176  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: "Change into formal" object anywhere? on: 2006 February 01, 23:46:41
Didn't Inge already make a formal door? I mean, I've been using it in my game (although not on community lots yet). A painting would be good, so they are already in the right clothes when they arrive, but otherwise...

Inge's got a formal and a swimwear (beach) door, that will have no options to set on a community lot.
177  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: "Change into formal" object anywhere? on: 2006 February 01, 23:44:58
Meh, I'll just do all clothing types then. I'm not sure if naked will work without creating my own full nudist hack, which I really don't want to do. The global naked awareness will cause most of them to just change clothes right away. I'll try it and see what happens.

I'm not planning anything fancy for the actual objects, just more clones of the Lady in Red like the others. If someone want to get creative and make something better, I'm all for it. It doesn't matter to me what the object is, all I'm really using is it's GUID. The object itself just sits (or hangs) there.

My door has a naked option and it's no different coding wise for me.  The emitter and blurring take place in the global 39a, or the InTeen replacement.  I have Crammyboys mod, so at least there's achance that once naked they will stay that way.  In fact, the more sims that are naked in that mod, the more chance they will not get dressed.  Might be able to make a naturists lot Smiley

It's just some GUID's I need too.  I don't actually like paintings that look decorative when they just perform a function, but a wall hanging is a good idea as is takes little space.
Another idea is to use rugs, then they'll still be visible with walls down and not obstruct views like an 'always visible painting'.
That's NL only then of course.
178  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: "Change into formal" object anywhere? on: 2006 February 01, 20:57:56
I'm shortly gonna need a set of 'paintings' myself to set the mode of my door on comm lots.

I'd thought a 'dress code sign' would be easy to understand, with the same icons for clothes that the game uses, with some kind of new icon for the naked option.
I need these to apply the dress code to an individual room, not initial clothing as 2Js would be.

As Inge, twojeffs and I all have a need for these things, perhaps we can join forces and create a set of signs, perhaps with different background colours to indicate the scope.

Although, 'join forces' in my case means 'can I leach off your objects?', or could 'someone give me a starter object?' Smiley
I'm not a mesher, but I think I could cope with editing the images.

It's a shame we can't just make one object, and set/read the values from the recolour Sad

179  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Taking a census on: 2006 February 01, 19:21:05
Any info that sheds light on the situation would be helpful. Smiley

They are flags, so yes they are additive.  Look at the values in binary and count the '1's.
If there are more than 2 '1's in a turn-on field then we need to rethink.

They show up in SimPE in the check boxes, and you can see the decimal values in the alternate view to check them.
So it was Quaxi that figured them out first, and Jaxed0127 posted that list recently over at ambertation.  I havn't checked them myself, their word is good enough for me.
180  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Smart Door on: 2006 February 01, 19:07:36
syberspunk:

The fish acts just like the keys, in that they are a way to define a group of sims to use in the access or clothes choosing functions.
BTW, in custom, you can change it so that keys or fish block access.

Yes, I will add all the Maxis game doors to this single package.  I just did one to start with for testing. It's the only one so far.
Oh, I forgot to say that this package includes the diagonal version of that door too.  It works just the same, but if you move a door from a diagonal
wall to a straight (or vice versa) the options go back to the default, as they are different objects.

You can give keys to anyone on the lot, just as Inge's keyholder doors work.  You could give a key to the maid but...

My keyholder mode is sliigtly different to Inge's, which you can see if you switch from keyholder to custom mode to view all options.
NPCs are allowed through locked keyholder doors (which is how Inges' work).
Also, I have set the 'Non Autonomous' Pass Override.  This means that you can manually send in any controllable sim through the door.
More importantly you can tell your keyholder to go lie on their bed, and 'ask to join' a non keyholder and they won't be stopped at the door.

The 'non autonomous' is also useful for the macrotastics commands.  I found I couldn't use Inges doors on a toilet door as 'Use Bathroom' would continuously try to send the sim into a locked room.

