Title: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Ambular on 2006 February 03, 02:51:35 Okay, well, nobody over at MTS2 seems to know, so maybe someone here will deign to point and laugh and explain why this isn't possible.
Could a Sim be made to glow? I mean, just walk around emitting light like an ambulatory floor lamp? Doesn't matter if it's the skin or the clothes or the hair or even full-face makeup, as long as the effect is that the dude shines wherever he goes. Anybody know? I'm not afraid to muck around in SimPE but I haven't done that much with it yet... Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: ThyGuy on 2006 February 03, 02:55:50 It sounds like a good idea but you'll likely just be ignored instead unless it's something they find interesting.
Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Ambular on 2006 February 03, 02:58:03 Well, at least here I can be scorned by awesome people instead of schmucks. XD
Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: BlueSoup on 2006 February 03, 02:59:03 The only way I can think of (being largely non-awesome myself) is to hack the toddler smart milk glow and make it available for adults somehow. I asked Pescado and he said he didn't know.
But he wasn't really concentrating either, mostly ranting about hard drive destroying. :P Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: twojeffs on 2006 February 03, 03:00:33 *twojeffs points and laughs.
However, I don't see why it couldn't be done although I'm not sure what the point of it would be. Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: simmiecal on 2006 February 03, 03:01:15 What about the glow when a sim scopes the room as sees someone they find attractive?
Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Ambular on 2006 February 03, 03:01:40 *twojeffs points and laughs. However, I don't see why it couldn't be done although I'm not sure what the point of it would be. I want God to live in my neighborhood. XD Edited: Smart-milk or attraction glow would work fine too. I'm not picky. Though actual lamp-type light would be my first choice. I poked around in a lamp package and found some stuff dealing with light, but it's far beyond my understanding as yet. Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Paperbladder on 2006 February 03, 03:08:14 Well, it's not really glowing but could object just stick an invisible lamp into the middle of a sim, making them some sort of moving light or something? I personally think that would look better than having stuck-milk sparkles or the nightlife sparkle thing. Then again, you might want that effect. I know nothing about the SimAntics code so I don't even know if sticking a lamp in the middle of a sim is possible.
Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: TaWanda on 2006 February 03, 03:50:35 I want God to live in my neighborhood. XD Can't help you in the least but I wanted to say I find your idea intrigues me. Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Ambular on 2006 February 03, 03:56:34 I want God to live in my neighborhood. XD Can't help you in the least but I wanted to say I find your idea intrigues me. Heh, thanks. I figured, what the hey, I've already got angels, demons, Apocalyptic Horsepersons and personifications of dead Norse and Egyptian gods hanging around, might as well go all the way and add Him Above and Him Below as well. (Though how I'm going to manage a perpetually burning Sim who never dies I'm not sure.) XD Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Gwill on 2006 February 03, 04:15:21 I've had glowing teens.
Sometimes when teens drink elixier of life, the glow gets stuck, and they keep glowing until they grow up. I haven't had it happen in a while though. It's probably fixed in a patch or something. Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Ambular on 2006 February 03, 04:21:05 I've had glowing teens. Yeah, there are several ways for Sims to get a glow in the game. I just need one that stays. Isn't the elixir glow green, though? :) Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Gwill on 2006 February 03, 04:22:23 The elixier is green, but I think the glow is blue.
I don't really remember. Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Gwill on 2006 February 03, 04:23:36 What about the glow when a sim scopes the room as sees someone they find attractive? I think that's the most godly glow. Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Ellatrue on 2006 February 03, 04:52:55 Yeah, I really like the scope room glow too. But maybe the smartmilk glow would be easiest to program?
Not that I know anything about it. Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: rohina on 2006 February 03, 06:03:56 It would be funny if you stuck the scope room glow on "god" and that meant that everyone thought he was hot.
Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Gwill on 2006 February 03, 06:05:48 Yeah, I really like the scope room glow too. But maybe the smartmilk glow would be easiest to program? Not that I know anything about it. I would think the attraction glow would be easier, as it's actually meant to be applied to adults, unlike the toddler glow. I never thought about it before I saw this thread, but I'd quite like having god walking around my hood. Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Ambular on 2006 February 03, 06:07:32 It would be funny if you stuck the scope room glow on "god" and that meant that everyone thought he was hot. ;D Well that's not really what I had in mind, but yes, it would be funny. XD Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Gwill on 2006 February 03, 06:09:21 *twojeffs points and laughs. However, I don't see why it couldn't be done although I'm not sure what the point of it would be. Just think of it as a movie making tool. ;) Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? I haven't had it happen in a while though. It's probably fixed in a patch or something. I've got Cassandra Dreamer (nee Goth) stuck with a blue glow but unlike you I don't want it. I'll try ageing her up & then back down again to see if that gets rid of it. Cheers for the idea ;) Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: JaneSims on 2006 February 03, 11:09:40 I think they glow when they get electrocuted, too. Maybe that could work?
Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: eaglezero on 2006 February 03, 12:05:03 Heh, thanks. I'd love to see any screenshots you may have of the characters in this neighborhood -- sounds wild! Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Venusy on 2006 February 03, 13:15:59 This mod (http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=803) will allow you to add the various effects to a sim, but I'm not sure which effects it includes, and if the chosen effect stays if the sim travels to a community lot.
Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Renatus on 2006 February 03, 14:07:20 Once, when I had a sim take an energizing medicine from Shaklin's medicine cabinent (had to see what it did!), she had a persistent blue sparkly glow around her for days. It was interesting and more than a little eerie.
Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: TaWanda on 2006 February 03, 21:44:22 Glowing sims also suggest all sorts of possible sci-fi uses to me, such as mad scientist experiment gone awry, victims of radioactive fallout, glowing aliens, etc. Could be interesting, very interesting....
Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: SaraMK on 2006 February 03, 22:17:37 I want glowing sims!
I don't know what for, but after reading this thread I just really want them. :D Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Sagana on 2006 February 03, 22:29:10 <sigh> I could swear I've seen a site that had glowing sims - fairy sims, I believe - a blue fairy specifically, I believe.
But I've been looking since I saw this thread and I can't find it :( I haven't yet played a fantasy theme so I haven't bookmarked them - just scrolled by looking for something else. Maybe it was really just a story pic or something... or I'm just insane. But I really thought there was one. Nobody else has seen it? Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? I've got one GO-themed neighborhood that's vaguely canon-ish and another tailored for a Good Omens RPG I'm in. XD I don't have a lot of in-game shots but there's some stuff from both hoods and BodyShop under the first link. Oh wow, thanks!! It includes the blue Elixir Success glow and a "beam of light" that follows a Sim around. It's not precisely what I had in mind, but much better than nothing. Haven't tried it on a Community Lot yet but I will. :) Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Syera on 2006 February 04, 01:28:47 Hmm... might it not be possible to program an object that would allow you to attach glows of various hues to your Sims and remove them again? That could be rather nifty... not to mention pretty darned shiny. (Though arguably useless except for artistic purposes, heh.)

Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: akatonbo on 2006 February 05, 04:28:24 The attraction glow effect is a particularly nice one. I'd like to have the ability to use that at will myself.
That effects object linked to above also looks like it'll provide me some amusement. Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: SaraMK on 2006 February 05, 05:20:38 I just looked at the effects object from the InSIM site, and it does allow you to have a sim glow in SEVERAL ways. Plus there are smoke effects. And there are Lightbeams, which look all sparkly and perfect for an angel or god/goddess. I first thought that might be the attraction glow, but it's the beam that comes for dead sims.
EDIT: Hey, you can mix black smoke with white smoke for a really weird effect. Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: harmless on 2006 February 10, 23:38:45 harmless' handy-dandy no-hacks-needed 100% tested:
How to Make Your Sims Glow Blue This is a glitch that sometimes occurs when you have a Sim drink the Elixir of Life. It took me a minute to figure out how to make them do it every time. Step 1: When they are in a Gold or Platinum Mood pause the game then make sure your Sim isn't wearing what you want them to sleep in (i.e. no pajamas or undies - this is important!) and that you have the Elixir in the bedroom (actually last night I had a Sim drink from one downstairs and then go straight to bed upstairs and the same effect still happened so maybe the most important thing is just the order - drink, then sleep but put it in the bedroom to be sure!). Step 2: Queue up "Drink Elixir", followed immediately by going to bed; clicking on it and choosing "Sleep in Pajamas (or Undies or Naked, as long as your Sim isn't already in it!)". Step 3: Fast Forward (use the >>> or hit '3' on your keyboard). They'll drink the Elixir then immediately head for bed and spin into the their sleepwear causing the blue glow to stick to them. To end the effect just have them drink from the elixir again while in gold or platinum. If you can't get it to work, you just ain't doing it right. ;) I've done this with over 15 Sims, mostly by accident ::) and it has worked every time. Got pics if you need proof. :-* Now to mess with SimPE for those other cool effects you guys are talking about. I wonder if you have a Sim 'Scope Room' right as the Sim they are attracted to is getting into bed if the same thing will happen. Seems like it would be hard to get the timing right. I love to experiment on the lil' bastages. ;DWhat most people get wrong when trying this is that they forget to use fast forward to unpause the game. Unpausing then fast forwarding won't give you 100%. Title: Re: Glowing Sims: Possible? Post by: Syera on 2006 February 11, 17:08:30 I still think somebody should make an object to add/remove various ambient glows of assorted colors! (http://www.springhole.net/smileys/tongue.gif)
