How big is your downloads folder?

Mine equates to 56,434,688 bytes (53MB for those less geekier than me.)
Man, I need a cleanout.

My downloads folder is about 66 MB, but about 55 MB of it consists of dissected files that are not loaded into the game.

1.5 GB

And that's AFTER I painstakingly cleaned it out, removing everything I did not actually use.

I think I spend more time downloading than I do actually playing the game!

535 MB, as you very well know. Only going to get fatter, too.

 608 MB, but only after I took tons of content and moved it to my desktop. It was over 2 GB a few weeks ago.
 For the folks that subfolder I'm curious to know what is it that takes up the most space in your downloads. My biggest folder is hair, it takes up more than half my download folder. Before I did my cleanup, the biggest culprits were custom skintones (all those crazy MATY sims) and some reaaly pretty custom cars.

935 MB. I cleaned out before OFB but then missed lots of stuff and put most of it back in.
The game loads in about 3 Minutes (from putting in the disk until entering a lot) and I guess that´s still okay. It has to be anyway. I´m not taking out anything.

ok I have got alot then as mine is 2.99gig and I have done a clean out too. the bigest subfolder is my hair and it is 1.06gig.

I have 859 MB flus a few more files I downloaded but haven't added in yet. I did have 10 GB at one point but I trashed it all and started over trying to be more selective but I still ended up with more junk than I want or need and just don't have the energy to prune it all.

About 1.2GB. Haven't really checked to see which subfolder is the biggest. I've always been pretty selective regarding what to download, but it's beginning to get bloated now. Problem is, I really don't know what to trash and what to keep! Loading times are pretty decent, about 3-4 minutes from startup to entering a lot.

Ok, I'm totally embarrased here. My downloads folder is 3.44GB, 12,008 files, 108 folders. My TSR folder is the biggest, at around 550MB, with several others at the 350MB mark.

Gosh, I really need to do a purge  :o

83MB. Largest Sub-folder being the one containing random implements of itemery and clothing from MTS2.

Embarrasing, but, my downloads folder is 3.14 GB, while my Saved Sims folder (where I keep clothes, ect.) is 2.07GB. I have a combined total of about 17,000 downloads. Currently cleaning out all that though, I've finished CAS and have moved on to objects, which is slow going.

No wonder it takes so long to load!  Is there a 12 step program for simmie downloaders?  Do I really want one?....

Mine is 5.49 gigs. 1.38 gigs is my objects folder and 1.49 is my recolors folder. :-[

1.67 GB, 4,549 files, and 428 folders here. My biggest subfolder is my SimCribbling folder at 146 MB.  Too many downloads methinks. ::) At least the game loads completely in just a little over two minutes.

1.3 GB with 3068 files in 476 folders, at this moment. It will no doubt change before the end of the day!

585 MB but I am due for a spring cleaning.  My biggest folders are my recolors as well, I break them into object recolors and paintings so it's not completely overwhelmingly huge.

My downloads folder is only 4 megabytes. :P

My folder is 568 MB.  I'm happy with the size it's at now.

Only 98.3 Meg.  I don't use a lot of custom content. :D

Wow.  Mine is 1.51 GB, with 5399 files.  Crazy.  But since OFB, my game is loading faster, and I can't seem to get below this number as all the stuff I have is essential, so...

900-some-odd megabytes. I need to go through and get rid of some stuff I never use and put the various "Trashed" items in an outside folder for later use, if I ever decide to do the story I wanted to do.

Only 255 MB. And some of these are .packagedisabled files. I'm pretty picky (and kinda lazy) when it comes to CC.

1.31GB, 4,331 files....seems to have doubled in the last month somehow ::)

It's not the size of the ship that matters, but the motion of the ocean.  :D Or so I've been told.   :P

My downloads folder is 526 MB with 2,166 files. I'm far too lazy to seperate them all into subfolders.

Do I win something if mine's the smallest of all of you  ;D

 It is only 1,74MB all mods, hacks and Maxis special scissors which is the item that is taking the most place.

1.07 GB in about 3500 files of custom content split over 8 folders.  I did a huge cleanout with my OFB installation and had to retire some neighborhoods as a result.

10.7 MB of hacks.
I can see those numbers exploding once I can sort my stuff with Nightlife.

Counting all downloaded items and my own stuff, I have 1.5 gigabytes after weeding out some unwanted stuff recently.  I expect it to grow very slowly from this point, as I have most of the objects recolors I forsee needing for common items and will be downloading mostly unique stuff, new meshes and hacks and so forth from this point...

What kind of content is in your downloads folder that makes it so large? I only have content from this site.

Well, total, custom content wise, I have 588 MB (617,094,619 bytes) in all my folders.

