Let's have a slightly open competition this month.  The theme is What the FUCK!
Please nominate objects, accessories, clothing, makeup, building materials and any other object that just makes you go WTF?.  We want to see stuff with no purpose, things with no value, things you can't imagine why anyone would put in the game.  It doesn't have to be ugly, it doesn't have to be broken, just as long as it makes you tip your head sideways and frown.

This isn't just an ugly, weird, uncomfortable and slightly impossible-looking bathroom. It's a pay ugly, weird, uncomfortable and slightly impossible-looking bathroom! (It's peggysims2, by juice, first page of member bathrooms.)

The bathroom isn't the nomination, though - just the rug. I mean, look at it. I'm sure many people have one of those rugs in their home - you know, the one where the corner always folds over, or the middle bunches up, and it annoys and/or injures you whenever it does this. But why does someone want one in their game? It's not even some fancy animated rug that is flat and then trips up and kills sims who walk on it or something. It's merely a perpetually crumpled rug, and I just can't understand why :(

(The miniature bath towel would be my second nomination, though. Even if it's a hair towel, it's still pathetic! Especially in such a huge bathroom.)

I had to laugh when I got to the lower end of the Wiki entry, where they talk about the tree they used to hang the cones in and how they'd tell the children when the tree bore fruit (the cones) it meant it was time for little ones to start their first day of school.

That's not useless. That's the headpiece for a minaret. Granted, it's lacking in texture, and it has been simply dumped on the floor unceremoniously, so you might not recognize it, but it has value. Just not presentation value, apparently.

One word settles it all: WHY? Exactly what purpose is served by this waste of space? Why was this even approved? It's has no decorative value, all it does is showcase an inept creator's ability to saw the bottom off a mesh, something a blind chimpanzee could do, and it has no additional functionality.

I know nominating a feeEssen creation is like shooting fish in a barrel, but this is just odd looking.

It appears to be a trailer attatched to only half of a pick-up truck with great big horse heads plastered on the hood and to the strange piece sticking out of the top. It is decorative only, which is just as well since half of a truck probably wouldn't tow a trailer anyway. Oh did I mention it comes complete with horse's rear?

Yes, but even still, it doesn't demonstrate true WTFness. It has a defined sense of purpose, and might even be useful to someone. It's badly implemented, but the CONCEPT is sound.

My parents have a toilet that looks almost exactly like that.  All the plumbing bits are apparently built into the wall, so the seating apparatus hang on the wall.  I don't trust it.

I don't blame you. I refuse to use them and if asked I'd refuse to flush it OR gently place a basket/candle/etc on the back of it. My theory is if it hasn't got feet, it's only a decoration.

New meshes bypass the queue. They don't have to be approved, sadly. I think many of FeeEssen's items are proof of this.... Some folks are hip to this fact and will click "new mesh" in the upload wizard even for recolors and try to skate by unnoticed.

There's no reason half a truck can't tow a horse trailer. Ever pay attention to one of those big trucks on the highway? You aren't losing power or anything, because the engine is in the front. I could actually see this for a country theme. I've seen these before in real life, complete with horse's rear. And while it may seem dumb to you, IMO, it isn't CRAZY or WTF (okay, maybe the stupid horse pictures all over it, and the way the cab has 4 wheels instead of two).

I can't see the point of any lot, for any reason, having a horse carrier with a horse in it standing in the driveway 24-7.  But yes, it lacks a certain WTFness.

Maybe it would help if there were a more solid definition for WTFness....

ok, so I failed to grasp the definition of WTF in this case. Though I can see the point of wanting a horse trailer as a movie prop, personally I would want said prop to attempt to look genuine otherwise I wouldn't bother. I live in a rural enough area that I see plenty of the real deal and any single horse trailers I've ever seen have always been hitched to a regular old pick-up and have been completely devoid of strange pictures.

BTW that TSR billboard truly is the most pointless thing I've ever seen, who would ever pay for such a thing much less download it for free?

