Title: Quick Question
Post by: kutto on 2006 July 10, 04:18:14
Okay, so I've downloaded the new patch for OFB, though I haven't yet installed it. I have also downloaded some OFBp2 mods, and installed them anticipating that I would install the patch shortly after. However, I have had an error with the patch regarding that "globalcatbin.package" or whatever it was that everyone seemed to have problems with. I know that in order to fix it, I have to replace it via the original CD. Unfortunately, my little brother, in all his wisdom, lent the original to his friend until he buys University. Now, I trust him to return it, he's a good 12-year old. My question is if I run the Sims now, with these p2 mods but without p2, with it cause a big fiery ball visible from space?

Probably not, but they may not work correctly.

Well, they were mostly fixes anyway. It was the relevant wages hack if I remember correctly.

Did you install OFBp1?  See if this will work...I copied this from my unpatched game on my work PC.  I've never modified it, so it should work.  Let me know, ok?

The patch doesn't really require the original disc in order to update, as long as you have not modified any core files.

You can mount one of the OFB mini-images from http://m0003.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_the_sims_2_ofb.shtml with Daemon or Alcohol, and use that to patch the game. (You can't play with them without also using ASR or another Safedisc hider.)

By the way I assume you have either FFS, or use a no cd patch, because how else can you play without the OFB CD?

Ok, I think I've mislead you all. The CD in question is the Sims 2 CD, not OFB. I looked for the file I needed on the OFB CD, but it wasn't there, so I figured it would be on the original one. I do not have FFS. I do have patch 1, and have installed it.

Hope that clears anything up.

The file is actually on the OFB disc.  It is in the compressed.zip file.  That file contains all the files that the installer uncompresses and copies to your hard drive.  You can open it with any program that opens zip files.

Okay, thank you. This resolves everything. Now I can play without fear.

New question: now that I've installed the patch, what should I do with my old globalcat.bundle.package file? Delete or replace?

So you were able to extract the file from the disk and install the patch?  Is the file you're asking about a backup that you made prior to patching?  If so, I don't think you would need it any longer if the game is working properly now.
