101  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Why The Hell Are You In My House? on: 2006 February 09, 19:11:33
I have to wonder if aspirational level has anything to do with the tendency of a Sim to invade other lots.  I have a former Uni cafeteria worker who is married to Brandi Broke, but I don't really like him, so I tend to ignore him completely when I play their lot, other than the occasional half hearted attempt to get him to electrocute himself.  But he is constantly near or in aspirational failure.  He has walked into 3 of the last 4 houses I've played (the 4th was downtown so maybe that disuaded him).  He walks in, goes to play with the toddlers, and if he comes by when a meal is being served he helps himself.

Actually, I lived in a split level for twenty years when I was growing up.  Walk in the door and go up or down.  At least in the area of the US where I live, that is a split level.  I've never heard the term split-foyer before.
103  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Getting the husband to take his wife's name on: 2006 February 08, 22:43:25
It must be the marriage-traditional hack.  Because it has always been a playable female sim asking a NPC or former NPC male to marry her.

Thanks for the help.  I guess that hack will be coming out of my download folder.
104  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Getting the husband to take his wife's name on: 2006 February 08, 22:20:34
I was under the impression that it was possible to get your male Sims to take their wife's last name when they married.  Is this incorrect?  I have tried it at least three times, having the woman propose marriage to both resident and non resident male sims, yet they always take their husbands name.

Especially in the case of legacy type founders, I'd really like the family to keep the name I gave the female founder.
105  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does This Sim Scare The Bejesus Outta You? on: 2006 February 08, 19:08:51
You know, I think this Sim truly demonstrates what my mother always said.  You look prettier when you smile than when you frown.  I think all of the pictures of her are much better when she's smiling.

Alexander will take over the family home once he has been through college in my game, but then, since Cassandra is married to Darren Dreamer, and Brianna (Mortimer and Dina's daughter) is still a child, I think it only makes sense.

Dina had an affair with Don right after Mortimer died and got pregnant.  Her hunger plummented overnight, and when she got up the next morning and set the stove on fire making pancakes, she died before I could make her eat the burnt pancakes.

I created a CAS sim, Gabrielle AuPair, a knowledge sime and moved her into the Goth house so I can send Alexander to college without Brianna being taken by the SW.  Once Alexander(Family) and Lucy(Knowledge) have graduated, they'll move back into the Goth house and marry.  They have 3 bolts, and I was happy to read that they make pretty babies.

I haven't decided whether I'll continue to use Gabrielle as a live in nanny, or give her her own home.

A few months ago TwoJeffs posted a link to a site that would scan your system and tell you what you have, but I am going to need to find the site again so that I know the speed of my current RAM.

Crucial.com? I'm not sure if it's the same one, but it sure saved my ass when I started upgrading.

Thanks Ashleigh, that was it.  I remembered Crucial, but wasn't sure if there was more to the name or not.
108  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: New Open for Busioness Video 1/05/05 on: 2006 February 03, 16:45:10
I have to admit for the last week or two, I have been obsessively searching out everything I could find on Open for Business.  I was origianally planning to wait a month or two after its release to get it, but now I can't wait.  Though I am going to have to give serious thought to whether I want to install it right away or wait until some of the essential mods from this sight have been approved OFB compatible.

Syberspunk, from what I've read, I do believe that the shopping district is going to be optional, just like the DT sub neighborhood, because they have stated that your Sims can purchase any existing community lot whether it is in the main neighborhood, DT, or the new shopping district.

How I put that was unclear.  I have a total of 512 MB RAM split between 2 sticks or cards.  There are a total of 4 RAM slots on my motherboard, and my understanding is that I need to use at least 2 of the 4 slots and the RAM will run at the speed of the slowest card so I need to be sure that I match the speed of the current RAM that I have.

This thread couldn't have been posted at a more convenient time for me.  I have a year old computer with a Pentium 4 processor and am planning to upgrade my RAM in the next couple of weeks.  I know that currently I have 512 MB ram in 2 sticks(?) with 2 empty slots available for upgrade.

