Title: Getting really sick of typing in the CD key...
Post by: Edana ni Emer on 2006 March 16, 15:10:08
My game asploded in a BFBVFS, shortly after I used the 'deleteallcharacters' cheat, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall. No big, and I was (obviously) looking to start over anyway.  Too many offspring I didn't bother playing.

Anyway, I go to reinstall, and it gets to 23%, and I get "A problem occurred when trying to transfer the file 'TSData\Res\Sound\Neighborhood.package' from the media.  Do you want to retry to copy the file, or cancel the installation?"  No matter how many times I try hitting 'retry'... nuttin'.

I've tried cleaning the disk, I've tried installing to a different directory, I've tried installing it to a different drive, I've tried booting up in safe mode and deleting all the little leftover scraps of things on the drive I installed it to, I've run PC BugDoctor, I've done everything but sacrifice a chicken and dance around my computer chanting.  That's next on my list of things to try.

I recently got hit with a nasty malware called SpySherrif, but I'd thought I got it all cleaned off, and the major symptoms aren't showing up anymore.

Does anyone have an idea?

Do a manual install. The instructions for that are somewhere on the EAGames Help Section.

Gave it a shot, it didn't work.  Same problem.

Could be a bad disk then.

Note that this is a *reinstall*.  It worked fine before, and there are no scratches on the disk.  It's in mint condition.

Have you tried cleaning the disk or your drive?

Do you have a second CD/DVD drive to use?  Might try that, as that's what I had to do when installing NL.  Darn thing just would not install in my D drive, but when I switched to E, had no problems.

???

When you have uninstalled, make sure you delete your 'Sims 2' folder in your 'My Computer' bit before you install the game again. If I don't do that I always have trouble reinstalling.

Not an issue.   :-\  On advice of the techsupport guy, I tried installing it to my laptop, just to see if it'd work.  It won't *run* it, mind, but the install went through...  I'll be looking into repairing my Windows installation, or just backing up everything I need to keep and wiping C: to start over.

Could you try coping the files?
