Title: Lot Challenge, April 2013, TINY lots.
Post by: HomeschooledByTards on 2013 April 05, 13:33:17
Rules:

Lot sizes: 10x10, 15x10, or 20x15
Length of challenge: Deadline is 12:01 am, May 1, 2013 in Kofistan time zone. Voting for the best house will take place for a week.
Winner: Will get this shiny(ish) graphic to put in their sig, and gets to start the next challenge.

Challenge: Build a starter house capable of housing three sims. Keep the unfurnished price below §16,500, but imaginary bonus points will be given to those who keep the furnished price under that.

Items that must be included: The B.R.A.S.S. Double Bed, the Kinder Kontainer OR the Rock-a-Baby Crib, a toilet, a sink, a shower OR tub, a stove, a fridge, and a counter.

No custom content. Store stuff is OK to use.

Use one of these color schemes.

You may choose up to one more color for wood(s), but otherwise use one color scheme for the interior. Exterior can be any color(s).

NAME YOUR LOTS by using the "edit details" button. I will refer to them by name in the poll and any lots without an in-game street name will be disqualified. If you need a street name generator, this (http://www.jimwegryn.com/Names/StreetNameGenerator.htm) is the one I've been using.

For example, if I submit a lot named 3760 S Winchester Lane, it will be described in the poll as "jesslla | 3760 S Winchester Lane", this allows me to create multiple houses for the challenge and still be clear which one you're voting for.

This contest is open to anyone, even 'dome residents.

This sounds like fun! I have one question though: Is wanding permitted?

Title: Re: Lot Challenge, April 2013, TINY lots.
Post by: HomeschooledByTards on 2013 April 10, 13:10:04
Submit the lots here in this thread. Yes, you need pictures. They should be fairly large, you should have at least one shot per floor, plus a shot of the whole front of the house. Overhead shots are probably the easiest ones to take, given the size of the lots, but that's up to you. No limit on number of pictures.

Wanding is permitted! Thanks for that question, as I forgot to include that in the rules.

Yes, yes, double posting, blah, blah, blah. I'm a rebel.

A tiny house is easier to clean. This is a 10x10 lot with a car and room for three sims. I have playtested the house and I think I've fixed any/all routing issues that cropped up during testing.

Furnished: §15,392

Here, a tiny lot.  Figured a tiny lot wouldn't make me want to stab my eyes out the way trying to make large lots in Sims does.

It is $15,678 furnished, post wanding.  10x10, 2br, 1ba, should fit three sims (maybe four if you want to convert the attic), and has been playtested for a little bit.  Hopefully the stairs don't need rotating again.

No store content, but it does have a couple deco objects from Master Suite Stuff.

This contest is open to anyone, even 'dome residents.

On behalf of the two Dome residents, I must ask, is this a reprieve from their doming, or do we go look in the Dome for their entries?  Also, what about the Canned?

All entries to be posted in this thread. Includes the unwashed and the unspeakable.

Canned users can email me at moreawesomethan @ linuxbit.net with their pictures and lot and I'll host their file and post it here for them. Same for the Domed users if they wish.

I'm getting Access Denied at http://i.imgur.com. I can see Skadi's and Turd's images when I use the whole URL in a new tab (e.g. http://i.imgur.com/XySA44o.jpg) but I can't see the images in the posts. I've tried adding http://i.imgur.com to my NoScript whitelist and the Allow button is greyed out. Anyone have any ideas?

ReRybka - I really liked your lot, I like the colour scheme on the single bedroom especially.

1) How closely do we have to stick to the color palettes provided?

2) Can we make multiple entries?

No, that's not it, I still can't see any of your images in either post. I have no other blockers I don't think, checking now. Might be an ad block issue.

ETA: Yep, ad block. Somehow i.imagur is registered as an ad site. I have disabled for MATY. Very nice lots, Skadi. I like SJ's lot and Jesslla's Victorian house, but boy oh boy, I just LOVE ReRybka's house. I know a wee bit about sims building and I can see real expertise here. Oh, the grey/blue and white house is really cool too.

Jesslla I hope the poll will allow us to choose more than one house to vote for?

BTW I am finding the colour scheme really restricting. One of the things I like about building is the exploration of colour as the scheme evolves through the process.

