Title: More hidden music in Pets Post by: jrd on 2006 December 18, 23:27:17 Just an FYI: Like NL before it, Pets includes some hidden music in the differing locales, all in the Pop genre. These songs are all by the original artists and are in Simlish.
Danish: West End Girls - Suburbia Dutch: Krezip - Can't You be Mine Finnish: Roni - Never Coming Back French: Kisha - Sowieso German: Kisha - Sowieso, Krezip - Can't You be Mine Italian: Finely - Run Away Japanese: West End Girls - Suburbia Korean: West End Girls - Suburbia Norwegian: Lene Marlin - What If Russian: The Smokebreakers - Baby Let's Dance Spanish: La Oreja de Van Gohg - Dulce Locura (sic) Swedish: Lene Marlin - What If, West End Girls - Suburbia UK English: Finely - Run Away, West End Girls - Suburbia Just open <PETS>\TSData\Res\Locale\<Locale here>\Sound\Pop.package in SimPE and extract the audio resource(s) to the My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Music\pop folder to get all the music that is on your HDD anyway. Songs that appear in multiple locales are identical, no need to extract them more than once. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: dizzy on 2006 December 19, 00:35:37 /me wonders how much they had to pay EA to get this gig ;D
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: jrd on 2006 December 19, 00:42:39 I only know about the Krezip deal, apparently they were approached by EA (not the other way around). The artist or group gets some more exposure, EA gets some more advertising… I suppose that is also why these songs are locale-locked. Buying a song for the Dutch and German markets must be a lot cheaper than buying it world-wide.
Not a bad haul though, 8 more songs. NL had more (15) but I ain't complaing ^.^ Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: OpiumGirl on 2006 December 19, 02:46:58 Hey Jordi,
Since this is a relevant topic, could you possibly tell me how to extract the ones from NL as well? I have never even heard of this... It'd be mighty nice. Thanks so much! Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: CyberOps on 2006 December 19, 05:18:24 Is it possible to make a package with all the hidden music from all expansions ?
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: Orikes on 2006 December 19, 06:51:28 I didn't realize there were locked up ones in Nightlife easier. I'd like to get them in the game, but not quite sure I feel confident enough to muck around in SimPE for this.
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: jrd on 2006 December 19, 08:37:53 I can't offer these songs for download as that would be piracy. You have them already, just extract!
Nightlife's hidden songs are all in the House mix category. Look for them in <NL>\TSData\Res\Locale\<Locale here>\Sound\HouseMix.package -- just open in SimPE and extract to My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Music\House Mix NL songlist is Annie: Heartbeat Annie: Chewing Gum Christian Forss: Hubny Harb (That's How It Goes) Andy & Lucas: Madre Andy & Lucas: Mi Barrio Victoria: Cry Jeanette: Run with me The Faders: Jump The Faders: Whatever It Takes Timo Maas: Sims 2 Theme remix Lux Spencers: O blay wobba zoon (All I Want To Do) Adam Freeland: Busy Musikk ft. John Rock: Summer Lovin' Hyper: Sim the Builder Junkie XL: Sims 2 Uni Theme remix Cansei de Ser Sexy: Gabloodip neep (Computer Heat) The ID3 tags will tell you which song is which. I don't recall exactly which locale contained which (German has the Annie songs, Spanish Andy & Lucas, UK English The Faders, and Lux Spencers and Christian Forss are in the Scandinavian locales). If there's interest I'll post a more detailed list later when I get back home. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: jrd on 2006 December 19, 08:47:07 Oh, and since all music works the same way you can easily extract all songs in the game and put them on your iPod or whatever. Just go to <GAME PATH>\TSData\Res\Sound\ where GAME PATH is the base game or an expansion, and extract the music you want from the packages. All songs are in MP3 format, and have their artist and song name in the ID3 tag.
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: OpiumGirl on 2006 December 19, 08:50:52 Great, thank you for the info!
I don't actually want to "listen" to it ;) Only in the game. (Just had to have that known) ;D Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: dizzy on 2006 December 19, 12:33:10 All the tracks *since Uni* have ID3 tags, that is. ;D
Here's a list of the base tracks: Code: 3.2M build1-Sim Builder.mp3 4.1M neighborhood-The Sims 2 Theme.mp3 Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: CyberOps on 2006 December 19, 16:03:26 Do you have to extract them or can they bu used as it is ?
And if not could not a hack/mod be made to make them active ? Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: kewian on 2006 December 19, 16:37:35 Do you have to use simpe? Because im looking at it right now .... could i just copy the file to the appropriate location?
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: jrd on 2006 December 19, 17:50:40 You have to extract them. The .package is a wrapper around the mp3 file, so the file structure is changed and audio players (including the audio libraries in TS2) can't read it.
