Title: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Shivani on 2005 August 31, 06:19:50 I just had the most delightful time. Sim does a runner for the bathroom, uses a stall, comes out and promptly gives birth the second he steps out. Cool. Then he sets the baby down, and I watch a comedic routine of three sims dashing in and out of the bathroom trying to pick the newborn up to place it in a crib, but getting kicked out every time by the controller.
??? Yes, I moved the controllers out long enough so one of them could rescue the poor darling, but...is it in any way possible for this to be added in as an exception to how the bathroom controller handles things? Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 August 31, 06:23:38 My sim gave birth in the bathroom and laid it on the floor, but I have the baby controller, and she went and picked up the baby to put it in the crib. I'm not sure what the difference would be though.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: gali on 2005 August 31, 10:15:16 I always know where and when my sim is going to give a birth. I always shoot the first "bump", and write down the hour. The second "bump" occurs the next day, but 1 hour later, and the birth occurs the next day - 1 hour later. So I always can move her to the place I want her to give a birth.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 August 31, 13:01:44 Well, I don't use the bathroom controller or the baby controller, so I honestly couldn't care less where she/he gives birth as long as nothing goes wrong! It's just sad when it happens when they're all alone in the house, so you can't get all those passing baby around interactions!
Just happened to Lisa Broke. I knew baby was due that morning, so she phoned Brandi and invited her over, but Brandi wasn't quick enough, and stood on the doorstep waiting till it was all over and then took no notice of the baby. I should have got her to phone a 10 for outgoing sim who would have just walked in! Still, there wouldn't have been any interactions since Lisa only has a brother and he would have been at work too and I think non-resident sim intereractions like hand baby to have to be with relatives. Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Marvin Kosh on 2005 August 31, 13:03:48 This sort of craziness is what the Emergency Stop (on the baby Controller) is for. Your Sim shouldn't get kicked out if he is directed by you to go into the bathroom and put the baby in the crib. Then again, maybe they will, but at least then you don't have three Sims falling over themselves trying to deal with conflicting directives :)
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Cat Moonshadow on 2005 August 31, 13:06:41 This reminds me of an interesting occurrence I had once. I had a sim go into labour while she was showering, so then she rushed out and gave birth, naked. I guess she knew that giving birth while fully clothed is a bad idea, even if you're wearing a skirt and sans underwear. After all, most sims only have one set of clothes to begin with, imagine if the clothes gets ruined.

Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 August 31, 13:35:19 ;D Well, you can buy them washers and driers, but the silly idiots use them as traxh compactors and dish-washers! ROFL!
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Shivani on 2005 August 31, 13:39:53 This sort of craziness is what the Emergency Stop (on the baby Controller) is for. Your Sim shouldn't get kicked out if he is directed by you to go into the bathroom and put the baby in the crib. Then again, maybe they will, but at least then you don't have three Sims falling over themselves trying to deal with conflicting directives :) I admit, I hadn't thought to hit the emergency stop. Still, I don't know/understand if it's a quirk with the whole system, or just a fluke. Mind you, that's the first bathroom birth I've had with this family, so who knows? Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 August 31, 13:41:39 Well, it could be worse if they decide to give birth in the kitchen when they've just put a toaster pastry in the oven!
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Ancient Sim on 2005 August 31, 15:12:09 Well, it could be worse if they decide to give birth in the kitchen when they've just put a toaster pastry in the oven! I had something like this happen with Cassandra, but I can't remember the details now. I think she ran to the kitchen to 'fire-panic' after giving birth, but it's so long ago I can't be sure of the exact scenario. I know she was alone on the lot when she gave birth apart from the gardener or someone, so there was no one to see to whatever it was she was in the middle of cooking. As for bathrooms, the majority of my Sims seem to give birth in the bathroom. I suppose it's because they are forever in there dealing with their pregnancy-weakened bladders. Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 August 31, 17:31:04 Not if you use flamingoes!!!!! They enjoy being pregnant witha flamingo on the lot!
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: laeshanin on 2005 August 31, 23:49:58 A flamingo, eh? Curiouser and curiouser. Think I'm just gonna have to try that.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 01, 01:04:11 I mean Gnomon's flamingo of contentment - not the Maxis flamingo! That may raise fun levels, but does nothing for bladders!
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 01, 01:25:54 You'd better hurry and get it before Livin It Up closes down. Unless Gnomon has his flamingoes uploaded somewhere else?
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom (Challenge for ZZ) Post by: Ancient Sim on 2005 September 01, 01:26:30 I mean Gnomon's flamingo of contentment - not the Maxis flamingo! That may raise fun levels, but does nothing for bladders! Er ... Mr Zephyr, Sir? I have a challenge for you. I want you to remove ALL your contented flamingoes from whatever lot you are playing and play without them. This game isn't a TV programme, you know. You're not meant to just sit back and watch. Let's see you WORKING your Sims. Let us know how you get on.You'd better hurry and get it before Livin It Up closes down. Looks like it already has!Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 01, 01:27:54 LOL, Ancient Sim. :D
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 01, 01:34:35 Ancient Sim, I'll play MY GAME how I want!!!!!! I've played with hacks, I've played without hacks, it just depends on how I feel at the time!
