More Awesome Than You!

It seems as though the pets and NPCs in my game can't use some of my old custom objects. For the most part, this isn't a problem. I don't want animals climbing all over the furniture anyway. Still, I would like for my Sim to be able to wash his dog without having to buy a new tub each time he does it. How can I update a tub for The Sims 2: Pets?

Also, this isn't a big deal to me, but maids won't make custom beds.

And finally, is it normal for a pet to forget all its training once it steps on a community lot? One of my sims has a dog that's a perfect angel at home, but loses its damn mind everywhere else. Eating flowers, running around crazily, snapping at strangers...the works! And yet the dog has full green bars for all of the appropriate learned behaviors. I don't get it.

ETA: I hate the wolves so very much. All they do is upset every dog in the neighborhood. Sadly, the no strays patch doesn't work on them either. I really wish I could get them from showing up. My sims live in a major city! Hell, I've never seen a wolf just hanging out in Brooklyn, so why are they wandering around brownstones in my game? Arrrgh!

I'm sure with twojeffs visitor controller you can ban wolfs from your lot.

 Actually I'm waiting for some bright creator to make a pet usable tin washtub. I don't really want to wash the dog inside, using the same tub the family uses. No one I know with dogs does that.
Having to rearrange my houses so the tub is dog accessible is a pain too.

Actually, my family does. We have three "small" dogs (at least by maxisEA terms). One just happens to be half the size of the other two. Then again the dogs all sleep in my bed with me too.

We did.. in various years, we had a german shepherd police dog, a papered dalmation, several large mutts and one Great Pyr (big mistake, that.. lots o' hair in drain!).

Doesn't work on bathtubs.  Maxis changed the mesh.

Same here. I've just been adding a standard tub outside or in the garage to every house with a dog, and it works just fine in getting the dog washed, and seems more realistic than messing up the Sims' bathrooms. Only 'glitch' I've had is that occasionally the Sim who just washed the dog will decide that bathing in the garage/outside will be just fine for him/her as well. ::)

Now that I think about it, I could have sworn that I saw pet grooming stations in the previews for Sims 2: Pets. What happened to those? That would pretty much solve the whole tub problem too.

I think a couple of those were for the console version of the games, which was meant to be similar to Nintendogs and a couple of other games like that. Not for the PC version we all play.

I haven't been playing for very long, what does the wolf look like, is it a brown dog with flourescent yellow eyes? Because a dog like that comes around a lot to a couple of my sim houses, my simmies like to play with it too. :)

Ooooh! I would have imagined some different interactions with them. But then again, my sim doesn't socialise enough to get bitten. I'm relieved. :)

"No strays" patches will not work on wolves because wolves are not strays; they are in fact NPCs.

And there's more than one wolf, though there's only one LotP.  The wolves are kinda distinctive-looking.

I did, but haven't used it yet. I don't have a real problem with Sims doing dumb things, so long as they aren't potentially dangerous. It usually just cracks me up. :)

TwoJeffs' visitor controller will block strays, pets, wolves, and skunks.

On the subject of bathing dogs, I'm not sure if people are aware of this; dogs can bathe in the craftable water wiggler from OFB.  They do it autonomously too, and have fun doing it.  I haven't bathed any of my last three generations of dogs.

That's a good tip Gwill, i have been neglecting the OFB stuff. A dog playing in the water wiggler would be pretty cute  :)

I believe that only the "evil" water wiggler spawns puddles, Pescado.  The normal ones don't.  That is how it is in my game anyway.

I've toilet-trained the cat, now if only I could get her to stop going into the family bathroom and vice-versa...

In Soviet Russia, you do not use bathroom, bathroom uses YOU! BUY has no problems with handling cats now.

I've never had any puddle problems with the water wiggler.  All my items are crafted by a perma plat servo, so I don't get evil things.  Too bad; evil objects sound like more fun.

How about training cats to use toilet?  Any outchasingness?

BUY will not disrupt sims attempting to bathe or housebreak pets.

some of the ranchers in the mid west, tired of easterners reinstroducing wolves to the midwest, did open a bill to repopulate wolves into central park.  no doubt this is where your wolves are coming from.

The Timber Wolves are doing a find job repopulating the East Coast on their own... :)

all the canada border states yes.  but not central park...   except for that bill.  which was supposed to be real btw,  i got it from some defenders of wildlife material.

Over at the International Sims 2 Mod Community with hacked objects-- they have the cutest fire hydrant that you can put on the street and the dog goes to give itself a squirt--I love it--it comes in two flavors=just for resident dogs or for all dogs.  It's in their downloads--there are tons so it takes a while--but it is fun to look through all their stuff--unusual.  Before that, I would build a little shed outside and put a standard tub and a toilet in it.

Last time I checked, PA, MD, WVA and VA weren't border states, and we have Timber Wolves here. Some of them have been bold enough (along with some coyotes) to come into the suburbs, too.  There was a rash of small dogs killed by either a wolf or a coyote in Arlington VA late last year and early this year, and Arlington is right across the river from Washington D.C.

New York is a border state, though, so maybe the wolves will find their own way to Central Park. :)

i just had a looping problem with a cat peeing, although it had peed okay before, in a soviet bathroom i mean.  i had to unlearn the behavior to break the loop.  but the last posted change to the bathroom hack is long ago.  i used the directors cut for pets....

well im pleasantly surprised to find out there were more wolves then i thought.  of course i realize now its been a long time since it was news that they were in the border states, so maybe ii shouldnt be too surprised.

NY is a border state with fairly significant waterways along those borders. If you mean Canada, at least. To the north is the St. Laurence seaway, and to the north west is theNiagara river. Not that an industrious wolf couldn't find their way across one of the bridges if they really wanted to, but it does make it a little harder than it might otherwise seem.

Actually, on a related note, there was an incident this summer with a wild canine in central park. It might have been a coyote, but there was a wild dog hunting deer in Central Park that caused a bit of a stir.