In just my downloads folder, I have: 449 MB (471,498,567 bytes)
and in all my other folders (SavedSims, Hacks, my stuff, and a few other random things): 138 MB (145,596,052 bytes)

2,276 Files in total. My game takes about 2 minutes to load, so it's fine with me. I don't download much to begin with, and I'm constantly taking things out that I find that I don't like for whatever reason.

I hate clutter so I also take things out. You should see how well organized my entire computer is.

Hacks are relatively small, unless it's a large one like Insimenator.  Hair, skins and objects are usually the biggest type of file, and I have a lot of hair and a whole hell of a lot of objects.

For some reason, I forbid myself to download things for pleasure. I only download things that are necessary.

1.8Gb - now how did that happen?

My worst offender by far is the skins folder - I have an unfortunate addiction to hairs and skintones.

15.8 MB  ;D I knew there had to be some advantages to my entire computer going kaputski and my motherboard having to be replaced.  I lost everything and haven't yet had a chance to re-download - the Sims runs so smoothly and loads so quickly I haven't even got time to get to the fridge (for snacks) and back before it loads.

309 MB and rising.  It would be more, but when I installed OFB I hauled most everything out and started over with a batch of freshly-downloaded hacks.

Mine is 576MB, split almost evenly between genetics/clothing and objects. At one point it was about twice the size but when I renamed and organized all my downloads I deleted a bunch of stuff I never used.

1.39GB here -- I'm a sucker for new hair and clothing... :)

2.61 gygs total, 8060 files in 5675 folders of which 1.82 gygs clothing and hair.

26MB, there's very few objects and even less recolors so that's why it's so low.  The biggest Folder is a MATY dump which comes from people from MATY that aren't Pescado, TwoJeffs, or Crammyboy.

My game loads in about 10 seconds, I think.  The song I used for a test barely even starts and the game is loaded.  Before I fixed the load screen, the first part of the song played through.

I'm constantly trying to clean it up and refrain from downloading things unless they are amazing.

99.4 MB too much. Its those damn default skins I made that takes up half that.

I have come a long way since my 5gig+ days, not to mention the other half a gig I never installed thats still just sitting there hidden inside so many different folders I never see it lol Although I am very slowly putting things back in but in a much more organized manner now. I dont think I can ever return to the 20 or minute load times though. My daughter still likes to play with the cc so she has a folder full and sometimes I forget to take it back out....drives me up a wall.

I have 420 MB in my Downloads folder at the moment, but I can see that growing as so many nice goodies are coming out lately... ;D

The vast majority of it is clothing. I associate outfits with the Sims who've worn them, so I don't like to use the same one twice.

Hey! Me too. Over half a gig on the desktop waiting to be looked at. My sims pretty much have their signature outfit for each life stage and I very rarely use them again. I didn't realise that, maybe that'll help with a cleanup!

Checked my subfolders volume-wise. Largest are Genetics (courtesy of custom skins) and Buy Mode (thanks to Cars), each weighing in at 400-450MB. I'm a car freak, I've downloaded all cars made by Bonus at MTS2 and VirtualJack et al at VitaSims. Their poly count is a subject best left out as I don't want poor Motoki to suffer a fatal stroke, aneurysm and acute renal failure simultaneously.

I've probably got between 6 and 7 GB of downloads... after 3.5 GB the load time was 5 minutes and I decided that was too long. So I divided up the cc into different folders and use different stuff in different versions of the game.  The only things that are in all the game folders are the hacks and the hair.  With just about 1GB, I'm playing in about 90 seconds.  Much better load time.

Heh, SpringCleaning is just over. I have never been so diligent in Spring Cleaning before.

Now its 1.6GB with 6300 files. Most of it is paid content. I have little free stuff because I am so picky that any thing with poor textures and such get booted out immediately.

The game takes 2.5 mins to load. Sometimes when it feels happier, it is about 2 mins.

Yeah, Clean Installer from Mod the Sims.

Scan the downloads folder, then click on the "type" bar at the top, which will sort it into type of file.  Click on the first of a file and move your mouse down a good ways, press shift + click on another file (of the same type), and right-click, move to selected subfolder.

Takes a few minutes.  Well, ok, it may take you a bit longer.  :P

How did you chose to sort yours?

I just used the headings that came up under Clean Installer.
So, if it said "Object recolour" then that's what I called it.
The only exception to this was the custom foods as they were labeled as careers.
Things that didn't have a type were just put in a subdirectory that I named Unknown.

Oh, I forgot...my other windows account has a 1.12GB downloads folder, though about 50% is the same as my other one.  ::)

3.95 gb, and 5gb for the object folder. I feel bad now.

It's usually meshes and some other stuff (stairs, fences, etc) that won't have a description.