On a lark I downloaded the Angel and the Devil "fornicator" chairs waaaaaaaaay back. This was before there was a SexySims2. Gales of laughter prompted Silly Wife to come run in here and see what was going on with me, only I couldn't talk as I was too busy dying over my free-will-off sims *squirming* in the chairs to actually turn free will back ON and allow them to quit.

..didn't help that at the time, both were neked.

Edit: I would LOVE for the eye tree to actually do something! Does it remind anyone else of the eyebush of Labyrinth? It was some kind of fungus or climbing vine that seemed to be everywhere.

The eyeball plant reminds me of this old DOS game I played as a kid- Cosmo's Cosmic Adventures. I thought it was the most awesome game ever. You were this little alien kid, and at every level, there were tons of purple eyeball plants. They would blink at you, and you would get bonus points from blowing them up.

Fine!  How about this one then?  jmtmom over at modthesims2.com made kids with down syndrome.  Now, I have nothing against people with down syndrome, but these Sims do nothing except LOOK like they have it...which I think is pretty damn weird.

I don't mind the Down's Syndrome sims, keep the skills low, teen/elder jobs, high outgoing and probably romance sims, don't make them smart, yeah, why not? I'm teaching some adults with Down's Syndrome next Wednesday and I'm looking forward to it.

Sorry but the Down's Syndrome sims made me lol..I have nothing against mentally disabled people but that is so totally random.

Tongue rings do exist, however they are extremly rare because
1. they never stay in place, they always twist sideways, making it look incredibly goofy, especially when leaving an imprint
2. You shouldn't get tongue piercing jewelery extending over the tongue itself, because you WILL bite down on it and you WILL get chipped teeth from that over time.

My biggest issue with the downs sims is that they don't really look all that much like they have down's.

I mean, the pedalling action isn't touching the pedals. Same for the handlebars. As for the skateboard, why is she doing the chicken dance/birdie dance? Surely that ain't good for her balance? I am 600% certain that a "Wheelie" doesn't exist IRL.

I think the reason that people enjoy FeeEssen's and Rebecah's objects so much is because the two creators  make lots of stuff for babies/toddlers/children.  Since the Sims game doesn't have much for these age groups to do, players are STARVED for anything different, no matter how craptastic.   Rebecah's objects are sort of cute though, while FeeEssen's are just plain scary.  That table and chairs set of hers is going to give me nightmares.  Thanks a lot, Invisigoth!

rebecah deserves points, both for creativity and honesty.  Most creators don't bother showing people how bad their animations look.  She is a very talkented coder (unlike feeessen who just makes breaky chairs and potties), and people who dare to make things that look horrible to pave the way for people who refuse to release anything that isn't perfect.

The only real problem I can see with Rebekah's objects are the sim animations. Either she's taken stock animations from the game itself (like the skateboard one), or she's tried to do her own with a lot of guesswork. The real shame about it is that if she could get the animations right, these objects would be really good (well, except the wheelie - I haven't a clue what that one's about at all).

That wheelie thing looks like a poor attempt at a Segway.

Considering how difficult it is to work with animations for the sims, I'd say she did a decent job. Most custom animations look like crap, but I see that as just one of the limits of modding for the sims. I like it when creators attempt it at all.

well if the result is shit, they should just abandon that project. Going "well, it sucks but I'll upload it anyways for stats" is not the right way imo. I'd never upload halfassed CC

It's not halfassed though, is it? If you're a modder who's into code then you're not going to worry about graphics and animations. That's for someone else to work with. That's why this work is uploaded - so someone who isn't into code can take on the graphics side of things and together they can make a good product.

Well, yeah, but that's what *I* would do. Some people have no shame when it comes to actually releasing crappy work.

I don't think it's crappy, since this is really the best possible with a custom animation for the sims. Frankly, I wish more creators would try it. I'd rather see an animation that still has some quirks than an item with no animation at all. I feel like it's expecting something beyond the limits of what we can do with the game engine.

