Title: Custom CAS, Seasons and you
Post by: liegenschonheit on 2007 June 12, 18:24:20
Well, maybe not YOU but ME and ME is more important than YOU anyway. Right?

Anyway. Here's the thing. Custom CAS screens created in Seasons have a bug in them that make created sims freeze and unfreeze over and over during the creation process. Quite annoying. It is unrelated to roofing, or any building type things, since it has been tested in completely enclosed lots with roofs and the whole nine yards. It looks like the only way to make a working custom CAS with seasons installed is to use Numenor's Base Game Starter, load the original game, make your CAS and then export it to your Season's game. It's kind of an annoying pain in the ass, and if you want to use any EP content in your CAS you're SOL.

So, can anyone more awesome than me tell me if this is a problem in the code? Can it be fixed with a hack, possibly?

Pescado was looking into this glitch a while back but as far as I know, no solution has been forthcoming.  :/

How exactly does one install a new CAS anyways? I've never known, and I have a strict policy on, "if you don't know, don't use it," but I've never cared enough to investigate it.

Drop it in Downloads, remove it when you don't want it anymore.  Easy as pie.  :)

Didn't Pes say custom CAS screens are a VBT because they don't get various controllers stripped properly (for instance, stray animals coming in to visit, and so forth)?

Actually it's more like, custom CAS screens made with Pets installed might in theory be a VBT for that reason.  There's been no documented cases of a Pets-built CAS causing a game to explode, as far as I know; I checked my own neighborhood files after I started having strays wander through and saw no signs of junk memories or other borked files.  Which is not to say it can't happen; it just hasn't been confirmed at this time.  Fencing off the lot and/or manually stripping out those extra controllers also seems to reduce or eliminate the stray problem.

Anyway, AFAIK there have been no problems with CAS's built sans Pets or Seasons, and Numenor's base game starter does seem to be an acceptable workaround for those who have them installed.

Yup, because I scared everyone with the possibility that your sims might meet one of these visitors and then, if the sim is discarded instead of saved to the neighborhood, the visitor's memories would be corrupted.

Pescado said it was "possible" but not worth the time it would take to test.

I don't use custom CAS lots myself... never saw the point of them.

Same here, I just felt like asking. Because knowing is half the battle.

Blah. I hate complications, I was hoping someone would just say 'here is a hack you couldn't find because you are not awesome' and then I'd go along my merry way. I suppose if it isn't worth investigating I'll just have to install the Numenor thing and deal with it.

The point of a custom CAS for me is that I spend a lot of time taking screenshots and stuff in there, and I hate the maxis plain brick fugly thing. That's about the only reason, really.

For my CAS screenshots, I got the gimmicks that make the photos on the wall and the circle on the floor to disappear. So I could photoshop several shots onto the brick background without having to erase the picture frames.

Have you checked out the custom CAS's at MTS2?  You might be able to find one you like already made.

Nah, I like to make my own, I have never bothered downloading other people's CAS stuffs. I already have a really elaborate halloween looking one, but I wanted something different, so I shall have to get off my lazy ass and do it :P