I figure you'll be able to choose up to three houses in the poll.

The color scheme thing has turned out to be a lot more annoying than I thought it would be. But I don't want to get rid of it halfway through the challenge, so how about this. Pick a color scheme (and one extra color) and use any of the shades on the slider part of the color wheel (like when you choose a skin tone). This way you have a theme of colors, but aren't stuck using specific shades.

Nah, I think you're right, leave it as is in its entirety. Saying to choose a range of colours will only be unfair to those who designed within the guidelines. I do have a house half-finished, I'm sure I can cope, and it's supposed to be a challenge anyway.

Thank you everyone for your compliments! Building and designing are my favorite things about the Sims. While the color scheme rule is restricting, I'm actually really enjoying the challenge of it, because it forces me to be more experimental with how I decorate (like using patterns on things that are usually wood like the desk, or not using the default patterns on objects). I like the money limit, too, because it's harder to make the cheap stuff look nice.

There are a lot of really nice designs on the thread so far. I love seeing what people come up with because it gives me ideas I hadn't thought of before. Can't wait to see what else is submitted!

I've got one more house I'm working on, but that's going to have to be it for me. I MUST study for exams if I expect to complete this law school venture.  :D

Nah, I think you're right, leave it as is in its entirety. Saying to choose a range of colours will only be unfair to those who designed within the guidelines. I do have a house half-finished, I'm sure I can cope, and it's supposed to be a challenge anyway.

I would have to agree. It's unfair to relax a restriction partway into the challenge.

And that's coming from someone who expects to be heavily dinged on that restriction for my first entry.  Architecturally, my Breeder Shack stays true to the "Cozy Comfortable" color scheme. Everything is done in white, light grey, and light wood tones, except for a splash of color in the master bedroom.  However, I didn't stick to the color scheme on furnishings, throwing together a mismatched ramshackle look instead. Hey, it's a cheap-ass oversized shack.

I'm working on a second entry now, and I promise to pay more attention to the color scheme this time.

I'm impressed. There are lots of really good ideas here to steal be inspired by and use in future projects. But for now, here's my second entry: 10 Navy Lane. It's a simple, two bedroom house on a 10x10 lot, with room for a family of four. Wanded and slightly worn, it fetches a price of 16,482 furnished or 12,812 unfurnished.

My thoughts exactly! I've been snatching up most of the entries.

I don't usually participate in these sorts of things, but I did actually put together an entry. However, 2 different entries look a lot like what I came up with independently... So now it would look like I ripped them off.  :-\ Back to the drawing board, I guess!

Let's face it, there are a limited number of options for small houses in the sims. So what if some are similar? Your own use of accessories and colour etc will still make an individual house.

It doesn't matter if they are similarly themed, the more the merrier! At least then we could have a few of the same feel for sub-sections within a neighbourhood.
Though this is making me want to crack out the world builder again.

Post it! Hell, I ripped someone off with my victorian house. There's only so much you can do in a small lot, so eventually similar ideas show up.

Well, I think maybe I'm disqualified anyway since my furnished price is so high (no imaginary bonus points for me), but here we go:

10x10 flat lot
Furnished: $22,376
Unfurnished: $11,341
(Original inspiration from www.loftcube.net)

I used the "Fresh, Modern Living Space" palette of peacock blue/white/grey with the same pops of color that were in the reference photo (black, green, & magenta/red). I have all EPs & SPs except the Katy Perry one. I did play test a little, so there shouldn't be any major routing issues.

Grandma Murphy's Piece of Quiet

This is a three bedroomed house on a 20x15 lot. There is one car parking space beside it. Furnished it is §19,779, unfurnished §15,641.

I used the fresh modern living space theme with the blue and two greys. Ahem, when I say 'used' I mean that if you're prepared to play 'Where's Wally' ('Waldo' for Americans), you will indeed find all three colours in each room, some more than once. See, when Grandma moved in she couldn't bear to rip out all the lovely wood panelling just for a competition on a forum, so I had to be inventive with wallpaper. My accent colour is orange which will be rather obvious.

I made a family to playtest and haven't found any difficulties, except maybe the dining chair on the far end, a sim only used it once and had the plate on her lap instead of on the table. Oddly enough the family I made bought the house and had about §1700 left, I don't know if famblies get more than §20K now?