It's like haiku. Ya can't shove a limerick into 5-7-5.

I've deleted my share of my custom content in various games when I was "finished" because it didn't meet my expectations. I've deleted hours of work and started over. If other people just say Fuck It and upload it anyways, they shouldn't be surprised to find their stuff in here.
Some people just do that. Some even get payed for it, that's just how the software industry works these days. Deadline hit but your product still sucks? We can patch it later, now sell it.

As for the eyeball tree, I would love it if it were an end table. It would go well with the resurrect-o-thingy (Lilith Pleasant-Broke is in the paranormal carrear). The Duck potty "for your pretty toddler" reminds me of that peggysims whore clothing submisson "happy childrens day". Tongue rings... well, thing is, it's quite useless in the game as they don't open their mouths THAT much. I aggre about pes' idea of the PMBD prop vs. the TSR bilboard. I'm still laughing about the eyeball tree nanny idea... and rohina's comment I think SimSlice's Huge Psycho Head Doorman is more likely to scare those damm towines OFF my lots than GREET them (sorry Emma, but Goops IS a townie). The sim in that pic does look scared out of his wits.

Most of the things in this thread fail bigtime at meeting the stated criteria -- especially rebecah's stuff, which is largely perfectly normal, whether you approve of her level of expertise with animation or not. (I think some of it looks worth downloading to decide whether I like it and some of it doesn't.) There's nothing WTF about children's rideable toys which mostly resemble real-world children's rideable toys. (Oh, and the "wheelie" looks EXACTLY like the picture posted by the person who requested it -- the request thread is linked right at the top of the post, it's from a video game.)

Many of the items posted thus far are also intended to be weird, and therefore serve a purpose for people who want weird neighborhoods or weird families. Some of it I've downloaded or bookmarked, because I am interested in sci-fi landscapes (eyeball tree), urban dystopia (homeless guy -- actually, I have a large collection of grungy/trashed/industrial district/high-tech but seedy/etc. content just for one project I'm toying with), goofy Knowledge Sims (couch car -- totally looks homebuilt by a crackpot inventor), and so on.

Not that I can think of a good WTF to share, mind you. Maybe if I browse around some; I know I've seen things before (besides FeeEssen, who doesn't count) that just made me say "WHY?".

I think the severed boob decoration is a pretty big WTF :P.

I've seen classic car boots turned into interesting couches before. Those with "fins" work best.

It's the kind of furniture I enjoy looking at when I see it in other people's homes or businesses (probably few people actually have these in their homes), but don't have a desire to own and try to decorate around in my own place.

Currently on PMBD, several posters are freaked out about a pixel pirate doll toy that can "shoot" pixel smoke puffs from pixel pistols at pixel toddlers. Would that be a WTF? If so, is it the concept or the execution? Or is it because it is a pay item from TSR?

Eyeball sculpture FTW.

I could actually see a use for the eyeball sculpture, though.  There's a D & D legacy that is really good, and the author makes his own CC (it looks a lot better than that), but he had a Beholder sculpture that he used as a prop for one of his stories.  Photoshopped in correctly, it looked great.  The eyeball sculpture looks a bit like those aliens from *Life of Brian.*

I mentioned the TSR billboard because it seems like getting "KICK ME" tattooed across your ass, but I suppose there could be a use for that, too.

Most of these items fail as WTFs, yes. Either because they're deliberately intended as quirky or weird, or desire to emulate, even nonfunctionally, a real item. A true WTF is like that sawed-off terlet. THAT was clearly made, not as a desire to emulate any real item, but simply because some dood want to show off his utterly useless milkshake "creation" by sawing the bottom half off a Maxis terlet. It's not a technically excellent accomplishment, nor does it have any particular decorative value, because it's simply a Maxis item cut in half!

