Title: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 06, 01:35:15 In my game, Keanu Broke recently reached the top of the Acting profession and is now an Icon. It really bugs me - in Sims 1 the Rock Star had a cool outfit to wear for work, but all poor Keanu gets is that rather boring tracksuit. Couldn't they be bothered to create something for him to wear?
And since Maxis didn't bother, is there some way I can find an outfit that would fit the bill and then assign it to the Icon? Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: Bane~Child on 2005 September 06, 02:51:04 This may sound silly, but what about an outfit from the Phantom of the Opera or some of the 17th century Frocks that I have seen?
I know Besen has some quality items at MTS2 (search: besen) and at her site: http://besens-sims2.e-sfk.de In fact, today I saw a beautiful frockcoat in a blue and white recolor of Besen's mesh from the movie, Valmont at MTS2: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=85688&highlight=besen She also has Phatom of the Opera costumes. Also, Sussi Friberg has always had beautiful, historical meshes. Some are at MTS2 (search: sussifriberg) and at her site: http://www.sussissogoodsims.com At TSR, featured artist, de Anne, has the major cast skins for Phatom of the Opera. Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 06, 02:57:27 Thanks! I'll definitely check them out, although I've got a nice Victorian tuxedo from AllAboutStyle which might fit the bill too!
The problem is I don't know how to get him to wear it for work instead of the tracksuit - and if I get other sims to the Icon level, do I have to change it individually or does once work for all - in which case I'd better get something for the Females as well! I do wish he could have spun an LTW for that though, as it is he's still trying to get 20 sims to fall in love with, which is getting more difficult now than I thought! Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: Bane~Child on 2005 September 06, 03:40:06 Well, there are tutorials at MTS2, that explain how to create custom careers that may cover this aspect:
http://www.modthesims2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=250 Also, I know there have been some on replacing Maxis defaults for other things. Some of these are locked and I think SimPE will allow you to unlock them in the Object Data, but I don't know if this is the only place. I know AncientSim was trying to replace the default Maxis wedding gown for her bride that dropped dead at the alter, but I don't know what was decided. Don't know if this will help, but Morague recommended it and she has unlocked a lot of clothing from the game: http://www.modthesims2.com/showpost.php?p=164175&postcount=38 Also, Morague has things at her forum at Variousimmers and some bits that may be useful at MTS2: http://www.modthesims2.com/search.php?searchid=2103960 Here is the url for the SimPE tutorials, too, recommended by Carrigon: http://ambertation.de/simpeforum/viewforum.php?f=9&sid=11f414920817eb6493ec5e5e95236c52 Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 06, 12:12:05 Thank you, I'll have a look and see if it's within my ability to have a go!
Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: Bane~Child on 2005 September 07, 06:16:07 When I first saw your topic title I thought you were going to tell us a joke. I was thinking about the picture icons on the computer desktop and wondering what on earth the answer could be.
I kept waiting for someone to come along and say. "I give up, why does an Icon dress like a football player?" Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 07, 06:21:54 ;D Well, if you've got an Icon in your game, you'll know why I think it's really bad, like they took Daniel Pleasant's old track suit from before he became a coach and gave it to the 5,000+ simoleons-a-day Icon as if he couldn't afford to buy a decent suit! Really, does Steven Spielberg attend First Nights in a track suit? I think someone at Maxis just couldn't be bothered!
And it's bad too that Professional Party Guests could go to work in something they'd been doing the gardening in! They ought to automatically change into Evening Dress! Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: witch on 2005 September 07, 06:34:21 Really, does Steven Spielberg attend First Nights in a track suit? Steven Spielberg probably wouldn't but Peter Jackson, Lord of the Rings, is quite likely to dress down. ;)Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: Bane~Child on 2005 September 07, 06:55:03 And it's bad too that Professional Party Guests could go to work in something they'd been doing the gardening in! They ought to automatically change into Evening Dress! Is it an inside joke with them like, 'One track mind'? It's the same way with the Elders, the most exiciting thing they own is a tracksuit. It's as if Maxis had relegated their most desirable aspiration to being able to go out for a jog around the block. I can't understand the Acting career using that, it makes no sense, it's as though they forgot and left it unfinished. There