I'm pretty bummed out.  :-\ Oh, well maybe it will be more of a surprise this way when they "officially'" announce what the next ep will be. Maybe they don't know what they're doing next yet. I loved opening the box and finding out *surprise* what the next EP will be. Oh, well. Mind you, I always knew before I opened the box because of websites like snootysims, but still. I really want to know what they're planning on doing. What do you think the next ep will be? Why do you think they didn't place the next ep ad in the box?

On one hand, I'm sorta glad they're not advertising it, I think it sort of takes away from enjoying the current EP.  But I hate surprises too, so I'd rather know what was coming it.

I agree with you BlueSoup; ever since I bought NL I have been counting the days until OFB because I think it looks so cool, it kind of sucks some of the fun out of the EP that you actually have in your hot little hands. But I still love knowing and anticipating what the next EP is going to be.

That screenshot is fake. There is no OFB box, because there's no OFB. Period.

That sounds like USDA Grade A to me. That's just propaganda. There's no such thing. The usual sources report no such creature, so this is obviously nonsense. Especially since SnootySims is a well-known rumor-mongering site that has been making stuff up for a long time now.

Maybe there is no expansion pack after OFB...

I don't know about Switzerland, but there's no OFB in Austria. I live in a neighboring country and visit there to pick up my games (it's cheaper than buying them here ._.), and it wasn't in shops at the beginning of this week.

Okay, so part of the ad for Family Fun on Snootysims says "redesign your living room with upscale nautical furnishings." WTF? Pirate chic? Nothing can be upscale if it reminds you of Cap'n Spanky's Fish n Chips Hut. That made me laugh.  :D

ETA: Oh no! The twins cheat rears its ugly head again! Maybe they did that to shut the kids up.

Yeah, Spore looks quite interesting so I'll definitely be getting it when it comes out. I like the idea of creating your own unique creature - add a leg, a couple of eyes and big teeth - noice!

Wow, that advertisement REALLY wants me to buy the Family Pack now.  Also, doesn't it strike anyone else odd that it's in English and not in the language that they speak over there?  Could easily be photoshopped.

There's still hope for an expansion announcement though.  That picture looks like it's on the back of the manual and not the jewel case.  Perhaps they'll put an expansion announcement on OFB's jewel case when it gets released stateside.

raye1forTS2 has apparently made a video with OFB.  Has anyone seen it?  Videos from the official site dont work for me.

If it's the one that is on Snooty's site. Yeah. Didn't show too much that we hadn't already seen in the Maxis promo videos - some shots of the new neighborhood, a couple of shots of the new items all lined up ( a picture would have been better than a video - hard to focus in on the items when the video shot isn't that long nor a close-up of the items) and a couple of chair make-overs. It was a nice idea by the person who created it - to show what the game had - but there wasn't anything too "new" in the video.

I'm assuming they're going for Nantucket beach house-nautical as opposed to Pirate-nautical. More prep than pirate. I personally find the style pleasing, but I wouldn't decorate my own house in it. I'm more fond of an island feel when it comes to beach houses. I have a bit of a soft spot for rattan furniture...

Just 'cause there's a guide doesn't mean there's a game. Prima might just be publishing random books.

Plus, if you do an Amazon.co.uk search for OFB, you can see that the Prima guide came out first (though no one will be able to get it for 4-6 weeks)! See below if you can't be bothered to load up Amazon.co.uk.

Walmart in Mt.Vernon,Virginia will have OFB on the shelves March 2,2006 .I checked with them andthe electronics manager looked it up and gave me that date as the official release date for OFB in the U.S.

I thought it was weird that it was in English, too. It looks ligit to me, though. That picture is one of those little cards they put inside the DVD-ish looking case like the one Nighltife came in. It's the same shape as the card advertising OFB was in the Nightlife case. At least where I live, there are no jewel cases with EP's anymore. I doubt there's going to be an expansion pack anouncement.

Just had a report posted on thesims2 LJ community by someone whose brother-in-law manages a GameStop that his store is taking pre-orders for this Family Fun pack.

I'd be more enthused about the idea if I didn't keep hearing that the Holiday pack was buggy as all getout.

Maybe that's why it takes so long before you get the EPs. Takes that long to find a source you trust to tell you that the game actually exists.

I've seen (and gotten) better looking furniture at the Well Dressed Sim and The Sims Resource for free.

What Maxis oughta do if they *REALLY* want to rake in the big bux is to run a TSR style downloads page with exclusive Maxis products...did I mention it would only be availabe for a monthly fee? Maybe have a rotation like TSR has so that other players can get certain objects for free, but they only offer one or two items that are part of a set, and if you want the rest you have to *subscribe* to their Downloads page.

Wonder how the Sheeple would react to that? I bet half would be howling bloody murder and threaten to boycott Maxis, and the other half would be kissing Maxis butt and signing up to be a monthly subscriber. What say you?

EA games is trying a different direction. No more EPs. They will instead dedicate their time to fixing the games already released.

