Title: Purpose/Cause of Empty Packages Post by: idtaminger on 2006 March 09, 00:15:06 Everytime I install lots I get tons of empty packages in my game. I always just delete them, but I was wondering what purpose they served, if any, and why the game keeps creating them?
Title: Re: Purpose/Cause of Empty Packages Post by: Li'l Brudder on 2006 March 09, 01:16:30 They're shells of packages that the game ingested. Like when you eat shrimp, you take off the tails. The package is the tail. Unless you're like Pescado, who I'm pretty sure eats the shrimp, tail and all.
Title: Re: Purpose/Cause of Empty Packages Post by: simmiecal on 2006 March 09, 01:36:05 I think it also happens when someone packages a lot and then goes in and disables some custom content that they don't want to /have permission to share. There are packages that when you see the individual items listed in the Clean Installer (prior to putting the lot in the game) they are in there listed as empty files.
Title: Re: Purpose/Cause of Empty Packages Post by: Sleepycat on 2006 March 09, 04:17:03 I have seen empty packages happen when a file dosen't properly download.
One day I happened to notice my download seemed to get done just alittle to soon, used clean installer as usual and noticed some empty packages. so for the hell of it, I redownload the file and used clean installer again and it didn't have any empty packages. Title: Re: Purpose/Cause of Empty Packages Post by: Scotty on 2006 March 09, 04:37:45 I get alot of them too. I usually clean up my dl folder every couple of months or so if I can, and last time I saw a whole crapload of them. I just deleted them.

Title: Re: Purpose/Cause of Empty Packages Post by: Jysudo on 2006 March 10, 02:37:07 You can just use clean installer to delete the empty packages whenever you install lots. Those are the main culprits.
Other than that, sometimes there are file duplications (I have no idea why) when you use the same object at more than one house. Those will all be marked in pink. You can safely remove all of them. I do that all the time. |