are so many much nicer outfits available, but all the defaults are absolute dregs. I think the programmers must dress like this for the most part and so I suppose they see nothing wrong or unusual about it. My husband works in IT as a Network Admin and even when he worked where the public never saw him, he has always worn a shirt and tie. There were fellows in his division that their entire wardrobe was made up from free t-shirts they received from the vendors. All they wore were their jeans and those stupid Ts. They always teased my hubby about looking out of place and bragged about not having to spend any money on work clothers. Well they looked the part too, but guess who was the one always called to the Mayor's office or to see other city officials? As a consequence they all have to were department logo shirts now and khaki slacks, but they are allowed the option to wear a shirt and tie. Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: witch on 2005 September 07, 09:25:26 There were fellows in his division that their entire wardrobe was made up from free t-shirts they received from the vendors. I've just read Dilbert Future by Scott Adams. That is totally the culture he describes and satirises. Brilliant! Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 07, 11:57:39 You could understand if they were low paid!
I still think Sims Icons would dress the part if they had the choice!!!!! I mean, it doesn't have to be an evening suit, but at least VERY expensive designer wear! Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: Hairfish on 2005 September 07, 12:30:03 Have you ever seen pictures of real life mega-celebrities arriving at the studio in the morning during a shoot? :o It's like Dawn of The Dead.
I think the "story" around Sims Icons is that they're going to be dressed and made up by their stylists once they reach the studio or theater, so why bother getting all dolled up? [edit] Finally! A lip-rip! Wait'll I tell all my friends!! Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 07, 12:36:13 You get your lips ripped at 50 posts! When it happened to me I didn't know that and I spent days and days worrying about what I'd done to piss Pescado off! ;D
I still think Keanu Broke wouldn't go to the studio in Daniel's old tracksuit!!!! Beau is Mayor now, and he wouldn't want his brother to outdo him in the style stakes! Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: Hairfish on 2005 September 07, 13:21:58 You get your lips ripped at 50 posts! I figured that out. ;) Quote When it happened to me I didn't know that and I spent days and days worrying about what I'd done to piss Pescado off! ;D I wouldn't worry about it if it were based on JMP's pissedness, but I would wonder which of my posts finally did it, so I could print it out and frame it. ;D Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 07, 13:26:39 Well, he's got 4 sets of my lips stuffed away in his freezer! I'll have to watch it, I shall run out of replacements!
Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: witch on 2005 September 08, 12:45:32 I just got a sim to the top of the natural science career, ecological guru he is. Almost naked he is too.
You thought the superstar was bad in a tracksuit - man, Maxis didn't even bother to clothe this career! Check out my new avatar. :o Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 08, 14:19:35 Well, I suppose that one makes sense!!!

Is that for real? Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 08, 17:33:46 Well, he IS a Natural Scientist, so I suppose going to work "au naturel" is to be commended!

Almost naked he is too. I have two female sims who made it to the top of the NS career, too. They have one leaf on the front like the guy in your avatar does, one on the behind and one covering each breast. I wondered what the male version was! And what a surprise the first time they went to work! Nearly naked, and flying up like Captain Hero. Wouldn't think those leaves would stay put doing that! lol Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: Brynne on 2005 September 08, 22:03:00 I may have to turn a couple of my sims into natural scientists. Just for the laughs!
Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 08, 22:58:38 Working one day a week too, an ideal job for a Romance sim! That leaves 6 days to do what comes naturally ;D.

Gotta love that outfit tho. :) Hook Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? Post by: aussieone on 2005 September 08, 23:38:41 Off topic I know, but may I ask a question please? Is it a good thing to get your lips ripped or a bad thing? And how does it happen?
I've been wondering *quietly though* about this and now I figure "oh what the hey, I'll ask and if I come across as stupid well, redirect me to retardo land" Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player? I can stick a uni shower right by the front door and they'll just use it without bothering that they might be seen!

He hasn't been again yet since he got his promotion - this I gotta see! Title: Re: Why does an Icon dress like a football player?