By the way, as I've pointed out before, I am not male!!!! I have also just tried twice to PM you, but the darn thing was saying it couldn't be sent due to the maximum PM limit. Well, I just cleared a few out of my Inbox, so I don't think my end is the problem. Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Ancient Sim on 2005 September 01, 02:27:18 Oooooooooooh.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 01, 02:29:17 ? ???
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 01, 02:41:21 :o
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Zeljka on 2005 September 02, 02:49:46 Well, it could be worse if they decide to give birth in the kitchen when they've just put a toaster pastry in the oven! I'd like to see a 'delay-able' birth, even if it just allowed 1 command between. I had a ridiculous Sim who decided she absolutely needed an omellette before the task. I cancelled it 4 times, but she was bound and determined and went into labour after setting it on the stove. Of course this was the moment my game decided to give me uncheated twins and as she was the only resident, she had to coo over each baby for an extra long time before setting them on the floor to panic over the fire. She barely managed to get them to safety as she'd set a baby down in front of the stove (fireman literally stepped in it's face after a delay to extinguish the fire) Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 02, 03:24:19 Well, if you had saved since she conceived, you could have exited without saviing since twins are determined at birth. Then maybe you could have prevented her from cooking. I know it's too late now though. Before I knew this, I once saved a game after the mother had twins although I wanted to go back and change something. I was afraid I wouldn't get twins again.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 02, 03:45:07 I suppose if you have smart-serve it wouldn't have happened.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: rohina on 2005 September 02, 03:54:06 The other day I had a sim give birth while her husband was in the shower. Turns out it was twins, so he came running, in the pixelated nude, to grab twin 1. Very funny, and yet realistic.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 02, 04:01:33 Well, mine aren't pixelated any more, and mostly they tend to let the sim giving birth just get on with it!
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Shivani on 2005 September 02, 15:03:45 Heh, just my luck. It's happened again. Kaworu gave birth in the bathroom, and I encountered the same circus. Hitting Emergency Stop didn't help in the least. Having done that, and directed a sim manually to go get the baby, still resulted in being kicked out by the Bathroom Controller. I had to delete it before anyone could rescue the newborn, then replace it afterward.
This is also in a new house (I decided the 5x5 lot was just too weird, so I moved them to a smaller one). Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 02, 16:17:26 Perhaps you should take out the Bathroom controller when you have pregnant sims?
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Shivani on 2005 September 02, 16:28:54 Sure, I could. Though I think that's a drastic response to the issue considering how interconnected a lot of these nifty little things are.
I just wanted to point out that it happened again. If it's not something that can be tweaked, so be it. I'll just have to continue to keep a close eye on my pregnant people. Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 02, 16:37:55 Or post the problem in the Bathroom Controller thread. Maybe JM would be able to fix it?
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 03, 02:27:14 Perhaps you could turn Seek off. I have Seek/All set in mine, but I haven't encountered this issue. You shouldn't have to get rid of it altogether, maybe just move it when she is about to give birth (if you can keep track of it). But I think it would be a good idea to ask JM about it. Speaking of whom, has anyone heard from him lately?
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 03, 11:35:06 He's been busy upsetting Reggikko on the Hurrican thread.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: bluecatvon on 2005 September 03, 12:16:45 bad bad JM..
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 03, 23:04:14 Yes, I see that. :(
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: laeshanin on 2005 September 04, 11:06:47 J.M. master of the put down and general kicking... you gotta hand it to him (maybe a grenade?).
My sims come running when another is about to drop a sprog, cheer a bit, then go and sit down. No communal passing around. In fact, no care at all! Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 04, 11:44:09 J.M. master of the put down and general kicking... you gotta hand it to him (maybe a grenade?). Mine will if they aren't busy doing something else. Otherwise it gets added to the end of their queue, and it will drop off if they don't get to it after a while. My sims come running when about another is about to drop a sprog, cheer a bit, then go and sit down. No communal passing around. In fact, no care at all! That's funny, dropping a sprog. Never heard this before, I assume it means a baby. Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 04, 13:25:42 British slang! We still have a few expressions that aren't "mid-atlantic" in origin!
If you know when the kid is to arrive, then I suppose you can arrange for everyone to be busy doing nothing except maybe playing SSSX3, then they will come and watch. I've also had them autonomously pass the baby around, but not often. I've also had one instnace of a sim autonomously "talking to belly" which was rather sweet! Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: laeshanin on 2005 September 04, 14:15:57 Yes, indeed. We have Shakespeare and Chaucer, Keats, and many other literary giants, yet no-one can quite coin a phrase like the Brits can... Common, blunt and with excellent imagery.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Shivani on 2005 September 04, 14:24:10 Yeah, well, the last sprog to be popped out, I actually used a spare brain cell or two and had the "mother" to be meditate after greening him up.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: laeshanin on 2005 September 04, 14:35:07 "Greening him up"? At the risk of being an ignorant old hag, pardone?
