've also noticed, a beard has been missing ever since I installed Seasons. It's the big scruffy 'hermit' beard.

Me too. I think there might be one or 2 others missing too. The bald hair head with comb-over is also weird with strange patches on it. I was assuming that one of my downloaded hairs had messed these things up, but I never noticed the problems before installing Seasons. I've been planning to check a clean game, but haven't done it yet.
218  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Programmable Sleep Clock v3.31 on: 2007 June 25, 21:04:08
You have said that queue stompage=bad. I agree. I have sleepclocks set with bedtime>on, not Max.

Whenever a Sim is doing something user directed and the sleepclock kicks in, they finish their task then take off to bed. EXCEPT when it comes to homework. If a parent is helping a child learn to do their homework and either sleepclock (parent's or child's) kicks in, the queue is stomped. Most (or all...I'm not sure) of the time children doing homework alone are also called away to go to bed. I haven't done a successful test on macro>do homework to see if it is also affected.

The problem comes in because on the day that kids need to learn how to study, it takes longer to get both a parent and child home at the same time and in good enough condition to get them to study together on the homework. I think macro>do homework is supposed to grab a parent to help them if they don't have the study memory yet, but I haven't had any success with that. They take off to do it alone. Even when I direct a kid to ask for help, it usually drops out of queue long before the two end up near the desk. It often takes 2-3 tries before I am successful at getting the parent to help the child, so when I finally do get them together, I would prefer if the sleepclock didn't stomp it.

There have been occasions where the child was too sleepy to continue and they get up by themselves to go to bed. This I understand and don't have a problem with. It's just the queue stomping that bothers me.

I've also had some inconsistent errors, mostly involving new children. Here is one example:

Twins turn into children. I buy them beds and a sleepclock to share. Although the beds were custom, they are in use in most of my lots and the sleepclock is working fine with them. I tell twin1 to set bed class, set wake time, and turn on bedtime. It started throwing errors. Then I tried just setting bed class and it kept throwing errors. I tried the 2nd twin with the same result. Adult didn't error. Finally I decided they needed to be in a larger house anyway and moved the family. Sleepclock set fine in the new house. But I noticed that I didn't have to set the bed class.

I was curious. Sometimes new sleepclocks need the bed class set, and other times not. Usually the ones that don't need set were placed in the room several hours before I had anyone try to set it. Does it just look around to see what bed it will be assigned to even though it hasn't been set yet?
219  Ye Olde Simmes 2 Archives: Dead Creators / Ye Olde Syberspunke Archives / Re: Testers Wanted: Uni Careers Hack BETA v0.00.19 - Now with Wussy Documentati on: 2007 June 24, 07:22:15
The only QA/feedback that I'm worried about is whether you sim has any problems with careers showing up (or not showing up) when they are supposed to (or not).  Meaning... according to the settings of the hack (as described in the documentation... which will differ if you choose to customize things) if your sim fulfills the criteria for a career track, but has problems with that career not showing up.  I've had time to finally toy around with this, and thus far, it seems to work fine for me.

I've been using this mod for quite awhile, but didn't have any questions until I added the LS careers. I sent 14 Uni CAS sims through college, each with a different job related LTW. Every one of these has had their careers available to them...eventually. It took one Sim 3 Sim weeks before their job finally showed up. But most Sims were able to lock in their chosen field within the first week. I haven't tried every combination of major/careers, but so far all has been well.
220  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Phantom File in Downloads Folder? on: 2007 June 24, 00:40:01
When you enabled the showing of extensions, did you go into any of your other folders to see if the extensions are now showing for those files? If not, then it didn't 'take' and you need to go back and try again to enable it. If the extensions are showing for files in other folders, then read on.

I did searches on all of these, and came up empty. Usually, but not always, file names that are spyware or viruses will show up in the search engines.

The fact that all of the names start with CA probably means something, but at this point I don't know exactly what.

I notice that you end each filename with a period. Does this period actually show up now when looking at the file? Whenever I drop the extension from the filename, but leave in the period when renaming it, the period dissappears. If yours is showing, then I'm sure that some type of extension is actually there, even if it isn't showing up. (For example; take the file readme.txt and rename it to readme. (with the period, just removing the 'txt'). After you hit enter, the file will be called 'readme', not 'readme.' (with the period)

Will Windows let you:

  • rename the download folder?
  • rename any of the files?
  • change the attributes on these files so that they are neither read-only nor hidden?

If it lets you do any of the above, try deleting after you have renamed them. Probably won't work, but it has worked on occasion for me.

Else, boot into safe mode. Then try deleting the files one at a time, finishing with the Downloads folder if it lets you delete the files within.
221  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Phantom File in Downloads Folder? on: 2007 June 23, 22:36:22
Go back to the folder options where Venusy told you, and also uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types'. Don't undo the other changes she told you to do.

Now the files should read CA183YZ9.something.

What is the something? Are they package files or something else? Since you said there are 5-6 of these lurking files, do they all end in the same thing?

If one of the files are borked and you try to delete all of them at the same time (by trying to delete the main folder, or by highlighting all the files and choosing delete), Windows will 'get stuck' on the borked file and not only not delete that file, but not even try to delete any files after that. Have you tried deleting each file one at a time? Do they all give you the error message or do some of them delete correctly?

If the files are NOT package files, post the names of them here AFTER you have unhidden their extensions. You may have a virus or other malware on your system, although I have never seen these types of files show up in this particular folder, it certainly is something that is possible. I'm concerned about why they were 'hidden' in the first place.

Something new showed up on the debugger last night, under the nuke> area, I think. It was fix bad.... uh.... bad... well it wasn't fix player's bad memory, but it was fix bad something. It was available to both adults in the house, but I didn't see it show up when I was on another lot.

So was it something that when I see it, the bad *thing* exists and should be fixed, or is it one of those things that if I don't know what it is, I shouldn't touch it?
223  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Third Seasons Patch is out.... on: 2007 June 21, 20:01:30
OT RANT

There were similar install problems with Civ4 and ATI, but not only did they have a work-around up the day after release, but the patch to fix it within a week.

Every time I see someone say how Civ4 was fixed in the patch, I cringe. I've been a die-hard Civ player from the day Civ 1 was released. I've played every engine change since. Civ 3 never was balanced correctly to play a decent game so I rejoiced when Civ 4 was released. Much better, but several bugs that would crash you to the desktop. Patch applied. Better, but not fixed. Warlord expansion applied. Fixed a lot of stuff the patch never touched. Only a few bugs left. Patch applied. Doggone if they didn't fix a critical crashing bug, so I have to keep the patch, but they broke several things they fixed when I installed Warlords.  Grrr....

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

If so, then are these potential conflicts harmful or just address the same thing? Or should I just remove the 2 LS careers to use this mod?
