126  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Has anyone run across a hack like this? on: 2006 May 05, 00:02:57
What amuses me is I've noticed that some elderly sims, primarily romance, pleasure and married family, seem to constantly roll a want to woohoo in their last couple of days.  Even after they do, the same want rolls right back.  Guess they figure they better get it in while they can, or want to be sure they get the drink and the hula girls. Smiley

Definitely noticed that lately as well. One particular pleasure/knowledge couple will never lose that want ever, so I let them go at it to their hearts' content, particularly since I won't have to deal with any more kids from them, heh heh.
127  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Has anyone run across a hack like this? on: 2006 May 04, 23:27:38
Mine notice move-outs, but not deaths.  Undecided They cry afterwards, because it's a red memory, but they never 'Cry Softly' anymore when the Reaper is there.

Yeah, I just finally, finally am getting some elders to die of old age now who I started as toddlers when the Sims 2 first came out last year whenever it was, and when the husband of one shuffled off this mortal coil, his wife didn't even run out to see, she just kept eating away and chatting happily. Roll Eyes With the other one, her lover didn't even get a death memory, though one of their visitors did; her other ex-lover in the house was sad but I got a 'react to dislike' memory since he'd caught her cheating a couple times (I think that was from Pescado's 'enemies get a green death memory' hack). His memory of it ended up being red, though.

Plus, the good memory of the inheritance seems to cancel out the death memory, so they barely cry and then it's on to dirty jokes. I really wish the bad effects of a death memory could be amped up to the level of the custom Inteen miscarriage memory - if they had a good relationship with the dead, anyway. I'm about to start a neighborhood civil war story full of factions and enemies, but it'll suck that they'll hardly notice Tongue Oh well, I'll like it.

Though speaking of elder deaths, has anyone else noticed a random family member always seems to come in uninvited on that day? I've noticed this with both of the recent ones, and I'll have about twelve more to observe shortly Tongue
128  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Why are you crying now? on: 2006 May 04, 22:57:56
That WTFness is why I love the Romance mod even though I have to do workarounds occasionally to go on with the story. I've also noticed that Sims don't get furious over witnessing cheating anymore thanks to the mod, or maybe I've just had them be -too- discreet? I don't miss the trashcans getting kicked, but it was kind of nice to see them getting mad on behalf of their cheated-on relatives.
129  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Has anyone run across a hack like this? on: 2006 May 04, 22:39:52
I've been having trouble getting my Sims to notice anything lately - deaths, move-outs - one too many hacks, I suppose. It was kind of cute at first, as I recall, but I can see how it's annoying when they drop everything to go wave...
130  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I just had to share this on: 2006 May 02, 17:26:18
I just had that happen for the first time the other day, too. Never saw it before then!
131  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Change Iris + A Useless & Stupid Request on: 2006 May 02, 17:22:11
LOL! God, I thought I was one of the only people who didn't hate Sims music, some songs the have on the stereo I actually don't mind listening to. The buy and build mode music I don't mind, on low volume though. Tongue

There's a couple of stations I really like, especially the "College Rock" one, but I've gotten tired of the limited number of songs by now so I tend to turn the whole thing down and listen on my headphones to my own music now. I miss how you could just put shortcuts to MP3s into the folders in Sims1, instead of the whole file - I like to keep my music in one folder, not spread out into the game folders, and anyway I lost a lot of the MP3s when I reinstalled the game (silly me thinking it would be left alone) so I'm not going to do that again Tongue
132  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sims, birds, and bees on: 2006 May 01, 18:17:45
If the gossip memory is good, maybe having them brag about it instead?

