Title: is there a flamingo fix?
Post by: Ellie on 2006 February 10, 10:45:45
I've only recently started using macrotastics and with it the smashing pink flamingos.
But after a while, the flamingos all become unclickable and the sims won't kick them anymore, resulting in cancellation of the macrotastics action. So I have to delete and rebuy the flamingos every few sim days which is extremely annoying.

I've been wondering that there doesn't seem to be a fix for this. Does it only happen in my game? If so, how come?

This happens for everyone. Flamingoes are simply unstable.
I usually fix them by forcing an error, you may also chose to use the gnome instead.

JM says this is due to one side of the flamingo getting "jammed."  He says kicking it from the other side will usually fix it.  Sometimes rotating it will do the trick.  Forcing an error as Jordi suggested works for me sometimes, but not always.  I usually have several flamingos in case one is being used.  Sometimes you have to experiment to find the best placement for your lot.  I haven't used gnomes too much.  In the beginning, I quit using them because they were always getting stolen, but now that I have SaraMK's no gnome theft mod, I might try them again.

ok, thanks!
so apparently it can't be fixed as it hasn't been already ;)

i might try the gnomes and look for the no theft mod. i just hate how they look, but they can't be much worse than the flamingos ;)

Why not try the Jack Thompson gnome from TSZ2, then you can get fun points too! ;D

I rathre like it when sims march off determined to retrieve their gnome!  Just wish they could do the same when someone kicks over their trashcan - follow the perp until they've caught him and beaten the daylights out of him!  (or her!)  And I wish there was a hack to mail the roaches to the trashcan kicker!

I find it amusing, too, so I'm working to make it a manually issuable command so you can tell them to go retrieve the gnome yourself.

Usually, though, I lock my gnomes away from theft because my sims need them for the fun.

The stealing aspect, however, so amuses me that I plan to make an entire object and set based around: The Sims 2: CTF!

Designate families to belong to the RED or the BLUE team by buying them a flag stand and placing it in their yard. Then, sims from the other team will periodically appear to try to STEAL THE FLAG, and, of course, take it back home to their base. When a team is in possession of both flags for an adequate length of time, they score a point. The flags are then returned and a new round begins.

Of course, members of families without a team cannot understand what on Earth the fuss is about and react with "You're crazy!" when they observe others engaged in flagging action, and when playing the lots of those without flags, you may see flag-related walkby events as a sim runs by the lot carrying the enemy flag, perhaps pursued by members of the other team! Think of it as a silly ongoing mini-game that the sims play which carries across the entire neighborhood!

Wow, this sounds absolutely wonderful!  I for one can't wait for you to finish it and ask us to try it out! ;D

Capture the flag could be the culmination of the game!

Now that actually might make it interesting, instead of utterly annoying and pointless as it is now.

Would the winners receive a reward?  Like a certificate to hang on the wall?

Oooh OOoh! I want it!

Question - (unrelated to CTF) Why don't sims run off to reclaim their stolen newspapers?

Let me ask you something: What thing is normally missing from a stock Maxian bathroom? Now what do you think happens to those stolen newspapers?

Good point. I don't want my newspapers back.

Since every lot gets a newspaper, those sims that feel impelled to steal them must be very desperate for a second crossword!

Too bad they don't get logic points for them.

Er... the crossword? That does give logic points.

Just very slowly.

What I meant was, if they were stealing them to do the puzzle as ZZ said, it was too bad they didn't get them because they aren't playable sims at that time.

I thought toilet paper would be too "sissy" for someone like Pescado.

Well, there's always Izal!  (The pre-soft loo paper stuff) which I think you can still get in some places!)

Failing that, used sandpaper? empty paper bags? Out-of-date telphone directories?
