Title: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 June 26, 02:54:11 Well i am on the quest for the perfect hood terrain. I keep finding ones that use all of the space but make the city block so large that only 5x5 lots even semi look decent. Can everyone list there favorite links for terrains. I usually love using medium lots and small lots instead of large ones.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: BlueSoup on 2006 June 26, 03:03:18 *Cough*
I like mine (http://www.modthesims2.com/member.php?u=177098) ;D I also like Starrling's (http://www.modthesims2.com/member.php?u=269354), and this terrain by Loverat (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=116853). Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 June 26, 03:09:00 lol yes blue i love yours they are the perfect deminsion for the streets but i would like alittle more streets with the same deminsion.
Also i would love a hood that had one are more small areas serpated like mini subdivisions. I am trying to get my simcity to work but it seems to being a pain in the ass and wont load up grumbles. Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: BlueSoup on 2006 June 26, 03:13:32 Well, if you give me more of an idea what you're looking for specifically, I can try to make something that will work for you, if you like. Let me know.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 June 26, 03:26:08 Thank you. I will draw you a map. Give me a few minutes and let me load corel
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 June 26, 04:53:27 Ok i am trying to do it myself I got simcity 4 working. I haven't done this in a while. How many squares in simcity equals one square in sims 2 lol
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: BlueSoup on 2006 June 26, 05:02:43 Here's a tutorial (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=118117) that helped me, and it has the ratio in it as well.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: starrling on 2006 June 26, 05:04:33 Thanks for the compliment Blue - I like your terrains also :)
lindaetterlee, per this thread: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=118117 the sc4 lots translate like this in s2: SC4 S2 1x1 3x3 1x3 3x7 2x2 5x5 4x4 9x9 It's best to map it out on graph paper if you want something specific. I've got a request for a specific terrain and that's what I'm going to have to do (which is why I've been putting it off all weekend lol). edit: guess Bluesoup and I posted nearly at the same time (but she beat me by 2 min) :P Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: liegenschonheit on 2006 June 26, 05:08:36 okay, this is a little off topic, but maybe you guys can help me out on this. Is there anything special you have to do to make bridges show up? Whenever I make a sc4 terrain with bridges, I load it into ts2 and there are no bridges to be seen.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: starrling on 2006 June 26, 05:10:51 I hate bridges. There's only 1 kind of bridge that shows up and it's even a little iffy at times - I think it's called Level Road. It's mentioned in the tutorial linked.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: liegenschonheit on 2006 June 26, 05:18:26 I'll check out the tutorial. I think I used the default bridge in my terrains, I'm not sure if thats the right one or not. Thanks for the link.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: BlueSoup on 2006 June 26, 05:22:18 I think I've only ever used the road going over water and back onto land to make bridges. I don't even know if they worked, I've spent a lot of time just playing around and only ever checked a few in TS2 to see how they looked.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 June 26, 06:22:43 Off Topic. Starrling. I love your cat. It cracks me up everytime i see it.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: gethane on 2006 June 26, 12:27:27 Here's a link to my terrains. I'm partial to them.
http://www.modthesims2.com/member.php?u=65319 Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: starrling on 2006 June 26, 16:00:28 Gethane: I have all your terrains and BlueSoup's too. ;D
lindaetterlee: Thanks, I got him from Yahoo photos - he very appropriately describes how I feel most mornings when I first sign on here :P Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: BlueSoup on 2006 June 26, 17:13:59 I like your terrains too, gethane, but they're a little big for me to play comfortably (only for a couple more weeks though ;D). One thing, while you're here, I was wondering about was the PNG files. Did you ever attach all the proper PNG files to see the neighbourhood properly?
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: gethane on 2006 June 26, 17:34:30 yeah, i got that done before getting them up on MTS2. My posting of them here was practice I suppose :)
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: BlueSoup on 2006 June 26, 17:37:26 Cool beans. I had downloaded them here, and then I saw them on MTS2 and I think TSR? Anyway, I didn't re-download them but I do still have them and when I get my new comp I'll see how they work out. :)
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: gethane on 2006 June 26, 18:26:31 I uploaded one to TSR long ago. almost a year ago I think. Pre-nightlife and all the images to include I believe.