So the story goes that Grandma finally found her 'piece of quiet' out in the suburbs, she was happy to retire and planned to spend her days trying new recipes and meeting the neighbours. Life was idyllic until the knock on her door one stormy night, Grandma's daughter Priscilla and Priscilla's four children were shivering on the porch with nowhere else to go. What else could a poor grandmother do but invite them all in to stay? Six people, one upstairs bathroom, will Grandma retain her sanity?

You will need to find a fileshare site, like Dropbox or Mediafire or Mega. If you don't have an account with one, you will have to make an account (don't use your real name) and then upload your house to that site. Then you can get a link to share your download. Put that link in your post.

I hope I do not bother anyone if I add another house in the contest.
And I hope I'm not upset anyone if I have anither 2 ready.... There will be a total of 4. 2 lot size with 15x20 and 20x15, one 15x10 and one with 10 x 10 ... complete set.
Now about this lot. It's called 990 Doraly Lane.
Lot size Price 15x20
Price furnished 16408
Price unfurnished 13627
The House has facilities for a minimum decent living.  As soon as the simmmy begin to earn money, will be able to change the inside.
I put the emphasis on the outside.
I repeat, I use a program for translation, but it's not perfect, so if the terms are not in order, I apologize.

My second entry:

16 Alameda Walk
Furnished: §16,346
Unfurnished: §13,907

I went for a Mediterranean look, but sadly the colour themes didn't work too well. So I've used the 'Cozy, Comfortable Living Room' as a base and included the colours from the 'Crisp Coral Living Room' to accent it. I also overloaded it with dark wood.

Seeing as it is accepted content from EA Store, I decided to use the garden set. It is an utopia.

I don't know if the night is a good counselor.
I thought the new EP will appear; Island Paradise and Robinson Crusoe. A cavern furnished with pieces from limited edition would be something special.
For now, I just put the required objects.
What about? A grotto like starter house?

Lot name: 101 Cages Lane
Lot size 15x10
Price furnished 15900
Price unfurnished 8998

I did not find the tile floor to match with the cavern, so the modlet wil be with unfinished room ... but no one die from that.

Note: I haven't built so many lots to have more opportunities of winning a contest. I've done because I like to build. I am 55 years old ... it's weird for someone my age to play the sims3? My regret is that I don't speak English ... so I can't understand everything that people write.
Now sure I'll stop ... otherwise I'll put monopoly on contest... I still have not finished ideas. :D

Watching V for Vendetta over the weekend, I decided to try an underground lot with an unassuming topside - Like V's Shadow Gallery. (Originally I wanted to make my own version of his home, but it was turning out WAY too expensive and didn't match any of the color schemes, so I gave that up.)

So here's another bunker/bomb shelter type lot for your paranoid sim families. I used a flattened 15x10 lot and the "Cozy Comfortable" color scheme. There is room around the outside of the shack (but inside the fence) to have a few crops.

Haha, that had crossed my mind. I imagine the computer corner would need to be a lot more impressive, though.

Now back to the "DOWNLOAD ALL THE LOTS" thing I have going on here.

I am a looser... because only now I understood that all the rooms must have the same scheme color on walls. (I asked someone of my friends to translate for me the rules)... Can I modify my posts? I will redo all the lots in order to be able to fit me fine. But no one couldn't tell me what is B.R.A.S.S.  :o

The B.R.A.S.S. bed is the metal bed frame bed, right near the beginning in the catalog listing. It costs around $400 -$450. Have a look at my lot pictures. I hope that helps!

phoenixc, you can modify your posts, but only if you want to do so. Non-native English speakers get to break the rules sometimes due to not understanding fully. If you submit new houses though, do follow the color scheme.

Thanks for understanding me, but the rules are the rules for everyone... if not, it's a contest for some and for some other no... so I will change the colors for each interior and I will change on my post only the interiors pictures and of course the lot for downloads.
I hope the others contestants will not contest my request... because if someone speak another language than English (I speak better Italian and French), could understand better about I'm talking.

Use one of these color schemes.

You may choose up to one more color for wood(s), but otherwise use one color scheme for the interior. Exterior can be any color(s).

