Title: Is there any harm in waiting before moving a tombstone to another lot?
Post by: nikita on 2007 January 14, 06:53:11
I've noticed a pattern (ok, it's only happened on two lots so far) where the lot becomes corrupted and crashes upon entry and the only link is that someone died on the lot and then I kept their tombstone/urn for a day or so before moving it to my community lot grave.  I can't think of any other reason as to why they became corrupted save for the usual, "shit happens" theory.

Anyone with any insight?  ???

Tombstones are not the culprit. The thing which usually crashes lots on load is cellphones. Make sure no sims are using a cellphone when you save your lot, or it will crash on load. If this happens, you'll have to crowbar it, depending on your usual pattern of cellphone behavior. The most likely thing that will cause a cellphone to be out on a save is the AutoYak: To resolve the lockup, remove it from your hacks, load your game, and the offending sim should reset as his phonecall object is yanked out from under him. Then save, quit, put it back.

If you were using the "Call Sim" functionality, you'll need to use the cellphonerst (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/spec/cellphonerst.package) package to crowbar your phone. It functions similarly by breaking the call object, forcing a reset, and enabling the lot to finish loading.

Interesting.  I don't use the AutoYak.  So I put the cellphonerst in my downloads folder.  Load the game, load the lot, save and quit and then remove the .package file from Downloads?

Yes. You're certain you WERE on the phone, though, yes? Because without the AutoYak, you'd probably know if you were on the phone...so you believe the phone may be at fault?
