Title: Game Vs Mouse Mouse winning
Post by: Kokopelli on 2006 July 09, 16:47:42
 >:(
I just don't get why my mouse keeps freezing up on me so many times during game play.
I have more than enough RAM, the stupid computer is only two yrs old, and the only game I have on it is the Sims2, University, and  Nightlife.( I gave up on OFB due to the broken final exam). I have no hacks( and I wish I had hacks) but the game is on the newer machine, not online.
Can someone much more awsome than me help ???

I was going to say it sounds like your mouse has given up the ghost, but you said you tried a different mouse with the same results.  What kind of mouse are you using, and what brand?  Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the mouse drivers?  I have a Logitech mouse, and I don't use the Logitech drivers because I can't use the middle mouse button to rotate the view angle.

Also, do you have floppy disks on your computers?  You could get hacks to your non-Internet connected PC that way.  I don't suppose you have them networked together?  Or a CD burner on your Internet PC?  Or maybe you could get a Jump drive or portable USB Flash drive?   :-\

If you can't download hacks, then you probably can't download patches, and that's a VBT (c. Rainbow  :P)

Truthfully, I don't think the mouse gave up the ghost I think my custom hood did.

Old one yes I have a slot for floppies and a cd driver but I can't write anything on it. The new one, no just two cd slots, and plenty of places to put digital camera memory cards in.  Stupid Gateway.
What I wouln't give to have hacks and simPE. Maybe one day after this hunk of junk gives up the ghost, my game will be set free and hacks here I come!

Floppy disks? Did they not become obsolete when Bill Gates became God?

No, they actually still sell floppy disks and floppy disk drives.  They come in handy in a pinch.  I don't have one on my newer computer my brother-in-law and I built, but some utilities require a bootable floppy, so I can't use them.  Fortunately, some will allow you to make a bootable CD, but my mom's old computer won't read certain brands of CD-Rs.  :(

And if you've tried the Beta for Windows Vista, you'll definately see how far from God he really is!

If it's a wireless mouse maybe the receiver has fallen off the back of your desk and you haven't noticed.  Or could be covered up by candy wrappers.  Or maybe the connection to the usb on the receiver needs to be jammed in a little better.  Peanut butter works as a great conductor.  (just kidding on that last part)

I know you said you tried a different mouse, but if your "different" mouses are anything like mine, they are the exact same one from the boyfriend's desk area.

Actually Myth, that stupid hood decided to self destruct on me, but that's ok, I have started a new one and boy is this going to be FUN! My mouses are fine.

Wireless mouse eh. That sounds neat and how much is it? (as if I can afford it right now).

Wireless mice SUCK. They have unreliable tracking and constantly die. Do not use wireless mice for games. I honestly can't think of why you'd need a wireless mouse for ANYTHING, since if you're too far away from the computer to use a wire, you're too far away to see the screen anyway.

Well, one less wire behind desk,
getting entangled with feet during hours of gameplay,
only to find that after one gets up to eat,
one takes mouse and keyboard to back of desk.
Not to fun for me.

You exchange that for dead batteries, bad tracking, and general unreliability. A mouse is not something you want to go wireless on, believe me. The lack of smoothness in wireless mouse tracking is readily apparent once you've had it for a bit, especially for gaming or any other fine manipulation. Wireless mice bad!

In that case I'll stick to what I have, until something breaks that it.

My brother-in-law loves his wireless mouse and says once you go wireless, you'll never go back.  But I don't think he does a lot of gaming.  Mostly he makes copies of DVDs and videocassettes and burns them to DVD.

I had a wireless mouse, for most things it is ok, but for gameing I was not happy with it.It was too unpredictable.

Ugh, I had a wireless mouse and the thing was constantly dying on me.  Not good at all for gaming.  I hated it and it's now sitting in a box of other crap, which will probably be dumped when I move next month.

Sell it on e-Bay, and get something for it.  Or just send it to me.  ;D

I have a wireless laser mouse and I love it.  My optical rocked too.  I have a wired mouse at work and I'm constantly yanking it towards me to get slack on the damn cord.  If I ever have an issue with my mouse it's usually operator error as listed in my previous post.

Wireless mice don't work, 'cause everyone knows a mouse needs a tail  ;)(just ask Reepicheep).

A ... wireless ... mouse ... tends ... to ... work ... like ... this
(stopping every few seconds to find out where its tail has gone)

A wireless keyboard is handy

I guess I'm the only one in the world that doesn't has an issue with my mouse unless it's self inflicted.

I love my wireless mouse too, I would never go back to that horrible old squeaky balled mouse with the tail again.

Sure the batteries die every 24 hours or so, but I keep stocked up with rechargeables.

I loved my optical wireless..it was smooth, fast, and hardly ever required batteries.  Alas, my toddler broke the dealy bopper that sticks out from the USB port so I had to switch.  Hubby bought me an (what I thought was) awesome laser wireless mouse and it SUCKED so bad that I refuse to even try another wireless again.  Tails all the way baby.

No Myth, I find that my wireless mice are perfect and don't go all dying and lagging.

I have a wireless optical mouse. It works incredibly well, even on surfaces it shouldn't (such as my bed if I'm feeling lazy), and hardly ever requires new batteries (I bought it six months ago, and it only needed some new ones recently). My one complaint about it is that the wireless doesn't seem to go that far, but the other features are pretty useful (except magnify, that always seems to get activated when I don't want it to, slowing my computer down to a crawl if I'm using a graphics intensive program).