Nectere, Inge:

Textures.  Yep, I'll put just the original maxis textures for each door in, and have the same default ones.
I found something strange when making the door.  I only had the default texture,  but when the door is placed on a diagonal wall
it picks up the original door colours on its own!  I couldn't reproduce this trick with the straight door though.  When moved between diag and straight the door kept the recolour.

Gali:

Er... By 'not caught cheating', if you mean that the 'cheated on sim' will not be able to 'slap' the offender then that is right.
Even if the door is set on private, both sims will still get the memories, but at least the offender will not end up furious for being slapped.
He... then with Syberspunks fix it will only be the offender that has to apologize Smiley
181  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Harder finances hack? on: 2006 February 01, 06:20:53
Doh... yes 1000 a week is even better.

If you think in roughly the terms of a sim day is a year, that's still a great deal.
That'll be about 3k for the whole of there education.

Make it 3k a week? Or tweakable.
182  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Harder finances hack? on: 2006 February 01, 06:11:24
500 a week for private school - Yes, it sounds great.

I always thought that must've been in the original spec. for the game.
What with them stupid memories about how the parents are shelling out money for it.
183  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Smart Door (23 Feb 2006 update) on: 2006 February 01, 04:12:05
23 Feb 2006 - Added 4 more doors from EP1 and EP2i.
Fixed bug with autonomy and privacy setting.

This is the same download that is available at
http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=129124
but I know that not all here have an account there.
The docs are included with in the download.

SmartDoor v0.105 for University plus Nightlife
By tunaisafish

Control where your sims can go, and what they wear when they get there.

INSTALLATION

Copy the package file in the "My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 Downloads" folder.
To uninstall, delete the package file.

FEATURES

 * Change Sims clothes as they pass through doors.

   - configure both directions separately.
   - Choose different outfits for certain sims or groups.
   - Change or leave unchanged, depending how the sim is currently dressed.

 * Quick Configure for preset Access Modes.

   - Normal         Acts just like a plain old door.
   - No Entry       Sims can only pass in one direction.
   - User Directed  Like No Entry, but will not block Sims if you are controlling them.
   - Halt Gender    Choose which gender to block.
   - Halt Ages      Choose which age groups to block.
   - No Visitors    Don't allow visitors through.
   - Keyholders     Give keys to those you want to pass.
   - 3's a Crowd    Choose how many sims are allowed in a room.

     IMPORTANT
Each of the above modes will always allow sims to exit from the room freely.
When placing the door, make sure the arrows face in the direction of the exit.
THE ARROWS MUST FACE OUT OF THE ROOM.

Use the 'Show Settings' menu to see what tweak options each mode provides.

 * Control room access just the way you like it.

   - Custom
The custom mode allows you to combine any of the doors features.
You can configure the entry and exit access separately.
Before you choose a custom mode, select a preset mode that closely fits your
specification.  There will be less to tweak.

 * Shows the current settings on the menus.

Complex configurations can be made with this door, so to make it easier to know
what the door will do each of the menu items displays the current setting.
Also, the settings should be read in a clockwise direction if you want to know which
   option is tested first.
Most menus will be hidden if you use a preset mode, to hide the clutter.

 * Twelve keys (or fish).
The door can remember up to 12 Sims by giving the sim a key and/or a fish.
The fish is just another type of key.
You can use these keyholders and fishholders in the clothes menus and the custom access mode.

 * Two lock modes.
Each side of the door can be set to unlocked, locked, or private.
   - unlocked  Sims pass freely.
   - locked    Checks that the sim passes the access rules.
   - private   As locked, but Sims without access will not be aware of other Sims or objects
behind the locked door.  They lose their telepathy.
For best results, only use the private option on rooms that only have one
entrance.  A music room or bedroom for example.

COMPATIBILITY

Tested with both University and Nightlife installed.
Will NOT work with base game alone.
It may work with just one expansion pack installed, feedback welcome.

This door does not overwrite any global code, so it can safely exist
with other security systems on the same lot.
However, do not use 2 different access systems to control the same room.