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Shivani on 2005 September 04, 14:39:52 Needs, specifically his bladder at that point. Though, it really ought not to have mattered, since meditating freezes them.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: laeshanin on 2005 September 04, 14:48:34 Although I know that adults are able to meditate and thus reduce their need to pee, I was not aware that the same could be said of infants. Is this something that the mother needs to do prior to birth, or is it something she can do when sprog born and in her arms? I have just allowed the babies to be cared for as any normal infant is, so this is quite intrigueing.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Shivani on 2005 September 04, 15:04:07 Sorry, I think I was unclear in how I worded things that time. All I meant was that the expectant "mother" meditated in order to prevent him from giving birth in the bathroom (like the previous two children born in that household). After the baby was born, I just let things go back to normal.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: laeshanin on 2005 September 04, 15:14:45 Ah, I see. Thanks.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 05, 00:22:59 I think the confusing part was "greening him up" because we assume the mother was a she! After rereading your post, I see that you had quotes around "mother."
The first thing that came to mind when I saw "sprog" was a "spud" and spud means potato over here. So I had a mental image of this sim popping out a potato! Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: Shivani on 2005 September 05, 06:29:54 I think the confusing part was "greening him up" because we assume the mother was a she! My sims are much too cute to play the starring roles in a Mr Potato Head sim fantasy. :) Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 05, 06:43:41 Well, passing the baby around could similar to passing a hot potato!
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: laeshanin on 2005 September 05, 09:46:04 "Spud" means potato in the UK too. "Sprog" is a slang term for kids of all varieties, upto and including teens (if you want to put their hackles up, that is ;)).
Thanks for the clarification re "mother". *Takes thinking cap off, and rubs head.* Must be going senile. Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 05, 10:03:14 Well, one of Keanu Broke's girlfriends just gave birth in the bathroom, which has four diagonal walls, although the door is in a straight one because Remington wouldn't clean the loo. When she started to give beirth, Keanu, who was visiting, came rushing in from the hot tub to watch, but since he didn't live there, Carolyn couldn't hand the baby to him! Shame! But the day before, she'd been over at his house and he autonomously rubbed her belly! Which goes to show, he may be a romance sim, but he cares!
Sister Rosemary was also in this quite small bathroom, but nobody got stuck there, but then, I don't use the controller, my sims seem to be perfectly capable of using the bathroom when necessary, so I don't bother. Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 06, 00:55:59 My sims never play pass the baby unless they have twins. Otherwise, they either stand and bounce the baby, put them on the floor, or put them in the crib (the later especially if I have the baby controller). I never seem to have a problem with sims picking up the baby in the bathroom. Usually if I or the baby controller directs them to put the baby in the crib, they don't get thrown out. If they were trying to do it autonomously, though, they would.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 06, 00:58:25 "Spud" means potato in the UK too. "Sprog" is a slang term for kids of all varieties, upto and including teens (if you want to put their hackles up, that is ;)). Yeah, that probably would irritate teens, calling them a sprog!Quote Thanks for the clarification re "mother". *Takes thinking cap off, and rubs head.* Must be going senile. Uh-oh, your aspiration isn't dipping into the green, is it? Gotta be careful about that!Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: laeshanin on 2005 September 06, 12:47:35 Aspiration always green, dammit! Just can't seem to get all my needs met...
I have never had a sim put a baby in the cot autonomously. They leave 'em lying around the floor and I have to try and find out where. Or I just click on the cot to make 'em do it. Why do we play this game when they are such a pain? Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 06, 12:56:20 Well, I think they used to do it in Sims2, but university screwed so many things up! I'm pretty sure in Sims 2 you could hand babies to family members who were visiting, too.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 06, 20:56:42 I remember before the patch came out, family members would "kidnap" babies by deciding to go home but forgetting to put the baby down first. People were panicking all over the BBS, thinking their babies were "gone."
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 06, 22:07:50 I was lucky, that never happened to me, maybe because most of my sims were only first generation CAS and had very few family members living in a different house.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: laeshanin on 2005 September 07, 12:16:21 I remember before the patch came out, family members would "kidnap" babies by deciding to go home but forgetting to put the baby down first. People were panicking all over the BBS, thinking their babies were "gone." That happened to me a few times. I thought that it was part of the game initially, then realised it was a Maxis blooper. Kidnapping would have made the game quite interesting, if a little dark. Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 07, 12:27:08 Well, I suppose if it was all in the family.......you could get the baby back by moving a parent to the kidnappers lot, then the other parent asking them to move in, then they could bring the baby with them.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: laeshanin on 2005 September 07, 21:43:10 All the babies that I had kidnapped were returned eventually. It was quite bizarre as they would suddenly be back on the lot as though nothing had ever happened.
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 September 07, 21:58:38 Just another piece of faulty programming.........

Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: RainbowTigress on 2005 September 08, 05:08:33 LOL!
Title: Re: Birthing in the Bathroom Post by: laeshanin on 2005 September 08, 11:16:37 Indeed. It still worries me that I spend copious amounts of time playing with simulated people instead of trying to have a LIFE of my own. ::) I do believe the "nerdy bird" title I've got at work is, much as I try to shake it off, fair. Oh, that and "smartarse". LOL ;D
