Title: Is it true thaaaaat......
Post by: Solowren on 2006 November 02, 02:22:38
....deleting Maxis neighborhoods is okay? I had been under the impression that this is a Very Bad Thing and would turn my game into a BFBVFS.

And stuff.

Just asking because one of the mods over at S2C (http://forums.sims2community.com/showthread.php?t=28334 (http://forums.sims2community.com/showthread.php?t=28334)) told someone that it's okay. I've been wanting to kill those neighborhoods for a while now, actually.

Or are the folk at S2C simply unaware of the BFBVFS phenomenon?

Or am I mistaken?

The world may never know.

We are not in possession of any evidence that suggests deleting Maxian neighborhoods is harmful. There are unconfirmed rumors that it may influence the townies you get in a new neighborhood, but we officially believe this to be implausible.

I deleted the Maxis hoods on my old computer and the game played fine.  When you create a new hood, it just takes the place of one of the missing ones.

I delete the ones I'm not using too.

Maybe I'm being too logical here or putting to much faith in the EA system, but even though you delete the neighbourhoods they are really still there in your programs files and this is why it's not truely affecting the running of your overall game, as they're only missing from your my documents file when deleted, but the game itself still has the reference in your program files.

Or am I way off in my unawesome way of thinking? :-\

seems right to me, Wedgetail.

The way to generate a hood without the PV townies is to delete the PV townies from the program files directories.

They are sitting there in tsdata/res in the neighborhood template files.  They are not embedded in an .exe file.  So I'd say they weren't part of the program, but a data resource the program calls on if it needs to make new hoods.  That may not be strictly right for you computer guys, but it seems like an important distinction to me.

I've never heard anyone say deleting 'hoods was bad.  Each hood has it's own folder and is a selfcontained entity.  They are not connected to other hoods, so how could taking one out affect other hoods?

Deleting is okay only if Maxis never releases a patch for it (and then still, you can grab it out of compressed.zip).
Renaming or archiving elsewhere is safe.

And prevents default townies etc. from being added to new 'hoods.
