151  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Proposal Mood Requirements? on: 2006 July 05, 21:11:39
Something about TS2's been bugging me for a while, I've noticed that it's too easy to get someone to accept a proposal.  In TS1 you had to feed the sim, get them to go the bathroom and even then it sometimes wasn't accepted because they weren't in the mood.  Now in TS2 it's not even a challenge because you know they'll accept it 99.9% of the time.  Sure, I know that Sims age now but it seems that it's not even an accomplishment now.

I haven't exactly looked at the propose interaction with SimPE, but it keeps crashing before I could get to it.  Is there a minimum mood requirement for accepting a proposal or is it all based on STR and LTR?

152  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Looking for the mod causing my grief. on: 2006 July 04, 06:40:47
Well, I did see Monique's Auto Do Homework Mod (MQ_Do_Homework_Mod.package) and it could be conflicting with the InTeenimater or some other hack.  You could try removing Monique's hack or the InTeen and see if that does anything.

Alternatively, you could check for conflicts using SimWardrobe's TS2 Hack Conflict Detection Utility.  Sometimes it'll say two hacks are conflicting even if they're not, but it's better than nothing.
153  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New Nvidia drivers available-Version: 91.31 on: 2006 June 29, 21:43:36
I've never had a new set of nVidia drivers break the computer.  I'm downloading it though, since Ancient said it reduces Blue Screens and that's the only problem I have with mine now even though it's not frequent.
154  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maxis cars as driveable NL cars - super hard?? on: 2006 June 29, 03:00:48
I believe someone said that why the Maxian cars aren't drivable is the seat position.  However, it's really odd seeing custom cars at what appears to be different heights and no one has even retried putting the Maxian cars in there.

Also, what's up with people not posting Polygon counts on these cars?  I thought it was required when a new mesh was posted on MTS2.
155  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New Patches for OFB and FFS on: 2006 June 25, 20:06:36
I finally got around to installing the patch about a week ago, and finally played it yesterday.  Except for the fact that all my robots were missing everything in the game works.

Oddly enough, the first time I installed it I got the same error as many of your are getting, about reinstalling OFB and such.  When I removed the modified loading text it worked fine though, although something else could have happened during that time that is completely unrelated.
156  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Alien Face Replacements? on: 2006 June 20, 05:03:47
The only thing about the Default Alien Template, since Aliens have those huge eyes wouldn't the next generation spawn have those huge eyes too?  It would become a non-issue if they become a permanent townie or don't have children but I could see where a default template replacementcould help out in the long run.
157  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Easy Break Up hack on: 2006 June 20, 03:40:07
I thought they only left the bags of poo after a horrible date?

Breaking off engagement makes more sense, but I think a slightly better option would be to allow multiple engagements or enable fighting at near 100/100 levels.  I believe there was a hack that enabled all socials in TS1 such as fighting, and I think there might have been some pet ones in there also.
158  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Easy Break Up hack on: 2006 June 20, 02:35:09
Sure, the furious state has flaws but I wouldn't want to remove it entirely.  Some of these flaws are fixed by other hacks, such as allowing your sim to ignore a fights and no furious states over balloon puddles.

As for break-ups, I've never found them useful at all.  It'll just increase the time you play if you sync and you'll have two families named "Whatever".  Also, why the hell are they married if you don't want them to be together anyway?
159  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: 'No Patch' Play - How do you feel about this? on: 2006 June 17, 03:12:06
I really don't see what is so great about Linux.  It's not any "easier" to install them, and I've had less errors in Windows XP than in Ubuntu.  Kubuntu wouldn't even install.  Fedora Core took the entire 20GB partition I made for it for itself, I couldn't reduce the size of it afterwards like the 70GB partition that Windows resided on.  Not to mention that they bundle FIREFOX in those distros.  You'd think if they cared about security and speed they would have ditched it for Opera.

Other than SP1 clothing, has Maxis ever fixed a critical issue that wasn't fixed by the 3rd party?
160  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bye Bye downloads. Hello Organization on: 2006 June 14, 21:19:50
I've got very few downloads, so I just sort by creator.  There's 1 or 2 things not subfoldered just because they don't really belong in any categories.

What they say on the InSim site only applies if you don't have Nightlife or above.  You can subcategorize anything if you have Nightlife, but I'm not sure you can if you just have OFB or SP1.  InTeen supposedly fixes it's problems by being in the main folder, probably just due to the fact that things in the main folder are read by the program first, so in reality you're just shielding the true problem.  Probably similar to some of Squinge's stuff too.
161  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is FFS worth every penny? on: 2006 June 12, 21:01:02
I would actually get a donatiion pack that had 5 or so careers with LTWs and reward objects.  However, that'll never happen and they'll just keep doing retextures for the thing forever.

5 Careers were added last time in Unleashed, maybe they'll do the same thing again for Unleashed 2?  I bet if they did though, they would require pet ownership for those careers, and we still won't get good ones.
162  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: 'No Patch' Play - How do you feel about this? on: 2006 June 12, 19:39:31
There's probably some people out there that don't install Microsoft Windows updates because they see no need for them.  Also, these are probably the same people that think Microsoft is watching them.  These same people also complain when Microsoft actually tries to do anything about these problems, whining that they're copying of MacOS X.  Whatever.