It should work fine with the InTeenimator.

IN THE PIPELINE

So what is so "Smart" about this door?
Well, nothing yet, as you have to configure it yourself through the maze of menus.
The smart routines will allow the door to pickup it's configuration from the environment
when it is placed on a community lot, and an extra residential mode to automagically configure
the best options for it's current location.

THANKS

Special thanks go to Inge Jones for being too busy on more interesting stuff
to add all of my whims and fancies to her doors.

I'm going to add the ability to do this to the visitor controller so sim's will automatically appear in the proper clothes. I'm thinking that only formal and swimwear are really necessary as options. Does anyone see any need for any others?

Undies - it's the other turn on.
185  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maxis Message on: 2006 January 31, 15:46:40
The first one I saw was the 'Taurus' one.

I'd just downloaded 'runs with scissors' and wanted to see what it did.
Don Lothario volunteered to be the guinea-pig Smiley

After the Grim Reaper saw Don on his way, he went to the sofa, switched on the TV, and watched and ranted for about an hour.
I thought he was going to stay forever.
186  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Correcting the DNA of Strangetown premade characters on: 2006 January 31, 15:09:46
Oh, there are numerous misspellings throughout the program, such as "Gradparent" in the relationship fields.

Then you should report them at the SimPE forum so that they can be fixed. Quaxi is German so he may not notice all English mispellings.

Just what I was going to say Smiley

Add any more you find to this thread http://ambertation.de/simpeforum/viewtopic.php?t=2549
187  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sorry for sounding like a dolt. Question about aging_off and birth and stuff on: 2006 January 31, 01:47:03
Ahh, yes that's it, "babies"  Grin

I knew there was some reason not to use aging off around pregnancy time.
In the base game I had a baby for about 2 weeks before I realised that aging was off.
It was not funny at the time.
This was before I had hacks or had joined BBS's.
188  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sorry for sounding like a dolt. Question about aging_off and birth and stuff on: 2006 January 31, 01:23:22
I think you can get pregnant, but you need aging on for the pregnancy to develop.
189  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Harder finances hack? on: 2006 January 31, 01:19:20
I'll chime in and say I like the no20K handout as well.

Yep, me too, together with the 'money order'.

The biggest thing that bugs me with the finances is just how cheap the houses are, relative to other stuff.
Maybe this is a national thing?  In the UK we don't build houses with partition walls, that sort of stuff is reserved for offices, and even then the price would be much higher when you add the labour cost.

Perhaps raising the price of walls would be a simple solution, with Inge's mortgage shrubs to get your sims housed initially.
Not many ppl I know own their houses outright.  We all live on credit nowdays  Grin
190  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Taking a census on: 2006 January 31, 01:04:19
This sounds cool. I'm interested in age, sex, asperation, zodiac, career and if possible also turn ons/offs. This would be so usefull. But it would be even cooler if you could do townies and playable sims seperately. The townie info squished in together would make the playable sims info harder to gauge if you were only interested in them.

'Cool' is not the word Smiley  It makes me shudder how much time in the past I've been writting sim info by hand.

All those columns are there, you'll need the info below for the turn-on flags (thanks Jaxad).
Reporting on *all* the sims doesn't take long.  You can then sort by household in your spreedsheet program to gather townies etc, together.

List 2:
32 - Gray Hair, 16 - Custom Hair, 8 - Black Hair, 4 - Brown Hair, 2 - Red Hair, 1 - Blonde Hair
List 1:
8192 - Tatoos, 4096 - Hats, 2048 - Full Face Makeup, 1024 - Makeup, 512 - Glasses, 256 - Facial hair, 128 - Vamprism
64 - Underwear, 32 - Swim Wear, 16 - Formal Wear, 8 - Fitness, 4 - Fatness, 2 - Stink, 1 - Cologne
191  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Taking a census on: 2006 January 31, 00:38:11
The 'Save...' option is on the report dialog, at the bottom right.

