Title: Problems with CC and Glamour
Post by: southernmom on 2006 September 01, 13:44:04
My CC disappears when I start up the game--so far the only fix I've found is to remove the downloads folder and put it back every time I'm going to play.  CC is enabled, so I'm not sure what else to do.  Any ideas?

You need to go in the game enable CC then get out of game and next time you start the game up your CC should be there, it worked that way for me.

Yeah, I had to do that too. I thought I pulled a Jelenedra or something. =p

I had to redecorate one of my houses. I haven't have problems since though.

If it's only CC recolors, could it be a CEP issue?

Try restarting your computer, some people have reported that fixed their problem with custom content showing up.

First boot of the game: No CC in houses, No CC in Catalogs.

Second boot: No CC in Houses, CC in Catalog.

I tried rebooting twice more, before I gave up and redecorated my Bachelor mansion. Other houses with CC were fine after the second boot up.

(Note, that each time I rebooted the game, I deleted the groups.cache.)

Thanks all--I had tried rebooting, and had the same prob Jelenedra mentioned.  The CC wasnt in buy mode, but some was in the houses.  I 'ploded my neighborhood and started over...all seems to be working now

On first boot of a new EP install, you should hide all your neighborhoods so that they cannot be damaged from loading without the proper CC.

I"m kinda new at using CC and hacks, so I had no clue how to fix it.  I'll remember that for another time :)

Aha, I made a backup, so I get points for that. I just didn't know about removing the 'hoods entirely during install.

Same concept as making backups and removing hoods before an uninstall I assume?

Does this matter, as long as you don't save the game on a lot with custom content missing? Removing custom content for testing purposes is done all the time, and I was under the impression that it doesn't change anything permanently as long as you don't save the game.

Whenever a new EP installs, it has to initialize the new values that were left uninitialized (i.e. zero out all the crap). Otherwise, you can get unexplained behavior from the new features of the EP. Making a backup does not make much sense in this case.

Once you have the new EP installed and have run it at least once, then it makes sense to make a backup.

Yes. Merely loading the neighborhood without your CC in place can cause things to be lost from your neighborhood, as neighborhood token data is loaded even BEFORE any lots load or save. You can see this in your neighborhood package's modification times: Even if you didn't save any games, it's still altered.

No, it does make sense: The initialization process occurs anytime an "old" neighborhood package is loaded, not merely at install-time. If your CC is not loaded at the time, your neighborhood could be damaged by this process and lose information. So you should backup BEFORE you load your new expansion pack in, and then restore that backup AFTER the expansion has been loaded and your game settings restored.

What kind of custom content would affect the neighborhood token data, and what kind of problems could it cause to load a neighborhood without custom content in those cases? I would like to know for future reference, since I always assumed it was safe to do, and I've done it myself on a few occasions (without visible damage so far).

SyncTimer and Jeffistani Romance are both known users of tokens. Loading your neighborhood without those objects available results in the loss of all tokens and associated data, even if you load no lots.

I believe that Monique's custom computers also use tokens to keep track of bank accounts, loans, and other persistent data like that. Taking them out and loading the neighborhood would have the effect of wiping all that info out, too.

Darkstormyeve, did you enable custom content in your game options and then restarted the game?

I did yes but I did the two boots and it worked. In other words loading the game twice seemed to do the trick - thank god.