Hi, I think I may have a go at this challenge. I need to clarify something (haven't red through the whole thread, so I apologize if this has been covered anywhere). I understand the colour scheme thing but what about paintings, clutter, lamps, you know small accessories - do they have to be in the colour scheme also or are those excluded? And the extra colour for wood; does that have to be the same colour wood throughout or can I use a different colour wood from room to room? I don't know if I over-analyse this, but I have never done a challenge like this, so I don't know how strict this all is. LOL

Title: Re: Lot Challenge, April 2013, TINY lots.
Post by: HomeschooledByTards on 2013 April 23, 20:59:42
Painting, clutter, etc, are a somewhat special case, often they have only one channel to change or no way to change them at all, so just do the best you can.

One color wood to be used throughout the whole house. Basically, you end up having four colors to decorate with. I went pretty strict on my houses, even patterns used only the color scheme I chose. I'd like you to stick as close to your chosen scheme as possible, even though it does lend itself toward a bit of a boring house (color wise).

Post by: witch on 2013 April 23, 21:28:26
My house does not really conform to the colour scheme at all, or only by a big stretch of the imagination, I don't mind if it gets left out of the voting. I don't expect speshul rights. It was fun to build and I now have a huge number of new starters from this thread. I am content.  8)

Post by: virgali on 2013 April 23, 23:58:53
I'm glad I'm not the only one who had trouble sticking with the color scheme. I went with stone instead of wood though and used one extra color which was from an accessory in the picture of my chosen color scheme. I CASted pretty much everything. Walls, floors, doors, windows, appliances, furniture, lamps, paintings, rugs, curtains and the clutter items. The house ended up looking horrible because of the weird layout I used. Maybe I'll try again with another color scheme.

Nothing says "tight-knit community" like close neighbors, and you'll certainly have that with 2015 Trailer Park!  Yes, we parked TWO mobile homes on a 20x15 lot!  With a shared yard and garden between them, you'll be BFFs with your neighbors in no time.
Each of the two mobile home can sleep up to 4 sims plus 1 infant/toddler.  Our special wanded sale price for the set, as shown, is $19,598.  Unfurnished, the price drops to $15,547.

Address - 2015 Trailer Park

Yep, I built 2 houses on 1 tiny lot.

Since it's 2 houses, I used a different color scheme for each. For the first trailer I used 'Fresh Modern', while still looking like a trailer.

The scheme for the second trailer is 'Crisp Coral'.

I deviated a little from the color scheme for the main bedroom though. How could I not include some 'Trailer Trash Tacky'? :P

Disclaimer
Finally, I managed to finish a lot. The first one is my official entry, the second one is supposed to be my first attempt at creating a tiny lot but I gave up. Neither of them are any good at all but since I wasted my time on them I decided to share. This is my personal take on the "assignment". I tried to use the colors in many varieties as to not make things too bland and boring.

Official entry
[99 Purple Water Rd.] built on a 20x15 lot and created with the "Elegant, Urban Purple Living Room" color scheme.
Furnished: §20,186
Unfurnished: §14,038
I CASTed everything that's CASTable according to the color scheme. Instead of wood I chose a color that was used as an accent in the picture of the color scheme.

Discarded lot
[28 Garden View Lane] built on a 20x15 lot and created with the "Bright, Bold Living Room" color scheme.
Furnished: §21,830
Unfurnished: §14,371
This one isn't as "meticulous" as my official entry. Something went haywire with the color scheme and I wasn't in the mood to fix it. The fridge, phone and windows for example aren't entirely CASTed in the color scheme and some of the patterns I used aren't properly CASTed according to the colors either. Instead of wood I chose a color that was used as an accent in the picture of the living room.

Cyberdodo, I love trailer lots for my sims!

virgali, not any good MY ASS. Those are both utterly adorable.

Skadi, my wife builds excellent lots as always. I like that there is a money tree in the garden and a chess table.

Whew! I wasn't sure they'd be worthy of being posted here. Building and decorating is really not my forte. Thank you Skadi, I love the purple bricks and the dark wood combo of your lot in particular. All the entries here are amazing. I used to do a lot more building in TS2 than I do now in TS3 for some unknown reason. This really inspired me to do some more building.

