Title: May I share your hacks with my mother in law
Post by: Mizz Rose Bud on 2006 January 07, 14:55:14
My mother in law have got The Sims 2, but she does not have an internet connection.

I believe that it is okay to download and burn Maxis´ original fixes to a CD for her ... BUT ! ... is it also okay to download the critical fixes from MATY and burn them to a CD to give to her ???

And if it´s okay ... what will she need ... I hardly remember anymore after having playing both Uni and NL. She´ll only need fixes, not hacks that improve or moderate the game ... she liked to play The Sims 1 100% vanilla, so I guess that she´ll prefer to play The Sims 2 vanilla too ...

You have to ask the El Presidente, although I don't see any "criminal" act in doing that. Better be on the safe side...:).

I believe it's covered under the fair use section of copyright law for you to do so. If for some reason Pescado decided he didn't like it, you'd still be within your legal rights to share the files.

(Insert "I am not a lawyer" disclaimer here)

Why would that possibly matter.  If she had an internet connection, she'd be downloading them herself.  What's the difference if you give it to her.

I would only see problems with posting the hacks and trying to pass them off as your own and/or trying to make money off them.

If you're worried, invite M.i.L over and let her download them and burn them to a cd herself - that must be ok!  So really, where's the difference?  People download stuff for themselves at work - not their own PC - but it seems to be ok (well, if they do it in their lunch-hour at least!)

Exactly my thoughts ... it would be such a shame to be banned from this special forum  ;)

thanks all for your replies ...  ;D

What about my other question ... what´s the must have for The Sims 2 game (with out EP´s)

Thanks ... but there is only 2 fixes for TS2  ??? ... as I recall there were more than 2, but I could be wrong ... my problem is that I can´t remember which bugs that belong to TS2 and which to Uni ... and I just know that she´ll be in the phone when the problems start to show up ... *LOL*

Sorry for being a pain ... really

I don't think the fixes for the base game only are supported. They may still be at Mod the Sims 2, however.

This sounds like a good way to waste a perfectly good CD, given how often things get updated. But hey, it's not my CD.

The hacks are small enough to be transferred by a floppy disk. Saves all the hassle of burning a CD, checking if it burned correctly and wasting it in the process.

I take that as a yes ... thanks :)
Guess I´ll just use a R-W CD ... it´s so long time since I´ve used a floppy disk ... I had almost forgotten all about them ... oh well

And I´ll check at MTS2

Thank you very much :)

This is why you use CD-RW's. They still burn fast (with a decent burner, mind you) and you can just erase and re-write if you need to give her updates. Good choice, good choice.  ;)

Or you could convince her to get internet access.
