Title: Particular hairstyle shows up correctly in CAS, but won't show up ingame
Post by: vanguard on 2012 November 25, 23:43:35
So I am trying to install this hairstyle on my sim: http://ageiha.livejournal.com/50821.html

Which appears fine in the CAS, but ingame, a different hairstyle shows up with a bald spot on the top:

I have found the original skysims sims3package file (http://sunsetsims.mustbedestroyed.org/index.php/2012/06/28/skysims-hair-029-request/#.ULKvkoc0V8E) and the same problem still occurs, along with all other retextures I've used. This is the only hairstyle that has given me a problem. Otherwise game works fine. I have latest patch, late night, and supernatural installed. I am using latest version of AM and NRAAS supercomputer as mods. Thank you for all your help.

Obviously your computer is trying to protect your game from that hairdon't.

Any idea why or how it's doing this? I am actually very curious it's only that hairstyle that has that problem. My game doesn't do this for plenty of other custom hairdon'ts that I have installed. I wonder if it's an issue with the mesh or the bone assignments, but unfortunately I lack the knowledge so I'm only speculating here.

This hair probably only has a LOD0, which is the very high quality mesh. What you're seeing is most likely the cloned hairs high or medium mesh. By looking at your screen shot your settings are either really low or your PC sucks. In theory of course.

Hmmm....interesting theory. I'll up the graphics to test out your theory, thanks!

EDIT: Setting graphics to max fixes the issue somewhat; the correct hair shows up on the same, but the portrait hairstyle still has the original incorrect with the bald spot.

Did you neglect to clear your caches, by chance?

Sometimes you have to wait for the portrait to update.

Oops...doing that now.

Sometimes you have to wait for the portrait to update.

Thanks for all your help!

By the way, I posted the same question to modthesims, and this was their response:

All hairs have four different meshes. The first mesh, LOD0, is used in CAS, and in-game if you're zoomed right in and have a very good graphics card. The other three meshes are used in-game if you zoom out a bit, or if your graphics card isn't great. With that hair, Skysims didn't bother making the three ingame meshes, just the CAS mesh; which is why the random EA hair (the hair Skysims used as a base) shows up in-game. That's taking pride in your work, alright.

So I'm wondering whether or not the bottom, side, and wheel interaction portraits use the other meshes, since they don't update when I max my graphics settings
