Title: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: Avie on 2006 February 24, 22:28:54 I just replaced my rubbish GeForce FX5200 card with a Radeon 9800 Pro (Mac Edition) card and damned if all the outfit glitches are gone! BUGGER I rather liked those. No more swimming in bunny costumes. No more going to work in maid outfit.
BORING Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: anelca on 2006 February 24, 23:41:27 ;D ;D ;D
think i'll just hang on to my rubbish card then not that i have any choice...dammed thing is attached to my laptop in unholy matrimony Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: Avie on 2006 February 25, 00:25:19 The new card kicks ass. Perv mac-user.
Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 February 25, 00:31:26 At least now you know why you were getting those wierd outfits!
Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: KellyQ on 2006 February 25, 05:38:37 I have the GeForce FX5200 video card and have never had those problems. I think I recall reading something about the oddness of those outfits appearing at strange times after you had moved an NPC onto your lot.
Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: Scotbo on 2006 February 25, 06:44:57 This sort of problem couldn't possibly have anything to do with your video card. It's an issue with the game itself, not your hardware. Something else must have fixed it.
Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 February 25, 10:31:45 Well, I believe Avie also recently installed Uni - now that may have rewritten some faulty coding.
Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: Avie on 2006 February 26, 20:18:23 That is indeed the case ZZ. University is recently installed. But explain these fixes if they are not due to the new card
!. The pool tool now works properly. 2. The sound dropouts have stopped. 3. The odd glitch with some character portraits is fixed. 4. The costume confusion has stopped. The new card was installed some two weeks AFTER I got University. I was patiently waiting for the card obligingly bought by the husband for my birthday. At least the male of the species is useful for something! Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: ebonyspiral on 2006 February 26, 20:39:50 What kind of mac do you have Avie? :)
I've been really tempted to get the sims2 for my powerbook instead of my pc recently as I only use it for games (well, a game ::) ) now. Apart from the longer wait for the expansion packs, there isn't much difference right? All the mods work the same? Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: Avie on 2006 February 26, 22:15:40 It is a dual-processor G5. A PowerMac.
Most things are the same. G4 PowerBooks can run S2 pretty well. Nothing below a G4 can run it to any acceptable standard Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! At least the male of the species is useful for something! Well, it certainly sounds like the new card was instrumental in affecting these improvements! Did you by any chance happen to delete the groups.cache file at the same time? Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: Avie on 2006 February 26, 23:12:23 Never touched the cache files or interfered with the memory at all.
Just today I put in new memory cards putting the total up to 3 GB (Can you beleive it? £200 for two 1 GB cards) and they are working magnificently. The PowerMac is doing it\s job. Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 February 26, 23:49:42 Sorry, the groups.cache has nothing to do with system caches! It's merely a file that appears in your Sims2 game folder, and can be safele deleted every time you close your game, as it will then generate a new one (the groups.cache tends to store errors) when you start your game again.

Thanks ZephyrZodiac. I never knew that. I just tried it and my groups.cache went down about 25 KB. Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 February 27, 00:40:58 By the time I've finished playing it's about 350-400KB, then when it regenerates it's about 14Kb!
Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: Taz on 2006 February 27, 00:42:32 *Is astounded* And here I was happy with my decrease of 25 KB.
Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 February 27, 00:48:12 Well, maybe you don't have much custom content!

Nothing below a G4 can run it to any acceptable standard Thanks Avie, I think once nightlife is ported I'll move to my powerbook then. I have no problem running world of warcraft on it, apart from maxing the graphics. Wish I could get myself a G5, but I'm lucky enough to have one at work at least. Shame my boss wouldn't be too pleased if I took my sims to the office ;) Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: Simsbaby on 2006 February 27, 02:09:47 It is a dual-processor G5. A PowerMac. Hey! My old 1ghz ibook g4 runs it fine! Sure I can't have all the fancy settings on, but a lot of the badly made maxis houses play fine. Most things are the same. G4 PowerBooks can run S2 pretty well. Nothing below a G4 can run it to any acceptable standard Title: Re: Gahh this new card is no fun! Post by: Avie on 2006 March 02, 20:47:25 Yeah a G4 WILL run S2 pretty good, I have an older G3 iBook that cannot even install S2 let alone run the programme!
Far too graphics-hungry for older iBooks, And surprisingly graphics-heavy for what it actially does. Who would think that rendering a modest doublewide trailer would take as much processing power as Doom 97 or whatever> |
