Title: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: toriamos on 2006 March 10, 15:10:50 I notice last night that the fish in the fish tanks do not show up. The feed and watch option are there. The restock option is there, but no fish only little bubbles. The sims will feed and watch as if they are there. I thought maybe if I bought a new tank they might show, but they didn't. I was wondering is anyone else having this problem?
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: jsalemi on 2006 March 10, 15:21:04 I don't have OFB yet (on the way from Amazon, finally!), but I've seen a few others here comment about the invisible fish. I think there was a thread about this very issue within the last week. May have scrolled off to the second page by now.
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: miramis on 2006 March 10, 15:25:16 I have the invisible fish bug too, though I only noticed because that Malcolm Landgraab had a fishtank upstairs that I let him keep. Stupid fishtanks have been bugged since TS2 was released (maid obsession) and I hardly use them anymore, in fact I often forget they exist.
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: JenW on 2006 March 10, 15:33:04 I've heard about this too, but I checked it out in OFB myself last night and the fish show up fine for me...in fact I've actually been able to keep them alive for more than two days for once :P
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: toriamos on 2006 March 10, 15:44:18 So, I'm not alone. I had fish before I installed the second NL patch and OFB. Unless a cc fish tank is causing the problem with the installtion of patch or OFB. I only have one fish tank in the game. I'm going to take out cc fish tanks and see if that might be the problem.
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: miramis on 2006 March 10, 15:49:36 I only have the default Maxis fishtank so that can't be it. It may possibly be a problem with some hack I have, though I'm not too bothered with this problem at the moment. I've only just added my CC back in and checked in with my Legacy for the first time since installing OFB so I want to get some playtesting done with that family before anything else.
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Pegasys on 2006 March 10, 18:36:36 I checked my one fish tank in the game yesterday and it works fine. So it may be a hack conflict? Or video card/driver issue?
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Tina G on 2006 March 10, 20:09:11 The fish in my Malcolm's tank are visible. I haven't played anyone else with a fish tank yet so I don't know about others.
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Qwiggles on 2006 April 02, 16:03:51 My fish is invisible! Anyone figure out the culprit or a workaround?
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Simsbaby on 2006 April 02, 17:57:47 Could someone remove their download folder? I don't think this is a maxis issue. :P
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: MissDoh on 2006 April 02, 19:44:55 I don't think it is a Maxis issue either since the fishes are showing in my game. I do know that you have to restock the fishtank in the Landgraab house otherwise they won't show.
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Qwiggles on 2006 April 02, 21:29:43 I took out my Downloads folder and still no fish. I looked at two different families. Bought new fish tanks, restocked, and... nothing. I wonder if those people who lost their fish are by any chance using Gunmod's (or ChocolatePi's) modded light files?
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Li'l Brudder on 2006 April 02, 22:33:50 Well, Gunmod's doesn't work for me, no matter how often I place it.
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Ellatrue on 2006 April 03, 06:21:00 I just want plastic fish, that never die!
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: anelca on 2006 April 03, 11:05:20 i have no fish and i do have Gunmods/Chocolate Pis lighting system....could be it. i could take it out and test, although i can live without the fish anyway
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: eamethyst on 2006 April 03, 17:12:43 The fish in Malcolm Landgrabb's fishtank were invisible in my game as well until they died, then they were visible floating at the top of the tank. I hadn't directed him to restock the tank to begin with, he did it autonomously, and I never bothered to direct anyone to care for them,so after they died, I just deleted the fish tank.
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Hitch on 2006 April 03, 20:49:55 I just want plastic fish, that never die! I'll second that. No feed, no restock, no clean, re-clean, make puddle, mop up, clean again, make new puddle... etc. Just a decoratation the sims can watch if really bored.Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: jrd on 2006 April 03, 21:24:06 Carrigon has a mod which makes fish eternal.
