Title: Anyone remember this school bus hack?
Post by: AllenABQ on 2006 February 10, 06:08:13
It wasn't a JMP hack, I think.

There was a hack that forced children getting off the bus to walk away from the bus door before checking their homework/grades.  This was quite useful because if you had a lot of kids + afterschool friends getting off the bus, it would only take a few game minutes for the bus to unload everyone instead of a game hour!

Anyone know if that hack was ever updated for NL and where I might find it?

thanks!

Yeah, that was JM's. I think it's the "no cheering" hack. I think. But definitely JM's.

Argh... OK...

I just looked at Dr. Boris's list and nocheeringhack is under "Finally is list of things that will not be supported due to nonusefulness, obsoleteness, or workload requirements"

It's last incarnation was for University.

Can anyone attest to it working with NL?

(Personally I can't see how this hack would be nonuseful, and it wasn't made obsolete. Maybe it was discontinued for workload?)

I kept it in, and it works fine. No problems.

I think the part that was obsoleted was the cheering of the A+ report card. With NL or the patch, now they are only supposed to cheer the A+ the first time they get it, not every time.

And yet, it's still obnoxious and overdone.

I had that mod, and the version I had wasn't the no cheering mod.  I have no clue, though, now just what it was!  :P

I think it may have been called something else, before. I was looking for this hack a while back, and I think it was Rainbow who told me that the "no cheering hack" had the kids move away from the bus. I had taken that one out because it was "obsolete". But I reinstalled it, and they did move away from the bus.

Brynne, that's good to know!  I'll have to put it back into my game.

Hmm, yes. I think I'll roll that feature into the assorted carpool fixes.

So is it the no cheering hack that does this, currently? I'm pretty sure that's what it was, but sometimes my brain doesn't work right.  :P

The nice thing about the cheering is the utter indifference of the parents. Not even a "that's nice dear". All that's missing is a dejection animation.

I thought Two Jeff's school bus dialogue hack did the same thing.  Moved the kids away from the bus door so everyone else could get off too.
