Title: I'm going to admit it: I have no idea how to do this...
Post by: Gwill on 2006 January 10, 20:37:09
I'm still categorizing all my downloaded hair (see this thread (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=2578.0)), and since I can now do it half way on auto pilot the rest of my brain has been fantazising about new sims I want to make.  Most importantly I think it's time by now to do my self sim.
And now we're back on the topic of hair.  I don't have any hair unstylish and messy enough to look anything like me.  I don't do anything to my hair (except wash it maybe twice a week).  It's just blond, short and all over the place.  I considered just setteling for the uni short hair for women, but then I thought of the electrocuted hair!
So!  How do I go about extracting and recolouring the electrocuted maxsis hair?  I can live with the fact that it goes flat when not in everyday clothes.

Did you try CAS in debug mode where it shows all the hidden outfits and hair etc. I think its Shift N to turn it on.

I've done that many times. That only allows me to use the exsisting hair as it is.
I need to extract it to recolour it.

Just a thought - how about getting a sim electrocuted and saving them in that state, exiting and then cloning them in SimPE?  Dunno if they'd appear like that, but it's worth a shot if all else fails.......

I believe the mesh is hidden somewhere inside one of the sims##.packages found at Program Files/EAGames/Sims2/TSData/Res/Sims3D....  However, I have no idea which one it is hidden in or even if it can have different colors assigned to it.

Plus, once you find it you'll have to make a package file for it, I think... But maybe not...  As it's a mesh already in the game, you might just be able to assign the shape data to the recolor file.  Would you like me to see if I can find it?

I believe the file you want is scattered among several package files under the name "AFhairFried" and carries the instance number 0xff5c60d0.

I'm currently looking for the texture file that goes with this mesh to check that it is infact the mesh you are looking for.

Well, Here's what I've found:
there's a set of raw extracted files, and the textures... How to get these working as a hair, I couldn't tell you.  If you want to try please do so. Bugger...  it's too big, well if you want it drop me an email.

Gwill, why make things difficult? Just choose the nearest hair to your style. This is a game, not examine...:).

Have you seen this hair at sims2sisters? (http://sims2sisters.sme.sk/index.php?sel=download&Cat1=Hair&page=11) (2nd style down) I use the brown version for my hair ;D

That is exactly like the University short messy hair, is it not?  I can see no difference in the mesh, Emma. Wait... the sides are a bit longer, aren't they?

Although, they have some really cute hair there... so Thanks for the link! :D

Yeah... that link is going to get me into all sorts of trouble... there's an even longer version of that style there too... Oh, well.  I'm a download addict.

Haha! Yes, the mesh is longer, and messier. Exactly like my hair! ;D

Wow thanx for the link, the hairs look awesome.

Gwill if you'd still like the electrocuted hair you can do a search at MTS2, someone extracted it there and there ar also a few recolours for download already.

I've searched MTS, and didn't find anything.  And I'm good at searching.  I might just be having a bad week.

For the life of me I can't remember or find the site where they all the extracted maxsis hairs and clothes were available.  It didn't have the electrocuted hair last time I checked, but I thought it might help me on my way.
I've seen people recolour hidden meshes before, so for me it's just about having something to start with.

I'm attatching a sim with the electrocuted hair.  Maybe someone with more SimPe experience than me can make some sense of it.

By the way, I'm prefectly computer proficient, I just haven't been doing this for long.

I found the extracted hairs:
Morague at variousimmers (http://www.variousimmers.net/vsimforum/forumdisplay.php?f=123).

Right Gwill can't seem to find it there either.

I'm pretty sure I saw a picture of a sim with a purple version of that hair there do when I was looking for a backward's cap.

Well I'm sure someon will succeed in unlockign it for you.

Greets,
virgali

Edit: I see you found them already... ;D Well can't wait to see the final product once you edit it to your liking... ;D

I only found the site with unlocked hairs.  It still doesn't have the electrocuted hair.
I'll do some more searching though.  I refuse to believe that no one finds this hair as fascinating as I do.

There is a thread at MTS2 that talks about how to unlock stuff and use it
http://www2.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=29462

Also when I am looking for something I go the simple route and use the search function with windows. (start-search-a word or phrase in file) Since someone here has already suggested that the name of the file in the package contains the word "fried" I would use that as a search term. It should be able to bring back the onjects package file that it is in. The rest is simple detective work to find the right package in Simpe to extract and work with. I am at work at the moment, if I were home I would be able to help you more.

Okay, the hair I found was AFhairfried.  This hair is AFhairshocked_fried.  It's actually a different mesh.

Here's where the parts for that are going to be hidden:

Resouce Node is in sims06.package

Shape is in sims05.package

Geometric Node is in sims04.package

Geometric Data container is in sims03.package

Material Definition is in sims02.package

the Lifo files are in the higher packages, with a UF or a UU in front of them (ie UUhairshocked_fried)

The undead alien sim you packed up at least listed the name of the proper referenced file for the hair, but it dosen't show in bodyhop (so there's no easy way to make a recolor package that way).  I really hate the way maxis packed up the game files...

That helps.  I'll explore the file a bit in the morning (or whatever time it might be when I wake up).

What about this hair:   http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=2205 It's pretty similar.  And I know there were recolor dones for this mesh.  Oh and this is the female version I think  http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=3510.

Oh and this one too : http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=2206

My hair is not spikey, it's messy.
The electrocuted hair bounces when the sim moves their head.  I'm not too keen on bulletproof hair.
