Title: Minor Annoyance with new Driver
Post by: Paperbladder on 2006 July 07, 20:47:49

This message has been popping up every time I start the computer ever since I installed the 91.31 nVidia drivers.  I know I don't have a second card.  Is there a way to disable this or is this an advertisement for me to get another Geforce card?

Your driver profile is setup for SLI for some reason. Did you use the official driver installer, or one of those modified ones?

I'm not using Omega drivers, I'm using the ones off the official site.

Omega? Aren't those about a year old without updat by now? There are many other unofficial/tweaked driver packages which ARE updated, you know.

OK, seems like it has not detected or setup your card right.

In the Nvidia control panel, what does it have under 'Set SLI Configuration'?

Btw, what IS your card?

I'm getting the same thing, also with the official drivers, like Mr. Paper. I have a 6600. I don't see anything under the SLI configuration section that says what it's set to or how to change it. There's just a link to the Web site.

Okay, this is apparently Nvidia spam, pure and simple.
Two ways to fix it:
1) Turn off the media center (tray icon). Recommended, as it serves little purpose and is yet another program slurping up RAM and CPU cycles.
2) Edit the registry as follows:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\MediaCenterTray]
"NvCplDisableBalloonNotifications"=dword:00000001

If you do 1 2 is not needed of course.

If you're not familiar with regedit:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\MediaCenterTray]
"NvCplDisableBalloonNotifications"=dword:00000001

Save the above as something like nvidiaspam.reg using notepad, double-click it, and let it import. Next logon the pop-up should be gone.

Thanks, Jordi, I think I'll just turn off the media center thingy. I thought it would be helpful for updates, but since it never told me there were even new drivers available :P it seems pretty damn useless, all right.
