Title: A request: pets go to work automatically
Post by: Venusy on 2006 December 13, 18:17:55
Does anyone know if a hack has been made that lets pets go to work without sim intervention?

You mean getting the job in the first place?  Because mine do get into the car by themselves when it's time.

I did mean getting into the car, as they don't seem to do it automatically in my game.

Still, I suppose that if they do it in your game and not mine, then either my game is just borked, or something non-awesome is conflicting. Bugger.

It might be one of those mood/personality things then.

You do?

I have the Awesome job fixes and I was able to get several pet jobs.  Two even managed to get promotions (and then promptly passed out because they were up all night!)

BTW, is there any way to get pets to sleep on some kind of cycle so they won't go to work tired?  Mine seem to sleep whenever they want which means they sleep and wake at all hours of the day and night.

I've never had a pet not go to work.
In fact, I've not found any way to prevent them.

Lock them in the house.

You can call in to keep your pet home, but otherwise pets always automatically go to work unless you've deliberately blocked the route, by locking the outer gates against all pets, for instance. Awesomespec House design now stipulates the need to create a front-wall fence to prevent wolves from digging up your yard.

You can have cheats start up with your game?? Explain?

And what ever became of Mike Inside?   He hit the ground running but seems to have fizzled out.

Then they dig holes on the subway across the street, and still destroy the Environment score.

Better solution is 2Jeffs Visitor controller!

Subway? Huh? I have no idea what you're talking about, and they most certainly have never dug up the other side of the street. I actually see them giving up in frustration.

My lot will look fine with a crappy Environment score -- then I zoom out or spin the lot to look across the street -- and there's the hole and pile of dirt on the grassy strip between the street and sidewalk!

I still wish I didnt have to turn off cc. just to get a job for the pets.

Monique updated her "Work bring friend dialog" mod and Pinhead needed to update his "moveout teen" mod so the job option for pet would appear on the newspaper and computer.

Maybe you should take a look at MTS2 to make sure that all the mods you have are updated for pets.  Once I updated those 2, the job menu for pets reappeared for me.

My pets automatically get in the car when the carpool comes for them.  Only once did a pet not go, and that was at Cyd Roseland's house when he was gone to work, and his dog was very hungry, and a message popped up saying, "I'm not in a very good mood to go to work today.  I think I'll just be lazy and stay home instead."  There was plenty of food in his bowl, so I directed him to eat and sent him off in the carpool to work.  :P

Just to check before I do something monumentally stupid, would this work in finding the conflicting hack?

1. Copy the Pets objects.package to Downloads.
2. Run Paladin's tool (Sims2HCDU.exe)
3. Wade through the mass of conflicts caused by the hacks in my Downloads folder conflicting with objects.package, until I find something conflicting with Pets - Go To Work.
4. Delete both the offending hack and the cloned objects.package.

Yesterday I had a dog in the last stages of pregnancy who missed her carpool because of some sort of (temporary) route-blocking problem.  Less than an hour later, she gave birth to her pups.  That makes me wonder what would happen if you sent a pregnant pet to work and she was at work during the time she was supposed to give birth.  Would she come home and give birth on the sidewalk just after getting out of the carpool?

I seem to remember some people on here saying that is what happened to their pregnant pets.  They came home and gave birth on the sidewalk.  :-\

Pets also won't go to work autonomously if their needs are too low. Or if the route they WANT to take to the freaking carpool is blocked, despite their being other routes available.  ::)

I know this is a slightly belated response to this thread (12 days?), but I'm going to take a chance since I did not get the evil skeleton alerting me that this thread was too old to post in. :)

I've read a whole lot about problems with Pet jobs.  I only very recently tried getting one of my pets a job, and for some reason, no carpool comes at all.
I have the option to find a job for my pets and everything, but after days and days of waiting, the carpool has never come.  Not once.
I've been digging through posts here about pet jobs and their respective problems, but don't see this one around.  It's probably because I waited too long to actually get one a job...so my problem is likely ancient news by now, lol.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks!

When that happened to me, it was Dizzy's Sitter hack for OFB that wasn't updated for Pets, but I had left it in.  Others have mentioned having problems with old versions of Pescado's noagediscrimination hack and Jase's hack that does the same thing by letting elders get adult jobs.

Thanks for the response...
I actually don't have any of those hacks in my game, unfortunately.  Though, it seems that many things may be prone to cause issues with Pet jobs.
If anyone else knows of any other hacks that cause this issue, I'd love to hear which ones.
I'll be trying to track it down, but if anyone has more ideas to give me a head start, I'd be deeply grateful.
Thanks very much. :)

See if you have any old hacks that may not have been upgraded for Pets.  You can probably eliminate FFS hacks and TJ's hacks as long as you have the most current ones, as they have been thoroughly tested by Pes and TJ and most other people here.  Try taking out groups of hacks and see if the carpool comes.  That's what I did.  I saved a few hours before the carpool was due to come and then I'd wait and see if it came, then exit without saving.  That's how I narrowed it down for me.  Also, make sure you don't have any duplicates.

Check for some hacked custom PCs as well. For some reason these can interfere with the carpool apparently.

Monique is good at updating. But any non-updated custom PC may throw conflicts.

Sorry, only just saw this. I was talking to Mike a couple of months ago about souls, he said he doesn't play the sims anymore. I believe his forum is still active and his site, as you know, is still hosted by MTS2. I still often refer to his building tutorials.

Hey, in case anyone's interested in knowing, I fixed my problem with the Pets' carpool not showing.
I don't know exactly which file was causing it, but I removed all of Inge Jone's institution hacks (I never updated them) except for the prisoner token which I use along with TJ's Visitor Controller.  Now everything is working again...

As for Monique's computer, since it was mentioned.
Does anyone know if this works with Pescado's Global clothing tool file?  I remember way back, I was only able to use the computer or the global clothing tool if I wanted to shop online with the computer.  For some reason Monique's "shop for clothing online" option would jump when used in conjunction with the clothing tools global package. Just curious if anyone knows if this has been fixed?

Anyway, thanks for all of the advice!  I'm so glad to have it fixed, because now I know how retarded Pet jobs are!   You'll all be happy to know that I am no longer in the business of exploiting my little furry friends for money.

I use both Monique's computers and Pescado's clothing tool, actually keep both on every lot, so the most recent versions should play well together.  I use the clothing tool to eliminate ugly age transition outfits and update appearances, and the shop at home option on the computers to satisfy the "Buy new clothes" want when I don't want to take the time to send them to a community lot.

Glad to hear it!  I've missed being able to immediately alter the sims appearance after he/she ages....They end up wandering around in hideously mismatched clothing until I get around to playing them...it's traumatic...really...
Thank you for letting me know. :)