I know I just looove seeing a Sim's teenaged daughter congratulate him on cheating on her mother...
133  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Something I Noticed on: 2006 May 01, 18:11:10
I've only dated playables and occasionally they'll bring gifts, but only if it's a Great date, not a Dream Date - they only bring flowers then! It's gotten to where I'll end the date at Great if I want a present out of it and not just the damn flowers that get deleted cuz I'm sick of looking at them. Tongue
134  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Has anyone else seen this want before? on: 2006 May 01, 18:07:38
Didn't TwoJeffs have to make a hack to even allow teens to use it in the first place? Odd that they'd get the want, then... though of course, I'm not surprised by the unfulfillable wants, one of my adult Family Sims is getting the wants that an elder Family Sim tends to get - retire (which he can't do), have a family reunion, get a grandchild (okay, he can get that one), etc...
135  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Romance mod issue - am I the only one? on: 2006 April 12, 20:50:41
Swiftgold, if you don't want to take the mod out altogether, there's a workaround I've found: the hot tub. If you can convince the Sims to develop a crush on each other, they stop rejecting flirts, but obviously you can't get them to develop a crush without flirting. But it seems like the mod ignores the hot tub, for some reason; it's possible to get them to cuddle and kiss, and then the little pink hearts appear, and bam.

My game is often very weird, but that seems to work. Maybe it'll work for you too?  Smiley

Thanks, I'll take a look at the hot tub as well. The problem does seem to be establishing the crush, though at least without a commitment involved it's a bit easier to get around when you want to!
136  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Romance mod issue - am I the only one? on: 2006 April 06, 19:37:21
I don't think that's normally how it happens, but perhaps he already has something of his own, or was simply cranky?

He might have had a love, but nothing steady, and he was platinum and my controllable Sim... I'm now recalling that adults going steady isn't a Maxis default state either, I think it was held over via hack from when they were teenagers. Just being in love also seems to do it - experimenting last night, I had one Sim attempt a flirt with another and had it rejected because he was in love with some other Sim; I selected him, and had him flirt with her instead, and voila, crush.

Another case I was sure wasn't going to work did - two Knowledge Sims, one married and the other with some loves, did the 'caress hands' flirt at the table and instantly fell in love with each other. Considering how much I had to work around to get the Sim going steady to accept a date, I was kind of surprised that a happily married one would cheat so easily with this hack, but since it's what I wanted, I won't complain.  Wink

It sounds like you don't have the no-random-flirt package that goes with this installed. They sorta go together.

I do indeed have the no-random-flirt wants - but Daiv is a Romance Sim, so I imagine that's why he still got the want.

Quote
There's no way to distinguish, since hostile NPCs also run at user priority.

Ah, so that would be the problem. Wonderful, Maxis. "Don't want to force" the players to make the Sims to go to college for a LTW, but you'll "force" them to fall in love with a random NPC if the relationship's high enough.

Quote
Considering you seem to be taking issue with the flagship feature, maybe you don't really want it. Tongue

Heh! Well, for the majority of the couples I have, I do - early on most of my Sims cheated and I kinda got tired of that. It's just the hack preventing me when I decide I want them to. But, que cera cera, I'll just do a workaround, then. Especially if the table flirting really isn't affected by the mod (assuming my Knowledge Sims weren't a fluke), then I'll just use that to establish the love/crush. I've never seen any Sim do those table interactions autonomously.
137  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Romance mod issue - am I the only one? on: 2006 April 05, 22:56:12
Yeah, the going-steady as adults thing caused some more weirdness when it came to a group of Romance Sims I had in one of my dorms. All were in love with each other, except the two who were related, two males and a female. One of them kept going crazy when the others were making out, and she was going steady with some other Sim. When he caught her cheating and they broke up, there was suddenly just approval amongst all the Romance Sims. Of course, Romance Sims probably shouldn't be going steady anyway, heh, but the boyfriend wanted it, so...