How hard can extracting be? 1. Open SimPE for Pets. 2. Click the Open button. 3. Browse to the package (path given earlier in thread. Use "Open in Pets" if you don't know where your Pets is ::)). 4. Right-click the "mp3 or xa Sound file" resource(s) 5. Choose extract. 6. Choose path. Hardly rocket science… Mods can't make this work. The game is designed to look for the files in base+locale (or base only for US English), so it will ignore anything in other locales. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: Orikes on 2006 December 20, 03:30:37 Do I run the danger of duplicating songs if I accidentally grab something that's already in my pop music folder?
Sorry for being dense about this Jordi. I've actually been wanting to get the Sim songs on my iPod, but wasn't exactly sure how to go about doing it. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: kewian on 2006 December 20, 03:47:50 You have to extract them. The .package is a wrapper around the mp3 file, so the file structure is changed and audio players (including the audio libraries in TS2) can't read it. Oh I know it shouldnt be hard. Ive never messed with simpe before though. it looked just like a package file is why I was thinking it would transfer over. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: numaari on 2006 December 20, 04:30:21 How hard can extracting be? Hardly rocket science… Apparently, I am an idiot. I can get SimPE as far as #4, but when I try to right-click, no menu pops up. So I can't choose extract, or any other option, as there aren't any options. I DID reinstall SimPE to see if that could have been the problem, but it wasn't. I can find the "mp3 or xa Sound file" listing ok, but that's as far as I can go. Crap. I would have loved to put these on my mp3 player to confound my co-workers. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: miros on 2006 December 20, 04:47:00 Maybe I can clarify: You left click on the resource type in the left column, then right click on each resource in the right column.
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: CyberOps on 2006 December 20, 06:24:01 Just wanted to say thanks, i managed to extract them with simpe.
Interesting program that simpe anyway, now if only i could make my own hacks with it lol Anyways thanks. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: jrd on 2006 December 20, 08:27:17 Thanks miros. True that :)
Orikes: there's no risk in extracting songs TS2 already knows to access, it will not conflict. I have extracted all Pop, Techno, and House Mix songs so I get audio warnings that songs were found twice, but TS2 simply plays the songs and only lists them once. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: CyberOps on 2006 December 20, 09:10:34 Jordi could you tell me where i find those techno songs then ?
Already got the pop and housemix Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: jrd on 2006 December 20, 09:31:36 Same place as the other soundfiles.
%The Sims 2%\TSData\Res\Sound\ Techno is Techno.package IIRC. Dizzy has the titles and filesizes a few posts up, just match filesize to title :) Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: numaari on 2006 December 20, 14:51:28 Thanks, miros (and Jordi)! I just don't use SimPE for much of anything, so I had most of the options hidden/closed... working now!
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: Marhis on 2006 December 20, 15:53:23 Thanks, I didn't know of this :).
Orikes, don't worry: when you extract the songs, you have to name them in the usual dialog window for saving files, so unless you'll name them exactly the same, no overwriting. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: dizzy on 2006 December 21, 01:05:50 I don't remember Nightlife that well.
Code: housemix01-The Faders - Jump.mp3 Looks like there's 8 tracks in Pets: Code: pop1-Lene Marlin - What If.mp3 At least, I think that's correct. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: Qwiggles on 2006 December 21, 03:59:08 Okay, I'm joining the not-quite-so-sure-but-I-gotta-try-this group. I think I've extracted an audio resource correctly. So do I end up with a SimPE packed file and an XML document after extraction? And unless I changed the name of the file, it would be named with a bunch of numbers?
Then I tried to go into the game's audio settings to check if the new song ended up in the Pop list. But I don't think so... The only other way I could think of looking for the song is playing all the pop songs from the stereo except that I don't know what these songs sound like. Well, I guess if someone can confirm that I've got the right type of files in my My Doc...\Pop folder, I'll trust that I do have the new songs. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: Insanity Prelude on 2006 December 21, 04:04:47 Does OFB have any hidden tracks?
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: jrd on 2006 December 21, 08:18:42 No, only NL and Pets have hidden music. I checked all the expansions and SPs as well as the base game.
