151  The Bowels of Trogdor / The Small Intestines of Trogdor / Re: Route-blocking flags and autonomous am I on: 2006 February 17, 06:45:01
Update, I think this is working fine now.

I'm assuming that if param 8 == 1, then autonomy is implied.
I still don't know what p9 is.

Might be an issue if a macro uses the 'find best action for' thing.
Inge, I remember you saying something about that a while back.
152  The Bowels of Trogdor / The Small Intestines of Trogdor / Re: Route-blocking flags and autonomous am I on: 2006 February 17, 04:22:53
I just got out of bed with this brainwave, so I hope you appreciate it.

I was getting a flashing icon with my doors too, and couldn't figure where it was coming from.
I removed the 'Autonomous - Am I?' check, and the flashing icons disappeared. Good find.

I just got up to do some testing, and it looks like you cannot rely on the autonomy flags being correctly set when the sim is 'just scanning the routes to objects'.
In the just scan mode, param 8 is set to 1, and param 9 holds what looks like some flags.
I've written down a bunch of param 9 values, I'll have a look at them later to see if I can figure any out.
Perhaps the autonomy flags are in param 9 in this case? or maybe it's completely unrelated.
153  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Smart Door (16 Feb 2006 update) on: 2006 February 16, 20:00:05
I'll look into changing the kids too.  That won't be hard to do.
I thinks it's just athletic wear that they don't have.
I don't know what they change into when told to change into Athletic.

The toddlers only have a few outfits to wear though.
I was far too lazy at the time to check out all the valid change options that made them wear something reasonable.

I thought is was just everyday / PJs / Naked,
and if someone can tell me if there's a test for the Xmas pack, I can add formal. (thanks Jordi)

I was just about to post an unrestricted test version which had the age checking disabled for the kids and toddlers.
But I couldn't find my code!  Oops, seems I forgot to add them Embarrassed

I just checked with a toddler and it did change her between everyday/PJs.
So in this case the HOWTO is wrong.

So if people let me know which outfits don't work for kids/toddlers, and what they would prefer the outfit to be in these cases I'll finish that bit of code.

v0.104 (16 Feb 2006)
Changed BHAV format for backwards Uni compatible.
  Added Bad Door Placement warning.
  Added Access Mode Description Strings.
Added Custom Access Mode 'Door State Values'.
Adjusted defaults for "3's a crowd" mode.

I would predict by this logic that any species which evolved with a number of digits that happened to be a power of 2 would have an early advantage in computers since it would feel very natural to them to operate in a powers-of-2 based system that computers run on.

So arachnids must think in Octal.  Which probably explains how they became such architectual experts.
Quiet a few angles to work out when building a web.

Or do they count with both their eyes and legs, and think in Hex?
156  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Smart Door (updated 8 Feb 2006) on: 2006 February 08, 01:34:58
Thanks to all for asking questions in this thread Smiley

I've put together a HOWTO document that should make it easier to quickly get going with the door.
There's also an advanced section for those that love to dabble.

Should be so much clearer now Smiley
157  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB for Builders on: 2006 February 07, 19:36:24
Well, I can dive back into that house tonight.  I'm loathe to, it's weird working with it; Twilight Zone stuff.  But I'm pretty sure if you're still having the problem...

No, what I mean is that has a bad house been made with the new EPs.
I suspect that once a lot is bad, it doesn't matter which version you use to view it.  The internal data of the stairs is corrupt.
If you do want to mess with that old house, then try using the the 'stuck objects remover' from the Firing Range.
If that works, problem solved.
I don't think anybody will be keen on making a new hack just now when we know OFB will be turning all that code upside down again.

The one I made was with the original TS2.  I've not seen any of my newly created houses have the bugs since then, but that may be because the whole issue has tamed my extravagant buiding tendencies.  The bad lot was on a harddisk that died, so I can't test the SOR on that one.

158  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB for Builders on: 2006 February 07, 18:11:54
Has it been known for this stairs problem to happen to a house before you move in any sims?
I'm just trying to cut down the number of things that may be causing this.
I'm hoping that it can happen.  As then we can rule out interference from a lot of the other buggy objects 'like bookcases' that sometimes screw up unrelated stuff when they are in use.  There's more chance then of finding a buggy bit of code to fix.

Another thing that it would be worth checking to see if this is a common feature.  Did the landing at the top of one stair intersect with the bottom landing of another set?  I recall that my house went bad after replacing a staircase like this with a straight modular stair - And that was the centre of
the house where the teleporting happened.  (That house died with the harddisk it was on)

I can think of some things to try to fix this problem if it has already happened, but you'd need to move some sims into the house to use them.
JMP's invisible object remover.  Or perhaps a new modular stairs zapper function on a debugging object.
It may be necessary to find the cause before using these sort of hacks though as it could call the same functions that are buggy.

