Title: Sim Music Extraction? I can has a music?
Post by: nekonoai on 2007 June 25, 15:10:45
I know it's possible to extract the music from the games, but what I want to know is HOW??

I tried poking around in Simpe, but I just couldn't figure it out. Does anyone have any instructions on how to do this?

There should be some directions here.  It took me a while to figure it out, though.  Once I did, it was easy.

You can extract the music as MP3 files from the appropriate sound packages in the core game files. You need to go into the Sound folder for each EP you have if you want all the music (each EP adds new channels). In SimPE, you right-click on the file you want to extract in the Resource List, and choose the Extract option.

Of course, your file name will just be a long string of numbers, so you'll need to go into the game and listen to each track in the Audio panel in the game controls to find out the song titles.

Music from later expansions has ID3 tags encoded,  so that you can find out titles and artists by playing in any audio software, such as WinAmp, iTunes, or Windows Media Player.

Correction: everything other than the base game has ID3 tags, with the exception of the music in splash.package, which is a .xa file, and as such does not have the tags stored in it for any expansion.

Usually simply rename any of music packages to .mp3 extension and open with any Audio editor(WaveLab or Soundforge or Audition ..)where you can cut, split and save any piece as serarate file with .mp3 or .wav or any accessible formats you want.
Also you can downld .xa to .wav converter here: http://theothersite.250free.com/thesims/progs/xantippe.zip