My question after all of that is do those of you who are more knowledgeable about these things, think I will notice a difference in how my game runs if I upgrade to 1 or 2 GB of RAM?  (If I am remembering correctly my system will allow up to 4 GB of RAM).  Currently my game only lags slightly on large lots with a lot of stuff on them.
111  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Cash Flow Statements on: 2006 February 02, 22:50:04
Does anyone remember in Sims 1, you could click (or maybe right click) on the family account balance and a nifty little cash flow statement would pop up, showing 2 columns, the current day and the past 3 days.  If this option in available in TS2, I haven't discovered it yet, but there are times that I really would like to see where money has been coming from and going to.  If anyone knows how to access this information in game, please share.

I was able to get townies and dormies regenerated after deleting all characters.  Thank you to each of you for your help.

What is the cheat I need to enter after I type "boolProp testingcheatsenabled true" to create townies, etc.?
114  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Deleting all sims question on: 2005 December 24, 02:21:21
Forgive me for digging up an old thread, but this seemed to be the topic that most closely addressed my current situation.  I just started a new neighborhood that I am using for a new legacy (fourth attempt, no successful completions yet  Undecided).  I deleted all characters and sent my founder to Uni.  I've got dormies and SS members and NPC's, but when I send her downtown there are no townies or downtownies.  Did I miss a step?

I tried creating a random CAS Sim and moving him into a house in the main neighborhood, and in the first day there was one teenager who walked by and then the welcome wagon which consisted of only 1 Sim.  And when I send him to a community lot there are again only NPC's on the lot.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have just this week added some contacts from this site:  http://www.lyran.net/ts2/  into my game and am very happy with the way they look.  There are also some piercings on that site, but I haven't downloaded them so don't know if they have eyebrow piercings or not.  Look under Makeup - Misc.
116  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Anyone recognise this outfit? on: 2005 December 07, 17:12:47
What I find most annoying about the Celebrity Chef uniform is that you get all of the variations in your wardrobe, but do not have the ability to select which one you want your Sim to wear.  At least I apparently don't have that ability.
117  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What the hell is wrong with the nanny?! on: 2005 December 05, 17:27:14
I had a nanny abduction just last week also.  I have Uni and NL and the patch installed.  The mom was on maternity leave with a toddler.  The nanny showed up even though the mom wasn't going to work, and when she was dismissed, she picked up the toddler and left with her.  I exited, saving the lot and when I came back in the toddler was lying by the mailbox, but neither the mom or the dad could interact with her and she was behaving like a baby.  I went into SimPE and she was marked as being a baby.  So I fixed it in SimPE.
118  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Romance sim wants to marry off 6 children? on: 2005 October 13, 15:59:23
I created a YA Sim who was Romance and his LTW was to marry off 6 children, now I'm intending him for a Legacy founder, so, um, NO.  But at the end of his sophomore year I rerolled his aspiration and he is now a Family Sim with a LTW to become a celebrity chef.  I was happy all the way around, he will be easier to keep happy and his LTW will be much easier to fulfill.
119  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Family was not able to clean up food anymore on: 2005 October 06, 15:49:03
I've had something similar happen since installing Nightlife.  I reset my game after installing NL, deleting all of the premade neighborhoods, and only have my one custom neighborhood in the game.  I had just installed Inge's hack to refill the fridge automatically.  The first house I went in to play had just a single Sim, and I was no longer able to direct him to clean up dirty dishes.  Like you said, I had to let them sit until the maid came in.  I exited the game, removed the fridge hack, but could still not get that Sim to clean up the dishes.  During that play session, I had him invite his girlfriend, a downtownie, to move in, and I could get her to clean up the dishes.  I've since moved them into another lot back in the main neighborhood, and can now get him to clean up dishes.

After reading your post, I am thinking it wasn't the fridge hack, but I don't know what else may have caused it.
