More Awesome Than You!

 What gives? I started a new MATY hood under a new user account, everything fresh. I installed Enayala's default skins and some default eyes, then I downloaded a half dozen or so MATY self sims. Everybody shows up in CAS with the default skin except Brynne. I've tried both version 2 &  3. Poor Brynne, she looks so pale and peaked next to all the other shiny simmies. Do any of you awesome people know why she doesn't want to conform? And what I might try to fix this? (no SIMPE, sorry)
 I exited without saving in hopes that this could be remedied  :'(

You have to know, that Brynne NEVER conforms, with any group - she is too special!!!  :D :D :D

Downloadable sim-Brynne probably comes with her own custom, non-default skin. Because apparently, Brynnes prefer being pasty as opposed to oily.

Could I skin her? Sorry Brynnne! Maybe go into her file and pull out that long string of numbers that I think is her skintonetone and replace it with a copy of the long string of numbers that belongs to one of Enaylas skintones? (hand over my lips because I am so not technical...)

Brynne's a cool Sim, and if you finally get her working, then be sure to download the fixed hair mesh in her thread.  :)

 Anyway got the hair fix a day or so ago. Thank you so much for doing that, it's one of my favorite styles!

you could try and find the custom skintone in your downloads folder that got installed with her and delete it  ;)  She will then have a default skintone which would be one of Enaylas since you have her default replacements  ;D

I just reread that. Skin me ?! Like for a coat or something? Hell no! No, no no. There will be no Brynne coats, belts, boots, wallets, NOTHING.

Couldn't you simply select a default skintone while in CAS for Brynne? That's what I did with MATY sims who had custom skintones.

No Brynne panties, either! Although, that does sound sexy...

The only problem with that is the game will pull a random default skin.  So Brynne could end up with quite the suntan :)

Your first suggestion (changing the numbers) will work.  Except you don't put Enayla skin tone number, you put the number for whatever default skin you want.  It's something like 0000-0000-0001 (please doublecheck that I pulled it out of my a-- err my mind).  You need to change that in the Sims DNA.  There are 4 lines to be changed.

Why not just open bodyshop, then open up the Brynne Sim, then change it there and re-save the sim and delete the original?  It's a lot quicker than messing with the file in SimPE, although you do have to rename it later if you want it to be categorized.  Then again, .Sims2Pack gives you weird names anyway.

Either that, or people could stop using custom content in .Sims2Pack files.

Changing skins in CAS or Bodyshop doesn't work very well if the sim is already in the game. Once a sim is in play, the only way to change the skin is through SimPE. If one has Nightlife, the amount of changes needed in SimPe are minimal as skin DNA changes will take effect on apparence as soon as the sim is played again.

It's not that I don't like CC being used on Sims, it's the fact that whenever it's packaged on a sim it's usually in a really long name which makes it undistinguishable from the actual sim file.  Not to mention there's another way to package a sim without doing that Sims2Pack business which you can still use custom content but it just won't show up if they don't have it.  Then again, it'll stick them with default clothing and different colored skins.  Plus, there's people that just plain hide the fact they have CC.

As for existing sims, it's either edit the DNA or use SimSurgery.. but SS will end up with a copy of a sim if I remember correctly.

Oooh! How do you do that?

It takes a bit longer than just throwing everything in a .Sims2Pack file but it allows for easier organization.

1)Boot up TS2.
2)When TS2 loads go to a neighborhood and enter the debug code.  If you don't know it already it's "boolprop TestingCheatsEnabled true".
3)Boot up CAS.
4)Press Shift-N.  This activates the Debugging Mode.
5)Go to the sim in the Sim Bin as if you were selecting them, but hover over them and read the data.  It should look something like this.  Keep in mind that I've already done this process to this sim,but you'll get a Jarbled Mess for other sims.

Frag Prod ID = 0
Frag Sort Idx = 3982
C:\Documents and Settings\*Secret*\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\MisterExpert\MrE_EdwardJosephine.package

6)That last little bit is the filename.  Write down that name/path somewhere.
7)Repeat Step 5 for any other sims.
8)Close TS2
9)Find the file(s).  Rename the file(s)
10)Rezip the file.  This new file will respond to the custom content that is listed in the package if it's there, but it'll default if it doesn't find it.  Essentially, it's just the sim.

That's all there is to it.  If you want to double check, then repeat Step 5 for anything that's been changed.

 I had removed my downloads folder when I pulled up Byrnne originally in CAS, and I was not showing as having any custom skintones available, and I could not change her to the correct default color. Every time I clicked on skintone2 I got the custom skin.
 So I tried taking the skintone package out of her folder but that did not work for me.
 Strangely enough when I put my downloads folder back in she was now showing as having a custom skintone and I COULD change to change it to the correct default skintone ???
 Anyway she's now shiny, and I'm happy cuz I found 20 new custom skintones in the MATY download folder to play with (thank you simmiecal) And thanks guys for all your suggestions