Mine has 444MB worth of downloads in, mostly hair, clothing and makeup. (Oh and relevant meshes to said hair and makeup)

57MB atm, but, there is a lot of stuff in there I don't want. Most of the content that is staying is mods, such as the ones provided here. The rest is new clothes for the sims. The problem I forsee is, I just re-installed all the seems like 2 weeks ago and my folder is already this large. I see so much stuff I want to check out! LoL! I think i spend mroe time reading, searching and downloading than I do actually playing.

I had that problem with TS1. I'd happily download for hours a day, but I never felt like installing the stuff or sitting through the load time. It was ridiculous. With TS2 I'm more efficient about downloading, but now I spend more time building houses and making Sims than actually playing, which in my mind is a milder form of ridiculous. :)

Mine is at 591mb with several sub folders.  It's several folders deep in places since I've started sorting.  I haven't gotten around to properly sorting my objects yet though.

I had all my stuff sorted into subfolder for a while, but then it got to where I'd forget everythign i had installed. As the folder grew, it took the clean install longer to look thru everything to find the dupes. It would be nice if when you installed with the Clean Installer that it'd also check subfolders for a package. (maybe it does and I'm just a noob) But, I'll end this here, because I don't want to start an off-topic discussion about the clean installer. heh.

And I thought I had problems! My downloads folder is 3.15GB. I thought that was ALOT, but I'm glad to see that I'm not the worst!  ;)

128MB, 479 files.  Small, I guess, but I've got maybe 100 things I haven't installed yet.

I just wish we could ditch the Maxis crap that we don't use, especially the bad "fashion."

I have 1.84 gig with 7,890 files - quite a few of them are hacks and hair files.  If I ever figure out how to bin my hair, I could probably lose a gig.   ;)

What are your loading times ? As in from the loading screen to neighbourhood view?

I've got 1.96 GB of cc and it takes about 5 or 6 minutes to get to Pleasantview.

My entire downloads folder is 1.69 GB. That includes all hacks, objects, clothes, hairs etc etc.

I wish I'd been more anal and neurotic when I'd started downloading, now I don't know what's what unless it has a specific name, thank god hacks do. I now have a special folder all for them! Yay! ;D

As of right now...*checks* 5.36 gb and 19,803 files.

It takes me about 10,11 minutes to go from cd tray to actually playing a house.  I plan to prune it down to 3 gigs hopefully before the next ep comes out.  Hopefully.

7.79GB. 41,587 files, all in subfolders and sub-subfolders, very neatly organised. I wish my house was this tidy. More than half of it is recolors though, and when I take all the recolors out, the game loads in 7 minutes, with the recolors in, 35 minutes. I'm getting rid of more than half of the recolors now, doing it since last week :D I love having a lot of stuff, in real life I can't possibly afford all that.

While we're talking about this stuff, how much space on your hard drive is taken by TS2 and the EPs?

I freaked the other day when I saw that I'm using about 54 percent of my 80 gig HD - I use that computer essentially for TS2 and my financial matters and not much else.

Sims2folder with backups = 7.12Gb X 2 'cos I save it on two hard drives

Plus I cleaned out about 20Gb to DVD last weekend.

Ok, Jysudo, just for you I went back into my files for my "real" game that had the tons of downloads.  I might have missed a few, but it was at least 8.5 GB... It took about 8 and a half minutes to get from click the icon to choose the neighborhood.  That is what made me decide to weed the downloads into separate games.  All the variations of my game seem to load at the rate of a minute per GB of downloads. 

And just to show how much of a download whore I truly am, I have one partition with nothing but sims stuff on it: uninstalled downloaded objects, houses I haven't installed yet, the compressed files of every house I ever downloaded (all 2200+ of them) and all the backups from installing new EPs.  Oh, and all the versions not currently playing.  That is 15.6 GB of valuable stuff....

Sorry for being nosy ... do you practically use a different Windows account for each "downloads theme" or how did you do that separation? :)
How long did it take to sort all downloads for each game?

At the moment, I collected 408 MB of meshes and hairstyles, 27.8 MB of hacks/bugfixes/annoyance fixes etc and about 4.5 GB of the rest, overall about 20,000 files.
I seriously need to clean or start a-new.

I rename the entire sims2 folder and the game just creates a new one. I have The Sims 2_current and The Sims 2_build

I just rename the one I want to play with to The Sims 2 and I'm away. You can have as many of those sims 2 folders as you like.

I've got a separate folder with subfolders named real game, first alternate game, second alternate game, etc. and just have the whole EA GAMES folder for that version stuck in.  Then I just swap them out when I want to play one of the other versions.  There is also one called clean game for when I want to test something or get yet another version...