Are you on AOL or something? Perhaps your ISP still has the old version cached?
This is not gonna make much sense until you have .54
The character (neat, outgoing, etc) columns were added with 54 too.

The data will look like a mess as there's far more columns in there that you will need, but if you load it into a spreadsheet you can easily delete the stuff you don't want. If you're thinking of creating your own table of your sims now, this gives you an excellent head start.

This output is mainly for programs like sims2db, so you won't have to type it in manually.
The CSV is also RAW data, so some of the values like DNA will show 'imcomprehensible' strings, instead of blue eyes, etc.
So turn-ons won't make sense unless you write some spreadsheet functions to replace them, or wait for Pegasys to write the import function for sim2db.  Lots of work to do there.
192  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Zodiac Compatability on: 2006 January 31, 00:16:37
Well I'm a Scorpio, so I can't grumble too much. Grin
Although my character is probably nearer to Sims Pisces than anything else.

I've got a bit of paper with the Zodiacs in a circle, and all the attract arrows pointing at the others in blue, with the repel arrows in red.
It's a far easier 'chart' to look at who likes who at a glance.
If I had a scanner I'd post it.
193  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Zodiac Compatability on: 2006 January 30, 23:46:37

I tend to agree with 'zephos' about the aspirations though.
http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelink.html?rlid=111953

He has a much more realistic aspirations chart in his FAQ.

There's also loads more stuff in the FAQ worth printing.
194  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Taking a census on: 2006 January 30, 23:34:33
Open SimPE version .54 (30 Jan 2006)

On the Menubar at the top...
Extra->Preferences.  Choose SimPE Settings.  Set 'Report Format' to CSV. Press OK.

Tools->Neighborhood->Neighborhood Browser.  Select your hood then press OK.

Look in the left hand pane and select "Sim Description (SDSC)".
In the Right hand pane select all the sims you want a report on.
eg. Click the first, scroll the list down, shift-click the last.

Press "Ctrl-D" (or Tools->Create Description->from selection)

The report pops up, choose 'save...' to create the CSV file.

Hope that's clear.
195  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Taking a census on: 2006 January 30, 23:20:55
How do you make SimPE .54 make the .csv file?  I am as SimPE literate as a rock.
Bear with me, I'm writing some step by step notes on this as I post.
The CSV option is under preferences for the Report Format.

BTW, V.54 only came out today, so you'll need to update it if you haven't already.
196  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Taking a census on: 2006 January 30, 22:57:11
So I take it nobody is interested in quickie in-game census reports, then?
If you write it, we'll use it Smiley

Summary info would be good to check before making new sims in CAS.

A configurable 'whois' search would be good too.
ie. Who is 'female, single, fit, brown hair, adult, ...".
197  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Taking a census on: 2006 January 30, 22:05:18
Simmiecal,

There's a new feature in SimPE .54 to get a csv file containing character info.
Quaxi added this to support sims2db easier.

You should be able to open the cvs file with any spreadsheet program.
198  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Just so you know... a neighborhood can only handle so many lot clones on: 2006 January 30, 18:14:16
I do the same as Zeljka to get flat land, but then leave that land bare as a place to start building new lots.

I spent ages building a set of template houses to put in the bin once, only to find that one of the side edges was not completely flat.
So I couldn't place these houses next to eachother in the hood.  Very annoying - had to redo them all.

199  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help with freezing on: 2006 January 30, 04:13:52
Is this just the game that's freezing, or windows itself?  How do you get out of it?
My gut instinct on this is heat.  Try running with the side of the box off.
Well maybe I would jump to that conclusion as my machine will not run with the sides on.
200  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: We interrupt your simming for a commercial....... on: 2006 January 29, 19:11:27
No, that's your imagination running away with you.

What really happened is that you drank 8 pints, lost your wallet, picked a fight with your best mate, ate a bad kebab, trampled through your neighbours' flowerbeds on the way home, and then slept face down near your bed in a pile of vomit.

Of course, in the morning you remember none of this, which is where the adverts come in.  You must've had a great time really Smiley
