Title: Setting/Overiding NPC & townie clothes
Post by: PlayLives on 2006 May 29, 20:04:19
I recall seeing a hack that lets you set/overide NPC and townie clothes somewhere, I just don't remember. Does anyone know of a hack that lets you do this?

thanks

Well, the NPC Replacer at http://www.simwardrobe.com/ will work for NPC's apparently.  I dunno about townies.

Just make them selectable and use the clothing tool - but be prepared to kaching or your sims will end up paying!  It works fine for dormies, so I should imagine it works for townies too.  (Thinks, might try it with Goopy........  now the gorilla mask or the deep sea diver.....)

Actually, townies can't get new clothes that way anymore (since NL or OFB, can't remember). What I usually do when I want to change their attire is summon them with Inge's Teleporter Shrub Plus (found here (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=2757.0)), move them in, pick new clothes with the Clothing Tool, them release them to the wild again with the Shrub. For service NPCs I used a different approach though: I created a replacement sim in CAS, exited the game, and used SimPE's Sim Surgery to replace the existing NPC. In order for them to retain their new attire though, you'll need this hack (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=89766), otherwise they'll keep reverting to their standard work clothes.

Oh, I last did it with NL, haven't tried it since OFB, but then with OFB the whole clothing thing is screwed!  I think somehow when they wrote the code for employee uniforms they screwed up a lot of code that had been working fine before.

I didn't want to change their clothes one by one but I thought there was something that allowed you to do it globally. It seems like the one from simwardrobe allows you to do it for NPC's. Has anyone used this?
Still looking for townie one, I know I saw it somewhere...

Haven't seen one, but you never know.  I would think, though, that since townies are, in the end, a form of NPC, it might be possible to ask if the program could be modified to include them.

Oh, and Dr. Beast, when I re-read your post, I realised that what you suggest is what I was doing - when I said to make them selectable, I was  meaning that I used the Mind control Mirror.

I think this is the one I was looking for...
Hide all Maxis clothing & hair - http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=146185&c=1&page=2&pp=25
... I didn't read the fine print as it says it is not working completely yet for townie clothes, but maybe in the future.

This does work with NPCs. I've replaced my female maid outfits and a few others, and it works without a hitch. I just wish it would let you change other things, like default hairstyles.

I've been running a clothing store and done several Suggest Outfit For... interactions with townies.  This is a really fun way to get them out of those hideous clothes.  Then I select them with the Mirror and have them Change Appearance so their thumbnail has the new clothes.  I haven't tried this with NPCs, but I like them in their work clothes anyway.

yeah, that seems to be my only option; that or the teleporter shrub and clothing rack. Not ideal for a period hood but oh well.

What you need is a clothing rack made to look like an old-fashioned wardrobe!

I got all the Maxis clothes now. I don't recommend this mod though, I'm not at all sure what the game does on townie generation with this one in place.

Well, if you hide all someone's clothes, what can they do but walk around in the buff? ;D
