Title: Create a family
Post by: flowerchile on 2005 December 28, 10:52:39
Long time but yes I'm back with another burning question.  A friends has the Sims 2 but when the create a family screen pops up, the game dies in the a__.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Hmm. Nope. Sounds like a problem with custom somethings, maybe.

No, she hasn't any customs and hasn't even run the game yet!

Maybe she should try to reinstall from scratch.   And make sure she defrags her computer first, and disables her anti-virus and firewall.

How "close" is your friend to the minimum system requirements? Just barely over?

I also second the defrag idea. I am way over the system minimums but notice a definite improvement after I've defragged my drive.
Uninstall the game. Delete all unneccesary games, files, crap from the hard drive. Defrag. Reinstall.

If necessary, a complete system restore can also work wonders on an aging hard-drive, but it's surprising how many people rarely bother to defrag.  The game definitely prefers to run on a non-fragmented drive.

I had this exact problem, and it turned out I needed a better graphics thingy-ma-bob.  I got NVIDIA and it fixed the problem.

Well, try defrag etc. first, that way is free!

I didn't pay for anything...it was a download of some type...XP detected my problem for me.  :)

Well, my NVidia card cost me £70, and that was cost price!

I'm guessing that my computer already had the card (because I never bought anything) and I needed to update the version or something...I'm dumb...don't ask me.  :-\

'Thanks everybody, I'll pass these ideas on, might defrag mine while I'm at it, see if it runs any better.
