Title: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Kokopelli on 2006 July 24, 00:32:05 I went to play my game and the game will not load up. I took out cd and found a huge scratch on it.
Any one know how to get rid of it? Or fix it up? As it stands I can't play my game. (sigh) Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: bekka on 2006 July 24, 00:41:23 I believe there is a site which allows you to use a download that bypasses the need for a CD. My brother says gamecopyworld.com. It's only for those who own a copy first, so isn't illegal.
edited to fix lousy grammer. Sorry grammer police ;D Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Kokopelli on 2006 July 24, 00:55:38 thanks bekka, but that won't help me (long story as to why)
Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: bekka on 2006 July 24, 01:01:04 Sorry it won't be of help. My kids use it on the other computer so we can all play and it works great. I bought a CD cleaner/repairer at Walmart that sort of worked but if the scratch is really deep, or in the same directions as the info it won't help. After that I'm out of ideas.
Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Kokopelli on 2006 July 24, 01:15:37 The scratch must be deep for I can't even get my game to load up. the scratch is going across the CD.
Edit: Well I bought another copy of Nightlife and reinstalled again so I have to start everything all over again >:( Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: jrd on 2006 July 24, 10:23:58 In the future, try resurfacing. This can be done really cheap.
Get any kind of metal or copper polish and apply it generously using a thin cloth, in a radial direction. Continue until the level of polish is spread evenly across the surface (the scratches should be completely filled). Rinse it off under flowing water, then continue the cleaning by using a new wet cloth and again in a radial direction wipe off any remaining water and polish. Let it dry, and in most cases the CD will work again. Make a 1:1 disc copy and in the future use your copy disk. Use a no CD patch or mini-image to play (this is perfectly legal). Any suggestions? Post by: RainbowTigress on 2006 July 24, 10:46:40 I'm sorry you had to buy a new copy of the game. Perhaps this would have been of some help:

Any suggestions? Post by: Avalikia on 2006 July 24, 14:55:08 Usually if you've already bought a game that requires a CD they'll use your registration as proof of it and will sell you a new CD at a much lower price (like $5) if yours gets damaged.
Also, at my house we have this thing called the Scratch Doctor that resurfaces CDs, and I've seen that thing repair some pretty nasty scratches. It would have to be extremely deep for something like that to not work. Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? I may be a "sucker" but at least I am back to playing. Plus I don't like to repeat history with the mistakes I've done in the past. I agree with you JM on the crappy cd quality that EA brings out. Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: RainbowTigress on 2006 July 24, 16:50:52 I think a lot of companies are using substandard materials nowadays. >:(

Don't be silly.Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Kokopelli on 2006 July 24, 17:41:03 ??? OK, you got me there. How do I play without a cd?
Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: jrd on 2006 July 24, 19:12:02 Either a no cd patch ("fixed exe") or a virtual disc ("mini-image"). I use the latter. Discs are used only for installing, patching (when needed) and reinstalling… keeping them in the drive all the time wears them—and the drive—down.
Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: bekka on 2006 July 25, 02:36:52 Isn't that what I suggested? The no-CD thing?
Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 July 25, 03:00:56 Yes, but Kokopellis are kinda stupid.
Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Venusy on 2006 July 25, 04:30:37 There is one thing I don't understand. Why did you buy NL again, giving you no additional content, when you could've bought OFB or *shudder* FFS and got something extra out of the deal?
Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Kokopelli on 2006 July 25, 06:24:21 There is one thing I don't understand. Why did you buy NL again, giving you no additional content, when you could've bought OFB or *shudder* FFS and got something extra out of the deal? I have OFB and I don't like the way it breaks my game. (broke final exam at Uni) I tried Servo, it was funny to have a romantice sim woohoo the robot, but after awhile the fun wore off. FFS, didn't grab my interest. It also made clothing go *poof*, red flashing walls, etc. Yes, but Kokopellis are kinda stupid. Aww, kinda stupid? what a nice thing to say JM. :D Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 July 25, 06:26:06 Final Exams are not broken in Uni, they were broken in NLp2. OFB later corrected the problem, at least as of OFBp1, but it was broken as early as NLp2.
Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Kokopelli on 2006 July 25, 06:32:47 Nope, sorry, but the final exam is broken for me.
I cannot get one single student to graduate summa cum lautte (or how ever you spell that) the first time I installed OFB. Plus I have no patchwork in my game. Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 July 25, 07:13:50 Well, then, install some patchwork, genius. Do Kokopellis just delight in being as stupid as possible or something?
Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Kokopelli on 2006 July 25, 14:38:03 Well, then, install some patchwork, genius. Do Kokopellis just delight in being as stupid as possible or something? ::) I don't like to repeat myself, so see the other threads I wrote in for further explantion as to WHY I don't have patchwork. I know, I should run two cables etc, but due to the way thing are I can't. sheesh lol Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Rose Outlaw on 2006 July 25, 20:50:56 At least you're still laughing...
Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Jelenedra on 2006 July 25, 20:55:47 Hey, Kokopelli, if you need a cd of stuff, I wouldn't mind mailing it to you.
I have a cd burner I never use and a ton of cds. I promise I am not an evil hack person. (not that anyone could do anything to an offline pc) =p Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Kokopelli on 2006 July 25, 21:03:27 ;D Really? your not pulling my leg are you? If not that would be woderful. their is a "santa claus" list of hacks I need badly!
lol, It might two cd's worth. Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Jelenedra on 2006 July 25, 21:05:16 PM a list, and I'll try to accommodate. I'll even put them in subfolders of "non-awesome" and "awesome." =p
Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Kokopelli on 2006 July 25, 21:15:14 lol
this is going to take awhile :D Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: Jelenedra on 2006 July 25, 21:19:13 If you're worried about taking up too much space, just avoid any objects or custom meshes. Those take up WAAAAAY more space than hacks. Heck, I could probably get a majority of them to you with a couple of floppy discs. =p
Anyways. If you do want custom hairs, skins, eye colors, and all that jazz, they come with the bonus of being genetically coded and familied. (I just haven't gotten around to nixing extra textures on all of my custom hair yet) Just make a list of "Definately wants" "Would be cool" "Okay" and "If you have space" And I will just go down the lists until I fill up the cache. Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: nekonoai on 2006 September 22, 20:20:49 I'm not making a new thread for the same issue. haha. Actually, my disc isn't that far gone yet, as it still works, but I would like to forgo the hassle of putting the thing in the drive in order to play the game any time. I do have daemon tools at home, but really don't know how to use it for this purpose. Can anyone give me an easy instruction? ^_^
Title: Re: Fix major scrach on nightlife cd. Any suggestions? Post by: jrd on 2006 September 22, 20:23:55 First get an image for your game (from a site like game copy world or similar).
Mount this image in daemon. Then use SD4hide, ASR, or another tool to hide your disks before you launch the game, and play without the CD. I prefer ASR as it is a shortcut based method and therefore requires no further manual action, others prefer to manually click SD4hide. |