They do indeed, that's where I got NL... although they didn't get it in early then.  I'll have a look on Thursday as well as I wander past every day but I can wait till Friday if I have to :D

But those booster packs are very hard to protect from pirating. Anyone with a 2nd grade education can get the x-mas pack in an hour on the internets if they feel like breakign the law and risking 50k in fines and 20 years of sodomy (or whatever the FBI wants to do with you)

With a CD/DVD release they can have many more sales.

Although, these aren't the brightest people. I mean, you can get all th eobjects just by downloading lots that have them off the exchange. :rolleyes:

well, if they package the booster packs next time like EP where we got to have a serial number and to use the CD to play, perhaps there will be less pirating. To be honest, I am a bit surprised that the holiday pack didn't come with a serial number and requires the disc to play. Anyone have any idea why?

btw, if you don't buy the holiday pack, you won't get the new behaviors such as the peeing santa , the lamb and the sparklers - which is why people buy the holiday pack.

Simple: Because it's just a content pack which must be compatible with all expansion packs. Let's suppose it *DID* require a disk to play: How are you going to then demand the disks of the other expansion packs? If I have to insert the Holiday Pack CD, how am I going to insert my NL CD?

Plus, all it does is install a .package file into your TS2 original directory, so it doesn't change executable code at all.

I thought it did, a mac user on another site moved the package file. But only the objects showed up, no santa with a bladder the size of a ant.

Regardless, its stupid. This thread made me load up some x-mas crap for the first time last night.

Santa came to my torture dorm (16 Dormies with no beds and no bathroom access, and one playable sim with access to a huge bedroom/spa/games room, and nouniinvuln turned on). He wandered around, pissed about 6 times, left another stereo (whihc I didn't need since all the rooms except the playable sim's bedroom have stereos blaring non-stop) and then buggered off.

The interestign thing is that the tree caught fire, out on the lawn, all the dormies ran over but my sim was happily in the hot-tub. Then my sim burst into flames and died, on the opposite side of the lot from the fire, in a  hot tub....

Going back to what Pescado said about the Holiday pack...Does this mean that if you remove the .package file, It will remove all of the holiday content?  Or is there anything else I should note if I decide to remove it til next holiday season?

I've gotta laugh but on a serious note this has happened to me before and pissed me off.  Something caught fire..a sim picked up a toddler and rushed it outdoors, clear the the sidewalk...a billion feet away from the fire and suddenly just burst into flames.  Yeah.

I think this may depend on whether your sims are filled with helium or hydrogen.

Apparently there's no expansion announcement when it got Stateside either.  Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait for them to announce it now.

Making the main site pay is a really good idea, It'll save them money on bandwidth costs and they'll get even more money.  Even if 50% of the people on the BBS object, there's still more money to be made there.  Chances are, even if they object they'll still buy the expansion and just go to MTS2 or something to get objects.

I haven't really heard that much about Sport until I read that article, and it makes TS2 look like a big pile of crap.  If I can run the thing (It sounds like it'll require more CPU power than TS2, not to mention a faster graphics card) I'll definately get it.  If it's gonna be how they say it is, It'll be possible to create the Zerg from Starcraft, and have them wage war against the Protoss and et cetera...

 I think Spore may be an excellent game.    I have been watching for over a year to see when they are going to release it.     I think Will Wright may have taken his original team with him when he left Maxi to develop it.

It's not any less of vaporware than TS2 was during its initial phases.  Supposedly TS2 took about 3 years to make.

Why should they put out another Ep when they can put out a 'pack' instead. The pack takes much less time to develop and they sell it (and simmers buy it) for almost the same price as the EPs.

I might give it a shot, I was a huge fan of the 1st one that was release too many years ago....

Civ 4 is great, once you install the latest patch that is.  I've been fancying Spore myself, and C&C: RA3 is another I'm keeping my eye out for.

I don't like Civilization 4.  It always seems that when I try to be peaceful the faction next to me always attack and whenever I constantly produce military units I get behind in technology and wealth.  Also, it seems that you have to make 10 million military units to take a base when attacking a computer, and they can take yours with only 2.

I wasn't even aware they were making a C&C:Red Alert 3.

I suck at Civ 4  ;D  But I do have an enjoyable time playing.  I don't like the later ages, once it gets to tanks and the like I'd rather start again.  If you want them to give you some breathing room turn on raging barbs, give them something else to think about.  Read the strategy threads at Apolyton.net for great advice. 

Yup, C&C:Red Alert 3 is in the works (EA GAMES).  It was announced in e-mails to the C&C fanbase and various bits of information can be found via Google.  Apparently it's still early days with that, though the website is up and possibly the forums.

And WoW is far too easy. Its like playing ts2 while using all the cheats. Decent to look at but no depth or challenge.

which level are you playing?
They attack you because they think you are weak. If you are constantly producing those unit, why not bring ur ass to their land and quash them first? they can't take you with 2. not with ur cultural bonus. I think your strategy is somewhat screwed. Must read the forums posts for tips.

