Title: Windows acting seriously weird... Anyone come across this before?
Post by: Gwill on 2007 August 05, 13:09:59
My downloads folder (and only that folder) has suddenly decided not to show filenames in thumbnail view.
In tiles, detail, icons or list view it shows normally, but in tumbnail view, it just shows a tumbnail of the files/folder with no name or description:

I've fiddled with every windows setting I can find, but nothing changes.  Re-naming the folder restores it to normal, but then of course the game doesn't recognise it.
It's not something I can't live with, but it's annoying as hell, and I really want to know why the hell this suddenly happened.

:) Enter another user account ( make one if you haven't because you can always delete it if you don't want to keep it ) and see if that user account has the same problem or not . If it doesn't then it may be that you have a corrupted user registry  :-\

Try holding down shift as you switch between views- holding shift as you enter thumbnail view will switch off filenames.

Thank you!  That did the trick! :D
That also probably explains how I managed to bork it up in the first place.  I seem to remember it happening when I was trying to open a folder in a new window, which is accomplished by holding down shift and double clicking.  I must have clicked somewhere I shouldn't while I had the shift key down.