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: pearlbh on 2006 April 05, 13:36:15 Carrigon has a mod which makes fish eternal. Yeah, but can you see them? My fish are invisible too, and I don't have Gunmod's lighting thing (anymore.) Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Qwiggles on 2006 April 06, 00:18:45 Well, I guess that saves me from trying to figure out where my original light files are. Thanks. :)
The only other thing I can think of is the graphics card. But I've had the same one for years and I know I had fish before. I have NVIDIA Geforce 6800 Series. I did update to the driver version 6.14...8195. Speaking of which, before OFB I had weird graphics issue with this driver and I saw posts about rolling back to the previous version. Anyway, post-OFB, no more graphics problems unless, of course, you count the invisible fish. But I'm digressing... Oookkkaaaay, so what do we do now? Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Qwiggles on 2006 April 14, 01:53:28 I found out why my fish was missing! When I installed Gunmod's light hack (as completed by ChocolatePi), there was a userstartup cheat and with it was the line "boolprop useshaders false". I took that out and voila, fish is back. So... I don't know much about what that command was doing or how important it was to the light hack but I think I'd rather have my fish.
Hope this helps some of you. Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Simsample on 2006 April 14, 01:59:29 Wow, that may explain why I have the fish even though I have Chocolate pi/ gunmod's lighting mod. I put the shaders back on as I didn't like not having bumpmapping.
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: twistingsims on 2006 April 14, 02:07:28 My fish are missing too. I don't have any userstartup cheats. I have deleted and replaced all fishtanks and still no fish. Everything else about the tank works fine but no fish.
I don't use boolprop useshaders on. Any suggestions? Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: anelca on 2006 April 14, 02:22:12 hmmm...just checked mine and useshaders is on...no fish
but the chocolate pi addition is set to false i can't remember why this was needed in the lighting mod, maybe for the effects i'll keep mine as it is then because i have no need of the fish really but wonder why the problem only occured after OfB? choc pis edition of the lighting system? change in OfB code? just would be interesting to know Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Tina G on 2006 April 14, 02:44:24 Here's something really strange. Malcom's fish were swimming around as normal. I clicked on the tank to get him to feed them and the only option was 'restock'. So it would appear he had little dead fishies swimming around in his tank! :D After restocking, he was able to feed them normally.
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: ZiggyDoodle on 2006 April 14, 02:48:12 Quote I have deleted and replaced all fishtanks and still no fish. Everything else about the tank works fine but no fish. Forgive me for asking, but did you stock the tank after you purchased it? The one tank I do have works fine, but as I regularly forget to feed the darn things and wind up starving them to death, I have to restock it quite regularly. Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: anelca on 2006 April 14, 02:56:21 ;D...thats why i can't be arsed having them

Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Hitch on 2006 April 14, 15:25:43 My fish dissappered when I installed OFB. They diplayed fine before that. I tried taking out all of my hacks, still no fish. I installed a new video card yesterday (went from a 64MB nVidia GeForce 5200 FX to a 256MB ATI Radeon 9600 Pro). The fish now show again. The invisible fish are a video card issue. Somewhere in the code for video detail, the fish were flagged as requiring a better video card than I had before. It might be fixable, but you'll need to find a talented modder with a weak video card.
(Note: this is just my observation and opinion, it's likely completely wrong. Never believe anything you read on the internet -- not even this.) Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: witch on 2006 April 14, 23:07:21 Oh dearie me, I've never looked, for all I know the maid will have been cleaning an empty fishtank for generations. :D :D :D
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: Simsample on 2006 April 15, 01:05:59 Hitch, I have an FX5200 but I can see the fish. Perhaps it's because I've altered my graphics rules to kid the game into thinking I have a much better video card, so that I can use the pixel shading and bumpmapping.
Title: Re: What's Up With The Fish? Post by: higginsmemberships on 2006 April 15, 11:46:55 Ever since I installed OFB the the game seems to decide what quality the textures will be depending on amount of people on lot, size of lot and amount of furnishings (there are probably more). In my game I have all graphics options on high except: 'reflections' are off, objects on a different floor to the one you are on are set to being invisible and the 'smoother/rougher edges' slider is disabled (my graphics card doesn't support it). I noticed that when I put some of the graphics settings to low the textures go back to normal. So maybe the game is also deciding whether fish are visible or not in this same way? I suppose it would be the option for 'Graphic Effects' that would effect this?