Otherwise things pretty much work as they're supposed to - the threesomes included, as long as all are in love with the other two. It seems fine when there's no commitment involved, which I suppose is the point, yet often enough Sims commit and then I want them to stray, hence the above complainy whiney thing of mine, heh Tongue I haven't seen that the various levels of chemistry affect anything with the Romance Mod as it currently stands, though I could be wrong!
138  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Romance mod issue - am I the only one? on: 2006 April 05, 20:37:29
Hiya - I was having an issue with the current Romance Mod, and I was wondering if it was 'as designed' or if it's just me. The mod is great, of course, even though I don't have all that much autonomous flirting going on, for the whole "no slapping members of a legitimate couple, you mistress you" thing. However, it seems to prevent cheating even when I want it to occur, which is sort of a pain.  Undecided

Example: Moss and Ariadne have been going steady since teenagerhood and are a rather boring couple with one bolt. However, Ariadne and Tristan have three bolts and I wanted to get them together. So, Romance Mod installed, I had him try to ask her on a date. She refused, because she was going steady. Well, fine - I used a hack to select Ariadne, and had her try to ask Tristan. HE refused, because she was going steady?? I eventually had to summon Moss downtown, have her break up with him messily, and then she could go on her date. It kind of got really convoluted for something that I wanted to be a spur of the moment "hey, hi!" thing Tongue

Current annoyance: Devin and Theresa are teenagers going steady with three bolts. Devin is kinda creepy. Daiv is a geeky, cute Romance Sim who really really wants to flirt with Theresa and fall in love with Theresa. I eventually want her to realize Devin's creepy and the geek is cute! Or, at least give him some lovin' on the side - buuuut I can't indulge him, because she always rejects him thanks to the mod; I'd have her initiate the flirting, but he'd probably reject her (despite what he wants!) thanks to the mod. This would be fine if it was all autonomous and I didn't want it to happen, but...

Anyway, I guess what I'm asking is, is there any way to keep the rejection of autonomous flirts and allow user-directed romantic commands? I love all the other features of this mod, but since I don't have that many autonomous flirts (and if I did, I'd like them to work, since I like letting them "choose") the whole "you can't cheat if you weren't cheating before commitment" is preventing me from doing what I wanna! Tongue
139  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: No Plat Grave for my poor grilled cheese simmie on: 2006 April 05, 20:21:36
Tongue Understood. That's one of the reasons I don't play that goofy aspiration. As funny as it is, it gets irritating after a while. Of course, I don't think it was intended to be played through a full life cycle but I may just try it some day.

Maybe he/she could run a grilled cheese resturant. Wink

It always seemed to me that it was so easy to get them into a high aspiration with Grilled Cheese so you could use the orb again and change them to what you were intending to in the first place before it failed - that is, if you wanted to...
140  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Whenever I refer to a toddler flirting, I'm actually joking on: 2006 March 16, 19:34:42
I've noticed some odd wants, too. I have an adult Family Sim, 10 days to elder (finally, I'm trying to catch him up as he's next in line to age). However, he's having some odd Family Sim wants I've only seen in elders before, like to get a grandchild or have a family reunion - he even got the want to retire, which I couldn't even fill because he's still a good ways from elder. Grr.

Also, if you take some Sims to an owned business, I've found they can get some random stupid wants to fire/promote the employees of that store, not that they even can because they're just customers...
141  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Phantom music in OFB on: 2006 March 16, 16:52:18
The only way that I know of to change the music for those, is to choose a different speaker.  Each one is a different color because they only play one station.  Or...if you want to be able to have the normal stations, just pull the speakers off the walls and put in a normal stereo.  Just dont' accidently mark it for sale. Tongue

I'll have to try that, then. I just hope the really ugly checkered one isn't the music I want Tongue I'm just used to those speakers piping music to a different floor/outside in residental, so that seems kinda weird, but ah wel...
142  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Now my business owner gets a free MP3 player.... on: 2006 March 15, 17:33:45
I've seen this in NL, too. The only toys I ever give my Sims are cellphones, but one of my recent Uni grads now randomly plays with the handheld every five minutes, and I sure didn't buy it for him. I took it away and sold it Tongue
143  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Phantom music in OFB on: 2006 March 15, 17:32:05
I usually keep the steros and things playing alll the time so I have music to listen to, and I've noticed after installing a new EP the stereos will be off everywhere, but the music will still be playing. I just turn them on again and then I can change the stations once more.