Qwiggles: you should have ended up with a {hexadecimal string}.mp3 file and an XML file. Delete the XML file, and rename the mp3 file according to its ID3 tags (right-click it and read its properties on the last tab), or according to the lsit provided by Dizzy. It is probably best to extract the resources one-by-one. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: kewian on 2006 December 21, 16:40:19 Thanks Jordi. This was my first venture into Simpe...so I was petrified of touching it. But it looks correct so I have you to thank for getting me to finally work with it. ;D
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: witch on 2006 December 22, 02:42:28 It is probably best to extract the resources one-by-one. It sure was - I got my tits in a right tangle, till I stopped trying to do it all in one hit. :D Thanks for this information Jordi. I'm planning on playing these tracks whilst people are visiting and see if anyone notices they're in simlish. He he. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: Qwiggles on 2006 December 22, 03:44:26 No, only NL and Pets have hidden music. I checked all the expansions and SPs as well as the base game. Delete the XML file, and rename the mp3 file according to its ID3 tags (right-click it and read its properties on the last tab), or according to the lsit provided by Dizzy. It is probably best to extract the resources one-by-one. Finally got it! I was renaming the darn things while I was saving/extracting them and for some reason the files didn't become mp3. Aagghhh... I have no clue what I'm talking about! But all's well... I'm gonna go listen to 'em now. Thanks again. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: Assmitten on 2007 January 11, 22:53:50 I have a dumb question--why do you have to get at these through SimPE? Is there no other way--can't you just access them through your folders somehow. Thanks.
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: dizzy on 2007 January 12, 05:30:56 You could use dz_utils (ls and extract), but that involves using the DOS box. ;D
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: Assmitten on 2007 January 12, 18:05:11 Oh cripes. Thanks. I think I figured out how to run DOS on XP once to play Ultima 5, but I don't remember. :D
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: jsalemi on 2007 January 13, 03:15:48 Oh cripes. Thanks. I think I figured out how to run DOS on XP once to play Ultima 5, but I don't remember. :D Open the 'Run...' dialog in the Start menu, type in cmd, hit ok. :) Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: virgali on 2007 February 14, 15:40:14 This is so cool. The Official Dutch TS2 site promoted the Krezip song pre-release of Petz, that is, you were able to download it if you paid a small fee. I was going to look for this song since I've been extracting musicfiles since uni to put on my ipod but forgot all about.
This is great, I'll be extracting the hidden ones first thing tomorrow! ^^ Greets, Ali Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: Strangel on 2007 February 15, 08:52:35 Okay.. I must be doing this wrong.. In Housemix, I got the following:
Adam Freeland - Busy Junkie XL - Sims 2 Uni Theme Timo Maas - Sims 2 Theme Hyper - Sim the Builder In Pop... Aly & AJ - Chemicals React (heard it ingame BEFORE this) Kristen Dez - Come On Come On Isabelle Huang - Hit it Saving Jane - Girl Next Door The Pussy Cat Dolls - Don't Cha (heard it ingame before this as well) ...am I missing something, or doing this wrong? Should I be checking ALL the folders for Pets & Nightlife? Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: Hegelian on 2007 February 15, 09:46:58 ;D I have to say I'm baffled as to why anyone would want to listen to any of the music that comes with the game, even in the game, let alone on its own. I go to great lengths to assure that I don't have to hear any of the Maxis-supplied music, ever. I don't know how to replace the karaoke music (or if it is even possible), so I never let my sims use a karaoke machine. (I almost never let them have a television, either.) ;D
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: Assmitten on 2007 February 15, 14:01:23 NOw that I have discovered the wonder and the glory that is the Skillinator, my Sims don't really have time for TV. But once and a while I'll want to place one. I assume you know about this tip:
http://www.modthesims2.com/article.php?t=76126 I hate the TV on the Sims. I don't own one IRL either. My Sims are either on the computer or reading a book, like me. ;D For some reason I like the kareoke machine. "OOOGY OOGY OOOH!" Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: dewshine on 2007 February 22, 10:55:20 I also dug through Glamor Life and found the following:
Cut Copy - Future Hot Chip - Colours Hot Chip - So Glad to See You Ralph Myrez and the Jack Herren Band - Boombox Breakdown Touchstone - Simpatico They are Techno songs that I assume install in all games. But what I really wanted to know is what country did you find Cansei de Ser Sexy: Gabloodip neep (Computer Heat) because I cannot seem to locate it. Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: jrd on 2007 February 22, 12:58:28 Cansei de ser sexy should be in some South American version: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sims_2:_Nightlife (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sims_2:_Nightlife)
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: vcline on 2007 February 22, 13:13:16 I noticed that the College Rock station is playing more tunes than before I installed FFS, GLS, Holiday and Pets (all of which I got for Christmas). Does that have anything to do with these hidden music files?
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: jrd on 2007 February 23, 05:49:07 Nope, that's just the new stuff from Pets. You won't hear these hidden music files unless you use their locales, or extract them.
Title: Re: More hidden music in Pets Post by: dewshine on 2007 February 23, 11:54:09 Cansei de ser sexy should be in some South American version: <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sims_2:_Nightlife> Sweet, thanks Jordi. This is a very informative thread. I didn't know that SimPE could extract .mp3 files before reading it. |
