Title: Two weird things, for the price of one game
Post by: witch on 2006 March 09, 05:09:38
The other night a teen got a phonecall. I got no dialogue box. Then a box pops up asking where the teen wants to go, well it's late, he's tired, I cancelled.

Then I start getting message spam - 'where are you', 'I'm getting pissed', 'I won't be your friend' and so on.
Finally I get the following message - and this is all from a TODDLER!

I was going to post about that the other night then got lazy. Anyway, tonight another weird thing happened. Now when I leave my lots I usually try to save in the early hours of the morning when most sims are asleep. So I enter the lot where there are twin boy toddlers. (Ta to 2J who is directly responsible for many of the multiple births in simnation ;)) I try clicking on the toddlers, the game couldn't find them, finally I look at the parent's bed - only to find...

That second picture is so sweet....reminds me of real life, where the adults have no room in their own bed, because the children take over.

Bet EA/Maxis would love to hear from you!  Look, we have an example of the game actually working as intended

Now I think you should shut up before the rest of us get jealous.  ;)

Edit: PS I just knew someone was going to say it was sweet. :D

Yup, we got a case of stuck toddler. Dad's off to work with one of the boys now. The soundtracks are playing toddlers playing and toddlers screaming, simultaneously.

I might just try deleting Dad.

Edit: Ugly little blighter now I catch a look at him, he'll need sim surgery later!

Iwouldn't say my games is working as intended. It has has it's share of glitches. Just never has anything worth mentioning :)

and the fun don't stop there.
After deleting the characters and reloading the lot - now one of the toddlers has his arms on backwards and his feet sunk into the ground. Maybe he's a spawn of satan.

I was more puzzled as to the strange skin the parents had, until I saw the father dressed for work and realised he was meant to look like that!  Joking apart, this 'glitch' proves that there are so many animations that are simply not being utilised - if this is possible just from a glitch, how come the toddlers & kids can't sleep in their parents bed as a matter of course?  Not all the time, but perhaps if they have nightmares or whatever.  It's the same as when I had a Sim mother sit eating her dinner with her baby across her chest - the baby looked exactly as if it were breastfeeding, so there would be nothing to stop them introducing that into the game.  They need to make use of all these animations in some sort of family pack (which should also introduce a MIDDLE-AGE LIFESPAN ... no, I haven't shut-up about it, I'll never shut-up about it).

Anyway, it's a great picture, very lifelike.

Um, before I have nightmares about this, please tell me what the custom skintone is?  Is it a different zombie skin?  Are they made of sand?

Hey, does anyone remember a site from Sims 1 named Dr. Frankensims that had all the career skins, but also had a face made of sand as the intro screen?  So disturbing.

After I installed the 2nd NL patch, every house that had a toddler in it had the toddler in a parent's arms.  Some of them were in bed, one was playing the drums, etc.  And one of the moms was in bed asleep, the toddler in her arms like you show in your pic, and the toddler had the wabbit in his hands.  The wabbit sounds were playing as well.  I had to wake mom up, and when she stood up, the wabbit was sticking out of her and the toddler's arms went through her.  I had her put the toddler down and everything went back to normal.

I just picked up OFB and dread installing it because every time I put in a patch or install an expansion I get wierd glitches like that.

Thanks, Maxis.  Patches and x-packs should come with a warning label.

I didn't think about the skin, I've used it for so long.  ::)
Yes it's a snakeskin, very well done and looks excellent in the game and I can't remember where I got it from.  ???

I agree Ancient, many things we've never seen, weather, the boss scenario, probably heaps more no-one has discovered yet, though Maxis apparently leave a lot of stuff behind - nothing like cleaning up code of course. Maybe there's even a hidden MIDDLE-AGE group. Don't you ever shut up about it, I want a MIDDLE-AGE life stage too!

OK, here's a weird picture for y'all (oops, gone American again).  This is Pescado's daughter, age transitioning.  For some reason, since OFB the game isn't putting up icons when a Sim is about to transition, so I have no idea when it's going to happen.  I was waiting for it, but nothing appeared to be happening so I was getting her mother to talk to her and the rest to get her back up to platinum, due to the fact that she'd just dropped into gold at 6pm.  Next thing I know, she's transitioning just as her mother is about to snuggle her and after admiring herself, she stood on her mother's head and performed that victory thing they do.  Her mother then put her down as if she was a toddler, whereupon she immediately jumped-up and performed a new action I'd not seen before, "Show Off".  This involved her turning several cartwheels across the floor (not difficult when you're Pescado's daughter and have 10 in Active).

Ancient, I had that transitioning problem just before OFB.  I think that the animation was slowed down in my game due to general performance lag, rather than problems with hacks or the internal workings of the game.  I also had a baby that was almost carried to work by its mother.  I maxed motives to ensure that the toddler came back alive.  Naturally this hood exists no more.  I got rid of all my old hoods when I bought OFB.

sandilou, the babys are just regular sim babys, even if you made Servo pregnant (I know you can do it with InSIm cause Kathy did and posted pics), Servo would just have a regular sim baby  :(

robot babys would have been cool, stupid Maxis

That's bizarre! Does it work the other way round? Surely female robots can't have babies - they wouldn't be robots then.

I don't think they can get pregnant thru normal gameplay, but you can use the Insimentor to "make pregnant" and they will deliver a little sim - I was about to say "human".  :D  :D

That is probably Jeffy's hack at work, because Try for baby definitely does not appear when I'm playing with my Servos, since I do not use such things.

Me too Ancient Sim Ive been asking for a middle age bracket (complete with mid life crisis) for ages....

Umm Witch maybe you need an exorcist!! Might make for an interesting sim movie!!

which hack would that be? I don't think I have any of his relating to pregnancy.

All I know is my daughter had "try for baby" available for her female sim and her sim got pregnant by Servo. I assumed Maxis didn't do a check for Servo being the woohoo partner  ::)
