Title: Transparent sims - a doubleheader!
Post by: jsalemi on 2006 April 06, 13:14:40
I've seen this happen in dorms on occasion, where a dormie doesn't become fully visible after comming out of his/her room.  But last night was the first time I had two at once:

The girl on the left is damn near invisble, and at least 'headless', which made for some interesting animations as the spoon rose up to mid-air and back. :)

OMG O.o I don't think I've ever seen one as invisible as the girl on the left, freaky. Now didn't some patch or EP supposedly fix this issue? :P I swear I thought they said they'd fixed it, but it still happens for me with all EPs and every patch every released.

Hmm. I wonder if the transparency can be deliberately induced, and then we can have wraith sims.

Sounds interesting. How are the ghosts getting their transparency?

It happens when they go transparent by going into their rooms, then don't become fully visible again when they come out.

Yes, but ghosts have this permanent semi-transparency. I was wondering how they get that. I remember there's an "Is Ghost" box in SimPE, but I don't remember if there are any other "ghost" options available.

Hmm... that'd have a lot of potential.  If it could be induced, perhaps it would be possible to make an object with the options to set your Sims to different transparancy levels - IE, 90%, 80%, etc.

I had a major malfunction occur in a custom dorm. I wanted to fine tune the design so I used the dormspecifictools booly - the rejig was quite extensive in the end but to my annoyance almost every object that had been moved became invisible during F1 mode, not all the stuff was visible under F2/F3 either so I decided to abort and return to the saved version when I opened the F5 menu: voila! The stuff was all visible again. I tried various debug tools but I couldn't end the misery so I aborted. I haven't succeeded in reproducing the error again; though I haven't actually tried very hard  ::)

*feel free to ignore me if I'm not making sense*

Someone at MTS2 (I don't know who, and I can't check from work) has been making a LOT of transparent objects...Perhaps their method might be used to CAS a transparent sim and SimPE work could do it for already-existing sims?

The person you're talking about is Pfish. http://www.modthesims2.com/member.php?u=22093

At least I hope that's who you're talking about. I used to be able to make translucent/transparent objects in SimPE and he showed me how, but I'm afraid I don't remember everything exactly.

I had this happen too...At certain angles he looked like a black shadow and others he looked like that...All playable sims graduated though so I think he is in limbo or whatever

Here's a hack to make sims behave like ghosts, at least at nighttime: Family Ghost (http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=658). By Eric at InSimenator. It includes transparency and the option to "float" instead of walking.

Eric has also made the Sim Effects (http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=803) hack that's pretty cool.