I found an old locked thread on MTS2 in the building section about this problem so I'll probably reread that again to see if the my Q's can already be answered.  Oh, one more thing I remember that was also discussed there was not being able to attach a banister to the buggy stairs.  That's something I remember happening on mine, but only on one side.  Perhaps a clue to which end the problem lay.

Someone in that thread said they reported the problem to Maxis.  So if it was some buggy code that caused this in the first place, we need to make sure this problem still happens with later EPs before some poor modder peers into the spaghetti code on a wild goose chase.
159  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: helpful ghosts on: 2006 February 07, 07:26:38
The angriness of the ghost affects their haunting range.  I think the minimum range is 3 squares.

It's not as bad as it sounds.  The kittens have another 8 lives, that's a fact.  Even God cannot take all nine lives at once.
So as there are more kittens in the world than installations of the InTeen - NO kittens have died.  Grin
That's not true. God picks the kitten with the lowest instance number and kills that one repeatedly, just like why when you spy on your neighbors with a telescope, the same person always shows up to shove you. Thus, every 9 Inteenimator installs exhausts a kitten of all of its lives.
No you've got it wrong Pescado, but even Einstien couldn't believe that "God plays dice with the Universe" at first, so don't feel too bad about yourself.
Her random function, unlike the Maxis one, actually works pretty damn well.  Our computers would not be working if this were not true.

Yay, the kittens live Smiley
161  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB for Builders on: 2006 February 07, 00:57:44
Yes jack, it sounds the same.

I would try to delete one set of stairs, and another set would be sold.
Then trying to continually delete the same set, would add  '1200' to the funds each time.

I did have partial success by deleting all mention of modular stairs in the lotfile using SimPE.
But I had some off-lot stairs appear over the other side of the road.

Any pointers to a thread where this problem is being (has been) discussed?
162  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB for Builders on: 2006 February 06, 23:52:11
Creating, discovering, "inventing" a process is every bit as important as creating and producing an object :p

Add 'testing' and 'providing feedback' to that list too Smiley
'Brainstorming', as well - how many hack ideas have been inspired from MATY threads alone.

<group hug>

Maxis half-walls are like fences - they are the color they are, they don't stack, they won't hold up a floor, you can't put a window (or an iron arch type thing from a partial glass window) in the top of one, etc.

The Maxis half-walls are grey, and you can put wallpaper on them.
You can't recolour the wooden bit at the top which is proabably what you were *thinking* when you typed that  Wink

Am I missing something - Are there going to be prebuilt spiral staircases ?

I did manage to make a lot once with modular stairs going up in stages on different levels of foundation.
It worked fine in one house, but in another 4x4 plot the modular stairs became connected somehow.
Sims would walk up the internal stairs, and end up at the top of the ones in the garden.
163  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Correcting the DNA of Strangetown premade characters on: 2006 February 06, 23:12:08
If someone with a clean install of the neighbourhood just posted the files that changed after fixing it with SimPE, the zipfile would probably be quiet small.  Probably small enough to host here?

I've not fixed my Strange or Verona yet. If I do get round to doing it I'll make some.
164  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Greet me, Kiss me, Kill you... on: 2006 February 06, 22:49:17
Everytime somebody installs the Inteenimator, God kills a kitten. How does it feel to know you just caused the death of an innocent kitten, you murderer?

Think of the poor kittens!

Grah!!! Gwill, stop confusing me.  That quote was in the last thread I just read Smiley

Well I might be the first to ask you, but I know I'm not the only one who is very grateful you posted this.
It's not just you who's the addict here Smiley

It's now a text file in my sims info folder.  You did a good job there.
I know some of this has been discussed here before, but good to have it one file.
And there's more you say ?

This info will be good posted in 'The War Room'.

If you like that sort of thing, then "Maximizing personalities" will probably interest you too.

Oh, about the names.  Do you have Live.package ? From variousimmers.
This gives more names to choose from, but I didn't know that townies/downtownies/dormies pulled from different lists.

I can tell you exactly how many sims though - it's been the same each time and I've done it three times.
Hey, are you some kind of tease ?

ebony:  The InTeen site is a bit sparse on info as it has recently re-locacted.

http://mysite.verizon.net/aestudios/sims2/

There is a very good doc in the download itself that lists the various other hacks that conflict, and those that do not.
Some that do conflict have HotFixes available - the install instructions are easy going.

Rufus:

It'd be good to see your mod as a hotfix in the Cracker Barrel of Jase's site.

Touché Maxon  Grin You win, I give up.

I'm following this thread as these literary heavyweights are learning me to write properly.

Mistakes like that annoy me even more than the whole "your, you're, their, there, they're".

Do you have the cellphone fix installed?