Good luck with the new computer! Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 June 26, 22:45:28 Ok i hit a road block i am designing this hood to have a few functional areas. First uperclass bigger homes section_on top of the mountain(1). Second a middle class section(2) Third a isolated island for loner sims (3) and then i have areas 4 5 and 6. I would like to have a small commerce area as this is the main hood. Something with a few stores etc. Then a apartment community where only singles live and another smaller one for newlyweds. The last apartment community would be more trashy community (slums for the rif raf). There will also be two lovers parks. Two community pools. Two playgrounds. i need help figuring out how to place the final communities in the areas 4, 5 and 6 anyone wishing to help feel free.

Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: starrling on 2006 June 27, 00:40:32 Wow, a huge neighborhood! It'd choke my poor computer unfortunately. For the commerce area I tend to like the little lots like Wolfsim's Stone Collection at MTS2 and they fit on the smallest, PLUS she has them built so that the fronts all line up. So a line of 1-tile stretches in SC4 would work for that. I also have tried to make them in a square with a neighborhood dec as the center but I can never get it to all fit right.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 June 27, 00:46:31 Actually i tested it on my hubby's laptop and it flows very well. I think i am going to work on a smaller version later. But how is my layout looking?
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: SaraMK on 2006 June 27, 02:31:35 Aren't a lot of those roads going to be unusable because they're on a slope? I guess you could install the slope hack, but building might be pretty hard anyway, and if you plunk pre-made houses the roads might get deformed.
I also got fed up with not finding the "right" terrains and finally learned how to make my own. All of mine have just one feature: they're all 100% flat. ;D Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 June 27, 03:13:00 The roads that are going up the mountain are ment to be just that. Roads. Not "streets". As in where houses are put. More for decoration than anything else. The Roads at top are flat as are 99% of the roads at bottom. I got in a zero depth to make sure they are flat or have very very minor rolling floor.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: starrling on 2006 June 27, 03:53:40 I like the layout - it's like each area can be sort of like a completely separate neighborhood. Have you played around with roads that are side-by-side? Those are the ones that come out as perfect for tiny lots (1x3). I'm still working on getting it all right myself.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 June 27, 04:08:37 yes in the updatd pic i will be posting in a bit i have created a trailer park section of the hood just for that. I like predefining spaces. I mean real communities do it so why have blah lol.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 June 27, 04:27:06 Ok here is the final product. I am going to upload it to MTS2 after one final test and picture time. lol Be brutally honest pleaseeeeeeeeee
(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c55/lindaetterlee/NewCity5-Sep.jpg) Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: BlueSoup on 2006 June 27, 04:28:59 There's a lot of trees in SimCity, but when you look at it in TS2, there's not nearly as many. So, I advise you to look at it and play-test it before you upload.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 June 27, 05:03:23 Actually it was overloaded with trees. Decided to removed them all and upload a clean lot and let players adjust trees to their tastes.
Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: gethane on 2006 June 27, 12:42:31 The problem with the trees is that, especially with lower elevations, beach and one level up, the trees import into Sims 2 and make a retarded cactus or something ucky a lot of the times.
Something else interesting I found out by accident. If you make a neighborhood, using a terrain, and then make another neighborhood using the same terrain (either deleting the old or keeping it) the trees will often import into different Sims 2 tree types. Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: starrling on 2006 June 27, 14:09:17 Something else interesting I found out by accident. That's something worth playing around with - thanks! I have so many terrains now but most of them are my own rejects that never got uploaded because they're just...wrong - guess it's time to clean out that file. Title: Re: downloading new sc4 terrains? Post by: Jelenedra on 2006 June 27, 14:44:45 I like it. I would nix a couple of the trees and fiddle with it a bit in TS2. Be sure to share a link to your upload when it finally hits. :)