Street Address: 1 Mimm Place
Lot Size: 10x10
Furnished Price: §23,704
Unfurnished Price: §14,605
Colour Scheme: Crisp Coral Living Room
Raison D'ętre: I don't like houses that are incomplete. This one has laundry facilities and alarms which has definately affected the pricing of it furnished. You'll also note that I've included wanded price and unwanded price pictures. It is the unwanded house that I will upload as I don't think you can honestly offer a 'new' house creation with a price constraint and expect to be judged on the wanded price.

Raison D'ętre: I've only posted the unwanded price picture on this one, and the upload will be the full price version again. To my way of thinking I've cheated on this house. I had to leave the garage door out to get below the §16,500 unfurnished price (which I justify to myself with the fact that it does not alter the functionality of the house). Which has got me worrying about my likelihood of having a house valid for submission for the 20x15 'category'. I also had to leave the basement external wall unpainted. Others may quibble on the fact that I've left the red in the carpets when I could have removed that channel. I claim it helps bring together a couple of places where red could not be removed from the object in question. Feh, I'll take my lumps if they're due.

This is my final submission, because I'm flat out of ideas.

Address - 1010 Wizard Tower

As the address may suggest, this is a starter tower for a wizard, on a 10x10 lot.  It follows the 'Cozy Comfortable' color scheme, though I'm not sure either 'Cozy' or 'Comfortable' really apply...

The ground floor consists of an eat-in kitchen.

There isn't much here for entertaining visitors, but that shouldn't be an issue.

"You dare enter the tower of the Great and Powerful Fawlty?!  MOAR TOAD!"

Ehem. Moving on. The kitchen still has an old cooking hearth, but it's not needed, thanks to the upgrade to a wood stove.

Er, maybe someone should explain the concept of a wood stove to Fawlty? Or keep a fire extinguisher handy?

On the second floor is the Apprentices' quarters, complete with the modern marvel of indoor plumbing.  Note, Fawlty does not believe in a minimum age for apprenticeship.

Studies show that regularly sanding and polishing the loo can reduce splinters by as much as 20%.

The third floor is the private chambers for the wizard and his familiar.  This floor also features indoor plumbing.

The top floor is the wizard's study, where the Great and Powerful Fawlty studies old tomes and practices alchemy.  Useful, as Fawlty isn't really so Great. Or Powerful, for that matter.

With a quick cast of the wand here (pun intended) the furnished price is $19,936. Unfurnished is $15,973.

Ok, my turn. :) With so many fantastic houses already shown here, I am getting quite intimidated. LOL It is only the 3rd time I build a house from scratch, so I am actually quite pleased with the outcome, although it was very challenging to say the least. Ofcourse, CASt-ing all the objects and building materials according to the colour scheme took ages. Half way through, my imagination failed me (can't you tell from the bunk bedroom?) I was acutely sick of purple at that point and that kind of put a plug in for me. (Where is the barfing smiley when you need it?!) Well, I got over it, sort of ;) and here is the result. Download link to package file at the bottom (goes into your library folder).

Built on a 20x15 lot in Riverview. This house is for up to 5 Sims:pepsihamster | Spring Wood 39. Wanded. Unfurnished price: 13.394  Furnished price: 21.062
Appraisal: "A quaint little home for those who value quality. Cheap doesn't have to equal lesser and this house could easily be the only home you will ever want, with its exquisite charm. A French/Italian inspired house that would also fit into and serve as a fantastic holiday residence in Champs Les Sims. A slight touch-up on the somewhat faded wooden exterior (has not been attended to for the past few years) will restore things to its original beauty. Apart from the walls that is. Either think of it as part of the charm, or live with it."

I used the Elegant, Urban Purple colour scheme.
I hope I have posted the pictures in the correct way.?

Second Entry

456 Boxcroft Street
Size: 10x10
Price: $16,601 furnished, 12,802 unfurnished
Color Scheme: ??? (I was trying for "Elegant, Urban purple living room" but I thought the purple looked more like a steel blue/dark grey. Whoops.)

Modular house made out of a crate, with enclosed sunroom upstairs set up as a dining room. Sleep chambers downstairs, and modular stairs because spirals are a routing pain.
I'm bad at decorating and don't use any store stuff, and I got bored with CASting halfway through and went nuts with patterns. Sorry.

