Title: telescopes and peeping Sims
Post by: nataku on 2006 August 23, 15:32:12
Now I know that when a sim uses a telescope there's a possibility of them "spying" on another sim, that other sim getting angry and coming over to harangue/beat you up. Does this also work in reverse? That is to say, if your sim is "spying" on another sim and lets say this sim has a crush or is in love with your sim and they catch your sim spying, might they come rushing over to leap into your sims arms or something equally amusing?

No. Your sims always spy on the first character created in the neighborhood. (Pleasant View = Mort Goth)

And they always get pissed about it.

And when that character dies, the next in line takes over the slapping job. :)  After Mortie, it's usually John Burb.

Well thats not very fun. Darn. I figured the furious reaction was probably the only one, but I hoped it wasn't. I didn't know though that sims only spy on the first created sim. Interesting.

Yeah, so in a new neighborhood, make sure you make someone you don't mind slapping everyone first. =p

FYI, Vidcund Curious is the Strangetown slapper -- never played Veronaville enough to find out who it is there. :)

I think it's either Titania or the old guy with the job title for a name. Consort?

I know it's one of the welcome wagon if your sims are married.

If you aren't prejudiced against the non-awesome, Squinge has a hack which randomizes who is called.

I much prefer (twojeffs? Crammy? Cannot remember right now) hack for noshoving from looking through telescopes. Your sims can spy all they want and no one will ever know.

What we need though, is a scenario where you see a townie commit a crime and you have to call the cops. Ala Rear Window.

Eh. Why would you call the cops right away? You'd need more proof than that, considering he'll be long gone by the time the cops arrive. For that, you'd want to take pictures. And then you'd have to check if he's got a reward on him, vs. how much the blackmail info is worth. Now if he had a BOUNTY on him, that might be different. But then, why are you using a telescope to scope out the neighborhood anyway? That's what your rifle scope is for. No one will shove you if they even notice you scoping them out with your rifle. No, they'll run for cover if they see that. :P

*laughs* Too true. *makes a mental note to request a rifle on a tripod that functions like a telescope for future use*

Wasn't he using a camera with a big telephoto lens in Rear Window? Or am I thinking of one of the remakes?

I may or may not be correct, but all the spoofs I have seen of that movie have been with telescopes. Mayhaps he gets the camera later in the movie for evidence?

I have not seen the actual movie [/disclaimer]

Yeah, to my shame, I've never seen the movie either.

From a quick look at a google images search, he starts with binoculars and then switches to the camera with telephoto lens.

Ahh, okay. It's probably just the Simpson's spoof I am thinking of.