Civ 4 combat is so different compared to Civ3. Give me my stack of doom, baby! But Its more realistic and challenging now.
Yeah, w/o those patches, the game is shit. but I been hooking myself with Sims 2 and havent got back to Civ4.
When I got Civ4, I was so mad and obsessed that I took leave from work to play ...hahhaha.

I think Civ4 is so challenging. My other half plays at Deity level. can you believe that?I could never reach there....in a million years.

If you go into custom game you could try playing for the culture or diplo win instead.  With the last patch there were a couple of extra options added to the custom game too, you can disable war altogether (Always Peace) if you wanted.  This would give you a chance to learn the ropes more fully without worrying about military.  An early take-over of a neighbour can greatly help too (I wiped out a civ with 1 warrior once, they had nothing fortified in their only city  :o)

I usually play on Noble, but maybe I should actually try playing the game again since I haven't played once since they patched the thing.  I've actually taken a look at the CivFanatics forums for strategies but when I use those I must be doing something wrong because I get owned even worse than when I just don't use a strategy.

How is suiciding catapults realistic?  They were worthless the last time I played them.

Suiciding catapults are great, the ones that survive often get promoted and with the right promotions and luck can turn into wicked city attackers.  Civ Fanatics is another good site, though I tend to favour Apolyton.  Possibly because I've known of it longer and my favourite CTP mods were there *grin*.

Capapults were useless in 3 but very powerful in 4. you need them to break down the cultural bonus of the cities.
I am playing at noble or monarch. I haven't win at Monarch yet though. Should really try.

Mine is the Saladin. Very powerful combination as well as the Chinese. I love the chinese.

I have a couple of favourites.  Saladin, the guy with the Keshik (Kublai Khan?).  Isabella is my absolute favourite but I like to randomise my civs mostly to learn how they work.  I'm playing on prince at the momentI think, but sometimes go down a level or two after too much time has passed between games.  I'm very forgetful.

I'm afraid Pescado is right.  There is no "Open For Business" expansion pack.

Even worse, there is no "Sims 2" game.  It's all a terrible scam by EA.  I just loaded up my "Sims 2" game, and saw this:

I used to play a good text based mud called Ashavars Legacy.  Spent many, many happy hours playing that, before TS2 came along to suck up my life.

Heck, I used to play (and love) the Zork games back on an Apple II.  They were just never quite the same when they came out with graphics versions...

You are worse than me! At least i installed them. and played for a couple of days/weeks before I miss my sims. The max time I been away from the sims were (drumroll) a grand total of  2 weeks (only). It was when Civ 4 first came out.

It must have been near ten years ago, it was on AOL and you could have one character per screenname, as I recall. I was a cleric then; my sister always liked the bards. I did actually do the pay version a couple times, once as a cleric again and the second time, much more recently, as barbarian. Quite fun, actually, but I could never keep up with it or find a group to fight in, and the furthest I ever got was seventh circle.

That would explain it.  Mind you, I started out with a Ranger and a Thief Rogue in Gemstone, then dropped that (I couldn't really afford the $300-$400 monthly bills I was getting anyway for so many play hours) and moved to DR with a Thief.  Though when they made some change to the experience system (I forget exactly what happened), I used that opportunity to work the dickens out of my Thief and finally got her to 20th or 21st circle (and got that spiffy new title), and started a Moon Mage, which became my main character (hey, you have got to LOVE being able to kill anything with one shot of TKT, even using moldy cake , tufts of grass, and clover sprigs as ammunition [at the time, anyway]), not to mention gating people across the chasm on the way to Shard.

I think I was up to a thief, MM, cleric, and empath by the time I finally cashed in my chips and went cold turkey, and that included several bodies set aside simply to sit on the ships crossing the pond to the islands so I could check in and see approximately how long I'd have to wait for one to hit port.  Ah, remembering that original 4-hour trip over, pockets so weighted down with coin that I had to have some brawny fella haul me to my feet because my burden was so high....

I really miss it sometimes, but they're right.  Becoming a GM really does take some of the sparkle off things, and it's hard to properly rant about the state of things when you've got projects out the wazoo waiting for you to finishing coding, testing, etc.

No, not Roberta Williams making it, but a nod from Ken Williams is pretty good!  KQ8, Mask of Eternity came out in '98 according to my cd sleeve, so 8 years is a long time between sequels.  Will have to get it when it comes out, just to see if it's up to the KQ standard!

Thanks for the link!  Last I had heard, when Sierra was bought out, all the great games the Sierra team had been doing were just going to disappear.  I checked for awhile after that, but gave up after a few months (or maybe a year).  I think their website had said something to the effect that they wouldn't be doing any more adventure games.

It's been awhile, so I'm not sure if that's correct or not, just what I seem to remember about it.

Edit:  Just read a little more on that website, and yes, I remembered correctly.  Nice to know it will be freeware, too!