Back on topic, I keep my game patched mostly for compatibility and issues that modders won't even bother with anymore.
163  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is FFS worth every penny? on: 2006 June 09, 21:48:34
When I installed the thing, I removed it after 30 minutes.  I rarely ever use children, so most of the stuff in the expansion doesn't appeal to me.  Also, I hate the fact that FFS labels the bootscreen.

The thing installs exactly like an expansion, has folders like an expansion, and adds features like an expansion(Transparent to anyone with NL and UNI).  It must be an expansion.
164  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sweet Mother Gaia: RAM is Good... on: 2006 June 09, 21:41:58
I just got a laptop from HP, and they upgraded the model to the dv5000t from the dv4000.  With this, they upgraded the processor to a dual-core(still trying to actually figure out if they ACTUALLY did this), upgraded the wireless card, graphics card, and changed the HDD type to Serial ATA instead of a Parallel ATA.  I got a letter about it in the mail a day after the thing got here.  I'll definately buy from them again, but directly this time since TechDepot was no help.

As for the screen, it's hard to find anything to fit the resolution.  TS2 does, but Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri doesn't.  I have to make my own wallpapers from 1600x1200 images.  I'm also looking for a distribution of Linux that will support the thing also, because Ubuntu doesn't.
165  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Linux? on: 2006 June 09, 20:03:35
I've been looking into getting a version of linux for my laptop, but I'm confused about which would be the best choice since there's so many out there.  I tried ubuntu, but it didn't seem to support my laptop's native resolution (1280x800) and reminded me of the horrible MacOS X.  I'm currently downloading Fedora Core 5, but you've got to install it on the HDD so I want to be sure it supports the 1280x800 resolution and can be installed alongside Windows XP before doing anything.

I know that I want the thing to support KDE, since GNOME is the one that looks like MacOS X.  Which one do you use or would recommend?
166  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sweet Mother Gaia: RAM is Good... on: 2006 June 09, 18:34:59
With that setup, your RAM is probably still upgradable unless Dell shoved 2-512MB sticks in there instead of a single stick.  Upgrading to 1GB from pretty much anything lower makes a drastic difference.

I believe the 7800 Go is also helping the game performance too, since it's sort of a high end card.  However, you really don't need the best card to play the thing well - a Geforce 6100 performs decently with smooth edges.  A better card will render the game better though, regardless.
167  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Should I buy OFB? on: 2006 June 08, 01:33:09
OFB's comparable to Nightlife in terms of gameplay.  Most of the things added are related to running businesses, so if you're really not interested in running businesses with at least 1 or 2 of your sims you should pass.  Unlike the other expansions, it's 1 CD so you feel cheated in paying $35 for it.

BitTorrent is your friend.
168  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What do you think of this? BFBVFS? on: 2006 June 06, 01:24:23
I really don't see the point in this, isn't there already an object activated by BoolProp that just increases skills without all those "So-and-So has gotten a skill" messages?

Oh right, Boolprop is evil.
169  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Building Contest Of Awesomeness! on: 2006 June 03, 07:28:31
I've got one built, but haven't Sim-Tested it yet.  Supposedly it can hold an 8 sim loadout, 6 comfortably.  The only thing is that the Vomitorium/Vein/Hallway is about half the size of the house.
170  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Trash disposal, JM style? on: 2006 June 03, 07:23:44
I'm surprised that SimWardrobe hasn't recreated the bomb.  I've downloaded the thing, but haven't tried it yet.  I doubt it poses a fire risk though.
171  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Building Contest Of Awesomeness! on: 2006 June 01, 20:08:26
I've got a few ideas for this, so I might actually give this a shot.  I barely even use CC, so that part won't be a problem.
172  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ummm...are these the best she can do? on: 2006 May 28, 18:49:40
When she graduates and moves to a residential lot that isn't connected to the University, Move In/Marry the Uni Sim.  He'll go through the YA -> A transition, but he'll be listed as dropping out.  If you want to graduate him, you're going to have to move him into a University Residential lot by using Propose.../Move In and play him through.
173  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ummm...are these the best she can do? on: 2006 May 28, 18:18:48
1 isn't actually half bad, considering that he's a townie.  Then again, I don't hate townie looks as much as most people.  Then again, I nuked said townies because I just plain don't like townies.

If I remember correctly, pretty much anything is illegal in a Legacy challenge except for using Elixirs of Life.
174  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: 48-Hour Legacy on: 2006 May 27, 03:37:38
At best, this thing would take 10 hours on continuous Ultra Fast Speed.  This is also assuming that the data for Ultra Fast is times normal speed as it states in the TS2Config file.  This also assumes that you aren't going downtown and your computer doesn't lag like crazy with the thing on this speed.

Here's the proof for the thing, if anyone's interested in how I got that.
(24 Minutes [1 simday in Normal] x 100 days [MAX Sim LE] x 5 generations) / (60 minutes)= 200 Hours in Normal
Normal Hours / 3 [default setting of Fast] = 67 Hours in Fast (Approximate)
Normal Hours / 21 [the default setting in Ultra Fast] = 10 Hours in Ultra Fast (Approximate)

This challenge couldn't be done using the other speeds, but it would be interesting to see how far someone can actually get.
175  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Screen resolution on: 2006 May 27, 02:56:33
Essentially, my game tends to lag a little more when I use the 1024x768 resolution than it does at the 800x600 resolution.  I don't know if this is just a placebo effect though.  By the way, I do use a CRT monitor.