My biggest "wtf" is about people who price things absurdly low. I usually delete those immediately; I have to really love something to bother opening SimPE and changing the price. Why would anyone want a $10 double bed? Also, don't $0 floors and walls plummet the environment rating? I have fortune Sims to think of, and for people who want to cheat, there's always motherlode.

Absurdly high prices are just as bad--a bread basket cloned from a vase that costs over $300 is a little steep.  :P

Morphing Sim faces onto pictures of celebrities is called "simmerizing" and people over at S2C have been doing it for a while. It's just a picture, people don't play sims that look like this.  I thought they had a post with simmerized pictures in their pictures forum but I can't find it now. There is a tutorial -- http://forums.sims2community.com/showthread.php?t=30334 (http://forums.sims2community.com/showthread.php?t=30334) -- on how to simmerize from December of last year though I'm sure I saw simmerized pictures way before that.

$0 tiles can actually be useful if you are trying to get rid of money via tile method, and you are running a pre-NL game without the familyfunds cheat. Basically, you place a bunch of expensive tiles, then cover them with $0 tiles, and then delete the whole thing. This way, you don't get any money back when you delete them.

Meh, the game already has a $0 floortile, no need to place more.

The §0 floortile doesn't show any puddles which makes the environment rating go down. If they are just freshly placed the score is ok. Just don't use them in places where there are likely to be puddles forming such as kitchens, bathrooms etc. Mind you I never use them-feels too cheaty for me. Mine are all §1 :D

All my floor tiles are at least $2. I've got plenty of $20 floors and walls. I bump the prices up for a lot of CC I download. Money is so easy to come by. Besides, I don't like the weird cheaty-ness of the bargain basement prices, and I get super tired of using the same old Maxis crap when I want expensive stuff.

It does rather tick me off that no one ever puts the prices or motive scores of items in download info. I still find that hard to get my head around; I'm used to modding communities in which everything important is spelled out and in which gameplay is of paramount importance.

That's because most people don't KNOW the motive scores of the crap they're editing, or if they do, their understanding of such is grossly flawed and thus their results would be equally worthless. The vast majority of the modding community consists of the "look what I made!" smacktard with no sense of craftsmanship. They are without honor.

I've a few floors/walls unhidden from the catalogue in my game: the sidewalk concrete and the brown deck flooring are definitely 0§. (with "unhidden" i mean, out-commented "notincatalogue" in /scripts/floors.txt (don't recall the first bit of the path .. something like c/program files/ea/ts2/res/catalogue?))

When you say "their understanding of such is grossly flawed", does that mean the catalogue descriptions of EAxis things are wrong as well? I know one must go through a somewhat complex process to get comfort to work correctly, for instance -- are there other motives that are similar?

I believe that is undeniable proof that TSR has no standards.

Scary dress was only submitted last week which makes it completely unforgivable as skinning has moved on somewhat since the early days - even your basic 'how to' will teach enough to create something presentable. Unfortunately, it also disqualifies the entry as it was posted after the start of the contest.

I don't think we should have this "posted before the start of the contest" rule. If it is posted by the end of the contest, IMO, it is fair game.

I think that rule is mostly to prevent blatant cheating.

If that rule were not in place, someone would make something horrible specifically for the dubious honor of winning. It makes no sense, of course, but you know how *F*s are.

F's would be totally afraid that someone would find out they were cheating and cry. The attention-whore thing is an E thing, and should be trumped by the F.

I did not get why it was nescessary to make that mesh, is all. All the recolors will only show to those who GET the mesh, even though it would have been perfectly acceptable to create it on the mesh that came with the base game. And I already know TSR is teh debil, no need to remind me. They got my $40 back in January, before I dicovered PSMBD. :-p

May I suggest having a look at previous More Aweful Than You! competitions? They should all be easy to find in the Planet K 20X6 board. The results will be in the last page or so except, IIRC, May where the topic was closed after serious derailment. Have fun, some of the competitions are great to read (if you're into that kind of thing).