What I'd like to know is how to change the stations on community lots where the only apparent "stereo" is the speaker! I nabbed the flower shop from the Bluewater in my test hood (didn't want that area in my real hood) and set it up for one of my Sims in the hood itself. Anyway, there's a speaker there and music's going, but I can't change it and didn't choose it, so it's getting annoying.
144  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Too many grilled cheese memories?? on: 2006 March 11, 23:58:37
Maybe instead of counting the individual sandwiches, more like how the Fortune LTW Earned 100,000 is, as it only gives a memory for increments instead of spamming us with every 5 simonleons earned. Ate 20 Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, etc. I don't know if it's hackable, but it just seems like Maxis should have done it that way to begin with, especially considering existing memory spam problems.
145  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Post problems you've noticed, on: 2006 March 11, 16:49:42
Simmiecal, I had this same problem with NL - there was no one on my downtown lots but Crumplebottom when I visited, and with debug mode on I got the Lot Populator error. I don't have many townies, only playables, and a few townies I made in CAS and turned into townies with the shrub. I wish I could remember which hack was causing it - maybe it was notowniechildren which isn't apparently needed anymore... but it was definitely an older hack. Whatever it was, after I removed it, the lots populate fine with all my playables, and I still have the nodormie, notownie and nossregens in. Maybe check to see if it populates okay without hacks in, or at least none of the non-OFB-approved?
146  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: More dumbasss weird stuff on: 2006 March 10, 01:14:12
I have seen other shots of the 'neat Sim' bubbles stuck to Sims before, so it seems like it's something of that nature, to me... wish I knew more, but frankly I'm just laughing and trying not to Tell a Dirty Joke...  Grin
147  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: "boolprop" Phobia on: 2006 March 10, 01:11:06
I've messed around with it some, and I've encounted the clothing tester errors, etc. The only thing that continues to hang on because of messing around is on one lot when I clicked that 'group conversation tester' or some sort of thing and now on that lot only I get a pie menu option to *Talk, with the asterisk there, and it doesn't do anything. Otherwise it's been useful enough, but I usually use Insim instead.

After OFB actually I had the testingcheats on and a Sim was abducted - it gave me an error message when he was returning because there was a carpool car waiting, and after clicking Reset, he showed up in the middle of the lot suddenly, with red in energy and hunger. I quickly 'fed' him so he wouldn't die. He never got the abduction memories either. When SimPe is working again, I'll fix that, since he's a knowledge Sim...
148  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I thought that patch made cemetaries possible on: 2006 March 08, 22:23:48
Hmm. I had that same problem pre-first patch also, but it's working fine for me now, or at least pre-second patch, pre-OFB, as I just killed off a couple Sims I was sick of and sent the stones to the Gothier Greens in the downtown. Arranged graves in build mode, and it's fine. But it did originally do exactly what you're saying after a fresh NL install without the patch.
149  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Unfillable wants on: 2006 March 08, 20:56:16
I noticed the Soak in Hot Tub want would never fire in NL, either. They'd sit there in it forever and the want would never go. I wonder if that got fixed...
150  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB - If you could turn back time on: 2006 March 07, 21:22:39
Oh and Switgold, I also have a gold badge in internet multitasking. Wink One of my coworkers came over to my desk one day and said "How can you work with that many windows open?"  Grin

Many of mine don't understand the concept of having more than one program open at once - I'm sort of the technical person here, and they're older and didn't grow up with computers like I did. I guess I kind of use that to my advantage, though they let me because I also get my work done. I think I'd literally go nuts if I had to stand at the register and wait for customers, especially the slow season like now. Luckily I do mostly packing and shipping right now anyway. Grin [/OT]