What I did was save the photo with the color schemes in your first post, open it in paint, click on colors in the picture with the "color picker," and then go to the properties to write down the RGB numbers. Some of the photos have up to 8 colors in them, but I tried to use the three or four MAIN colors for most of the stuff, and secondary colors for accents and what not.

ETA: I just scrolled through this whole thread again, and found no fewer than ten building, design, and/or layout ideas I'd never thought to try before. So BAA to all of you; I'm seriously impressed with everyone's creations.

What happens if you install a lot built with several EPs that you don't have? I know that items will be missing but will the lot be broken in some way, so that it brakes the game or family living in the lot?

I changed the scheme colors for my houses, so I modified only the interior's pictures.
I changed the link for download.

House changed:
240 Victoria street
55 Catalina street
180 Aurora street
990 Doraly Lane.

I hope this time it matches with the rules of contest.

It will work fine, just the items get replaced with base game items. Probably you will need to "wandhere", though.

The only way I can think of that a lot could be broken by missing stuff is if you don't have spiral staircases in your game.  Missing stairs makes it hard to go to other floors in the house.  Otherwise, there shouldn't be a problem.

Custom worlds, however, are a different matter.  But that's not part of this Lot Challenge.

I didn't found this word -"wanding"- anywhere... I tried almost everything to try understanding what means... what is this? (my English don't help me). If someone has a synonym in french or italian... or a simplified explanation, please help me.

Your English is far better than my french or italian.

"Wanding" means using the command "wandhere", added to the list of commands by Awsomemod.  You type this after pressing Ctrl-Shift-C, and it instantly ages everything on the lot to their lowest depreciated value.  The reason Pescado made the command "wandhere" dates back to how he implemented this function in The Sims 2, where he used an actual wand object.

You also had to wave it.

Twallan also has a depreciation mod I think. It just makes it easier to get sims started. Think of it as filling a house with secondhand furniture.

Thanks. Now I understood why I saw houses furnished and decorated with so many objects.
I don't know if it's fair for contest. We can't use CC but we can use cheats... with cheats, a starter house it's not a really starter house and who use this cheats has an advantage.

Anyway, the houses posted here, are so beautifully and some of them so originally.

Considering it is only the unfurnished price that needs to be below $16500, I don't think people are being too hampered. The wanding really only makes a difference to furnishings, and since there is no limit to the furnished price [imaginary points only] it is still fair for all.
Feel free to redo a house with more furnishings if you like.  :)

Hmm, I think the only "problem" with the color scheme is that they were made up of too few colors - This (http://design-seeds.com/) site has some really great palettes and there's an average of 6 colors per, so it wouldn't be nearly as restricting. You could have rooms with completely different combinations and escape some of the sameness. Just an idea for the next challenge, if the winner decides to use color schemes again. :)

I did another one. I thought, if it's small, it won't take long - ha,ha. This little house is for your poor Sims. CASt in the warm and cozy colour scheme; with deliberate attention to the worn-out design of the furniture and the house (and the cramped feel) which you might find in such a place, to create the right atmosphere for game-play.  ;) Has a tiny garden patch.

If you hover over the swatches on the right, it gives you the hex #. Another color scheme site is kuler.  You can make your own color schemes and there are a metric fuck-ton of community made schemes available. Pick a scheme and then click on the little slider button and you have your hex numbers.

Great colour scheme sites! I also feel that the restriction is mostly because of too few colours and that all wood had to be in a fixed colour, too. If there were more colours in a scheme and if one could therefore use different colours in different rooms, while they still belong to the same colour scheme, I think that would work really well. You would get a cohesive look, but not feel so restricted as it probably felt here. I like the idea of a colour scheme as such - if it's broad enough, I personally feel it makes decorating easier. So, don't feel bad about it jesslla. The idea was good and now we have some experience on what will make it work better.

Post by: virgali on 2013 April 27, 22:42:48
Yeah, the color scheme is a tad too restrictive but therein lies the challenge. These are tiny lots after all so in this case it's not that much of a problem. One has to find ways to use the colors along with patterns and such to keep things exciting and not so repetitive. For example you can decide for color 1 to dominate in the bedroom and use the other two as accents. Then let color 2 dominate the kitchen and then use the other two as accents. Using different patterns can also help spice up things a bit even though they're CASTed in the same colors.

