Title: Something strange in "Add/Remove Programs" List Associated With TS2
Post by: Baa on 2005 October 16, 00:11:21
So I came to notice that my computer was full of junk and did a routine clean up. You know, the usual organizing my documents, my picutres, and my music folders. And then I went to the control panel to Add/Remove programs to uninstall useless things I had once decided to download for whatever reason that is obsolete now.

Anyways, I get down to the T's and see this a program called "thesims2?????????" with NL's icon.

What in the world is it? It said I last used it today. I didn't play NL today.

However.. late last night I did do some filming, but I honestly can't remember if that was past midnight or not.

Here is a picture:

Hmmm... this post made me check my add/removed programs list. I don't have that one. Is there anything weird in your Programs folder?

I didn't find any... I checked a ton of folders in the TS2 folder and nothing..

This is strange.

That is strange. I notice from your picture that there is no file size, and the icon is the NL icon. Don't know what to make of that, though.

edit to add: oops. Reread your initial post. You already noticed it was a NL icon. My bad.

How about in your registry? Try HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

I just looked at mine, and I don't have that either, but I just played NL last night and my Add/Remove programs says the last played date is 10/1/2005.

Good old Microsoft.  How can you make a game work without bugs on a faulty system like windows.

You obviously don't know how add/remove programs works. The data is complete guesswork for all cases where the application developer hasn't chosen to add the registry strings Microsoft expects here.

You can hardly speak of a bug here.

I had a tiny bit of oddness too.

My icon for Makin Magic, which I haven't been able to uninstall through add/remove programs because I don't have disk 2 anymore   ::), has been replaced by the Nightlife logo.

Me, too.  Especially since the sims games obviously do modify the registry.

I don't have that entry, but I did notice that my program sizes are slightly different to yours.  My original TS2 is bigger, but my expansions are smaller.  TS2 is 2823 MB, Uni is 925 and NL is 1286.  Must be because they're different language editions, I suppose.  I don't really know what the differences are size-wise, but minimal by the looks of it.

That was totally trivial information, but I felt like mentioning it.  I like trivia.

Mine basically agree with yours except I STILL haven't received NL!

My apologies to Amazon and the Post Office - dropped through the door five minutes ago!  But would have been nearly a week ago if not for all the trouble with changing the Validity date on my debit card - need to change it from Switch to Maestro too, and for some reason I didn't get the option.  In the end I had to cancell the order, cancel the debit card, then reorder and enter a new (ie my only) debit card.  Why the girls on the helpline didn't know i needed to do that beats me!

Now I have to decide when I stop playing my game, move all my saved games out so I can install NL and see what it does!

Guess what!!  Ive got that too!  I just looked and there it is!   Somebody's computer has been spying on the other! ;D and copied!  I have no idea what this is.  The only thing I have done today is go to the BBs.  I would take a picture but I dont know how or am incapable of it. But I did notice that the other ones just show when I last played that version and this shows when I was last playing the sims.i

Mine doesn't show anything like that, but as I said, I haven't installed NL yet.  I just have Sims2, sims2 University, Sims1 and Sims1Houseparty, which is what I last had of sims1 running on this machine!  so maybe it's something to do with Nightlife and what it does to your registry?  Or maybe it's the patch?

Haven't installed the patch.

Waited to see if anyone complained about it like they did when the original patch came out.

You wouldnt believe the whining about the patch. Personally I like them.  No more evil remote control Dr. Vu cars. ;D

The entry we are discussing in this thread was what I was referring to when I said that it might be the patch.  I never said that it was either good or bad, only that it might be the reason for this odd entry in Brynne's Add/Remove Programs, since I don't have the patch installed, or Nightlife, and the entry does not appear in mine.

I have the patch and don't have that entry. *shrug* Windows is weird sometimes. I can't imagine what caused that.

And for what it's worth, I haven't had any issues with the NL patch but of course YMMV.

YMMV? ???

Just thought it might be windows way of showing the existence of the patch!
