Title: No SP content showing up
Post by: Venusy on 2007 January 24, 10:23:07
Basically, I just got a new hard drive. And decided to move the TS2 directories in Program Files via the worst method possible: cutting and pasting. Now, I've managed to get around the fact that the game no longer knows where the former Program Files directories are by using a Sims2.ini file (quoted below). The only problem is that no SP content is showing up (except for the Holiday stuff). Any ideas of how to fix the problem without reinstalling?

Quote from: Sims2.ini
[Directories]
ep0dir=J:\Games\The Sims 2\The Sims 2
ep1dir=J:\Games\The Sims 2\The Sims 2 University
ep2dir=J:\Games\The Sims 2\The Sims 2 Nightlife
ep3dir=J:\Games\The Sims 2\The Sims 2 Open For Business
sp1dir=J:\Games\The Sims 2\The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff
sp2dir=J:\Games\The Sims 2\The Sims 2 Glamour Life Stuff
ep4dir=J:\Games\The Sims 2\The Sims 2 Pets

I thought the game writes entries into the registry?  I may be wrong, but I thought it did.  I don't think you can do this with out reinstalling, but I am not 100% sure.

It does. The problem is, seeing as my registry no longer points to the games, I've had to use a work around that EA left in the game, the Sims2.ini file. To clarify, everything added by expansion pack works. It's just the stuff pack content that's borked.

Anyway, I have an idea: the game might not recognize the spXdir format, so if I rename sp1dir and sp2dir to something like ep8dir and ep9dir, then it might work.

EDIT: OK, this worked, but I am now playing some sort of hybrid game which identifies itself as "Sims2EP4.exe" and "The Sims 2 Pets" to task manager, but displays the UI of Glamour Life, see below. I think I know how to fix this one, but the effect is weird.

Very weird :D If it was me, I'd backup my neighbourhoods and downloads folder and reinstall. Better safe than sorry IMO ;D

Yeah, it just seems that it is taking more time to try and figure out a work around than to just reinstall.

Well, you could attempt to modify the registry by hand, but if you aren't experienced with RegEdit, I wouldn't do that...

Well, I've completely fixed the problem now, so I may as well lock the thread.

For future reference: the last EP/SP installed must have the highest number in the Sims2.ini file, otherwise you get weird results like the one shown below.

EDIT BEFORE LOCK: I already tried modifying the registry, but that didn't work. Also, the registry won't help if I try and play the game on any other computers (the new hard drive is portable).