I've seen the stuck cellphones bug it fixes.  Don't know if it addresses this too.

171  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Difficulty getting macro's to work with privacy hacks on: 2006 February 03, 18:50:03
The setting that allows your sims to go through my door wihen they aren't supposed to, is the 'non autonomous' pass override.
So I'm happy that is working Smiley  I have set this option in most of the preset access modes.
You can disable this in custom mode if you realy want to.

I did this to avoid the macro-fighting that occurs when one macro continuously tries to send the sim through the door, while the other continuously blocks the access.  As you've seen, that's not fun to watch.

Clicking the toilet roll to 'be used' is a non-autonomous action which should always pass.
I'm not sure if 'power idle' runs at a higher priority or not.  If it runs as autonomous there'll be macro fights, if it chooses to use an object behind a locked door.

As Inge says, there's nothing much we can do with the doors to make this better.
172  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Idiot Teen Refusing to Go To School on: 2006 February 02, 16:33:46
Well Ill take you're word for it as you are a teecher, and making a pyle of howmwork as we right Smiley

That possessive rule always confuses me.  It parses as "Dog is Bollocks".
Is "Dogs' Bollocks" OK if there is more that one dog though?

All you idiot teens that aren't attending school, stick around...
173  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Smart Door (updated 2 Feb 2006) on: 2006 February 02, 16:16:28
The fish is whatever you want it to be Inge  Grin

I've set up fish to ban in the access routines, but the test is disabled on the preset modes.
You can only activate to Pass/Halt fishholders with the custom mode.

The key and fish just define two groups of sims that the doors knows.
If you enable the clothes change options, you can use the fishholders list there too.

Using this you could have a couple enter their private bedroom and both change into the clothes that turn on their partner.
That's the sort of thing I will be adding to the 'smartness', as you can get a good idea of who's bedroom it is by various means.

I'll WTFM before I do any more updates on this.

Ste, Jordi:
Collections, Yep I'll look into that.
I'm going to have dresscode signs and access doormats at some point, so hopefully they can go into the same collection.

When will people get this?
It's the "Dogs Bollocks", or the "Cats Whiskers".
Not the Kittens Bollocks.

Updated - 6 more doors  Grin

I was kinda half joking and just wondering... why fish? Am I missing something?

Product Branding  Wink
I was trying to think of different words for a key that were small.  I thought too long, so decided a fish would do.

Does that mean they have separate GUIDs?

Yep, actually each door model has five.  They're registered so they shouldn't cause a conflict.
This last upload has sent my brain to jelly, I feel like I've been doing nothing but cutting and pasting GUIDs for a week.
There's a lot more jiggery pokery to do as you need to link the two related door objects, and then fiddle with wotsits so that they will all live happily in one package.

Ahh... ok. Totally awesome! So... back to the maid thing... basically you are saying that maids don't really need keys (well, at least maids that are on the job) since they can bypass locked doors. However... just to be sure, you answered saying locked but did not necessarily say private. Since private turns rooms into blackholes that are blinvisible to Sim telepathy, does that mean that maids won't know to clean up those rooms, if they need cleaning.

The sims are only blind the the objects behind the door when they would have access blocked.  So your maid will still see your messy beds when 'on the job' as she passes as an NPC.  She won't see through a private door when just visiting though, unless she passes another test.

Alternatively... what if I want to block the maids, such as the case where I'd prefer they not waste time climbing up and down stairs just to Make Beds, which seems to have a higher priority Roll Eyes than actually cleaning up dishes, puddles, toilets, tubs, and counters. Tongue

Hey, cool idea.

OK, lets assume you have set 'keyholders' mode and given keys for the bedroom to your sleeper sims.
Now switch to 'custom'
Either toggle/disable the NPC checking.  Now no NPCs (bar a few specials, Reaper, Bunny, etc.) can enter.
Or, Give your maid a fish, and set it to Halt Fishholders - for just that specific sim.

Remember, with the custom access mode, you should be able to read around the menu in a clockwise direction looking for the first check that matches your sim.
The first test that matches - results in an immediate Pass/Halt.

Ahh... thanks for clarificating that. I wanted to ask what gali meant by that... but since someone else understood, I figured I was just too dumb and didn't want to bother exposing myself. Grin *brain fart* Er... excuse me. I guess privatizing doors won't block sim telepathic jealousy?

The jealousy emitter travels through walls.  What would it look like if it had to open doors ? Smiley
The 3's a crowd would be handy if your cheating sim wanted to make sure the aother half didn't accidentally wander in when they were entertaining.
You can cut down the jealously to 'room only' using casual romance, or use LizzLove's bed to turn it off completely.
This is just one more tool in the safe WooHoo asenal Smiley

Thanks for the questions, I'll be reading back through these when I WTFM some more  Roll Eyes