Even though the color restriction had me pulling my hair at times, it was fun to think about creative ways to use them on the lot in a way that would still give each room its own character. It was also much easier to decorate the lot imho. For bigger lots we will need color palettes with more variety though.

This challenge has turned out to be highly addictive, so I just couldn't resist making a third entry for it. Here comes 63 Lilac Street, a two bedroom house on a 10x15 lot, decorated in the Elegant, Urban Purple colour scheme. The price is 16,494 furnished or 13,400 unfurnished. It's wanded, and seeing how it was clearly stated from the beginning that wanding is permitted, I don't quite understand how that could be regarded as cheating. This seems to be a matter of debate, though. Anyway, here's the house:

Okay, poll finally added. You can choose up to four houses.

A HUGE THANK YOU to all who participated. 42 houses were entered in this silly little challenge, and I love each one of them.

Reminder, the person with the most votes at the end of the poll gets to start next months challenge. Start thinking now about what you'll challenge us to do. Doesn't have to be building, you could give us some outfits or furniture to recolor in CASt, or a prebuilt house to redecorate, or create a sim according to your specs, basically anything goes.

It does that for me, too. The house was probably not built on a flat section.

I've voted my votes. I didn't vote for any houses with living underground, or those that made sims live in glass boxes, as I personally prefer realism in my game. It was still a hard choice as there are so many yummy lots.

While I'm in a complaining mood; pepsihamster | On The Rise 1 - the sink in the bathroom stops the shower from being usable and the bed is only accessable from one side due to the chest of drawers. Even when you remove the chest of drawers the pile of cases/books/? at the base of the bed prevents access to that side.

Sadly while flat-hunting I am finding that living underground is all too realistic. But I DON'T LIKE IT, so I also voted only for above-ground houses. I also went for 'traditional' layouts, but ones with a nice twist to make it more interesting than a box (e.g. bay window adding new zone to room, half walls, etc.) Still found it extremely hard to pick only four - well done everyone on such innovative and interesting ideas!

Oops, sorry about that. I forgot to adjust the position of those 2 items after placing them. I was in a bit of a hurry when building; not a good thing - makes note for the future. To those who have downloaded the lot: If you want to keep the house you have, you can easily correct this by pressing the ALT button and adjusting the position of the items, further up against the walls like in this pic.

Now Sims can use the bed and dresser as they are supposed to. You can delete the sink in the bathroom and place things like in the next picture. That solves the issue with the shower not being usable.

If you are ok with not having a sink, just do as above and you are good to go. (Incidentally, I almost never have a sink in my poor Sims' houses.) If you want a sink elsewhere, I have made another version of this lot for you to download. It's the same as the one you have, I have only adjusted the placement of the dining table/chairs and the sofa slightly in this new version, to make room for that sink in the kitchen. Tested all items can be used!
Here is the download link for the adjusted version (file goes into your library folder) http://www.mediafire.com/?cy5ch1cwkjs3g91

This will make the lot comply to the challenge rules. But, either way this will disqualify this entry into the challenge, as one can't make any changes after the deadline. I'm ok with that, of course. It's still a good "poor-mans-house" for download.

Maybe we should have had 2 rounds of votes? Maybe a good idea for next time? Let people vote on everything they really like and only let the most popular move to the second round. Then people can choose from a more narrowed list. It was very, very hard to choose only 4. There were really a lot of amazing creations posted here.

@Cyberdodo: meh, I never vote for myself in these things. If enough people like it, they'll vote for it. I rather use my votes to acknowledge someone else's talent and creativity. *Shifty eyes* I hope Jezzer isn't around to spork me.

First things first: a big BAAA to all my nine supporters for voting me the winner. It may not be the Pritzker but it comes with a shiny sig thing reward, so nearly as good. BAAA!

With that part over, let's move on to the next challenge. I hope you like foundations, because that's what we're having this month. Details will be entered into over in the new challenge thread, to be up as soon as I overcome my perennial lurker fear of starting such things. I will tell you though that I've opted for no set colour schemes, not so much out of fear of the kind of witchcraft that makes posts disappear (there's one thing perennial lurkers don't fear) as because I felt the foundation layout would be challenging enough in itself.

I do not have a shiny sig thing reward to offer, but I'm hoping jesslla will help me out there. Any chance of that?
